So how would one go about building a lawyer in d20m. The cost of highering an attourney is based on their ranks in knowledge(civics), which is class for all the mental classes. I think Profession(lawyer) would handle the running of a practice type stuff. Finally lawyers are listed as white collar under backgrounds. So how would you build a level 1 lawyer in d20 modern on a 28 pointbuy?

Is he a pencil-pusher (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solicitors), a trial specialist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrister), or a little bit of both?

CHA is mostly a dump stat for the first one.

Trial lawyer, and someone dept7 would atleast consider for field work.

I didn't realize that some countries had such a formal distinction betwixt the two. In the US I don't believe that there is any official distinction (though most lawyers are fairly speciallized and most don't appear in court).

For the sake of argument, I was assuming an american attourney, but since the question is about other people's characters, you should make lawyers appropriate to your perceptions. Backstory is a good thing for this since this is not an optimization challenge, just a board activity.

I would say they are a good mix of smart/charismatic heroes. Whichever they end up doing more (pencil pushing/research or court appearance) give them more class levels under the appropriate class. Give your lawyer the Savant and Trick talents from the smart hero class and pretty much all of the talents aside from the leadership tree from the charismatic hero. If you need more levels, fill the build with dedicated hero levels and take all of the talents which aid skills (like skill emphasis and cool under pressure).
