The statblock for the constrictor snake animal companion has grab under special attacks in its base form, but not in its advanced form. Does it keep the grab ability after it advances?

Also, is there anything that explicitly says it or is it just community consensus?

Animal companion advancement is not treated as monster advancement. THink of animal companion hit dice as being almost like its own class (although it's always the same hit die and bab as the creature it's advancing.) The base creature's stat block never changes, except for the listed benefits under the animal companion chart (and any feats granted as a result of those hit dice). One explicitly stated proof of this is the fact that Animal Companion hit dice cannot cause a creature to gain a size category, the way standard monster advancement would. So if it has grab when you tame it, it keeps it.

If you look here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/snake.htm#constrictorSnake), both versions have Improved Grab. Likely it was covered in an errata or later editions or such.
