Welcome, Heralds of the Sun, the Moon, the Stars, and Oblivion. Welcome, to your story, your glory, your legend that shall live on long after the Sun turns black, the Moon red, and the Stars die out one by one. But all legends have a humble beginning, and this is no different. The spark that soon shall become a flame that engulfes all of Creation, that spark begins in Serrat, thirteen days before Calibration. This is your tale, so prepare to tell it.

It is an unusually warm day in the North, even for the month of Descending Fire. The Daystars beats in the skies, shining down on the small slave village of Whitestone. Drugged workers tend the fields and harsh overseers oversee them. Despite the blatant transgressions against the most basic human rights, the place has an air of tranquility about it, everyone knows their place and works at it.
It is this place, where those who shall become the greatest heroes of Creation, are. It is this place, that will never be the same again.

Moonday the 16th of Descending Fire, RY 768

Arrived in Whitestone at last. Parted ways with Grigoriy and his family at the edge of town. Hope they don't get mixed up in the chaos I'm about to create; they're a good lot, if a bit self-centered. Deserve a calm Calibration for once - it's been years, from their stories.

This is it, I guess. Time to see what kind of change a bit of sun can really work. Serrat's proximity to Wallport makes it a good choice of starting points, I think.

Hope I can trust that letter. It isn't like the cleanies to use this sort of trickery, and I'm pretty sure the only people I've let know who I really am are trustworthy. Still risky: could be unknowns looking for a reward for catching me. Ha! Let 'em try. Risk is worth the chance there really are like-minded folk gathering here.

Starting to see red here already. Can't believe this place has been allowed to exist as long as it has. Can't possibly be

Stopped an attempted rape. Broad daylight, if a back alley, do you believe that? He won't be trying that again. Ever. Cathartic.

Getting a bit worried. Letter said they'd be waiting for me here around now, but they're two hours late already. Can't do this alone, and don't like the idea my would-be friends might be compromised 'fore I even get to meet them. Looking less and less like a trap, though - would have sprung it by now. Right?

A cloaked figure leaning casually against a wall in wall little shade is available snaps a small book shut while glancing around at the few people in sight, none of whom seem interested in her presence. Under the cloak hides a young woman with shoulder-length white hair, red-brown eyes, and soft features belying her fierce gaze.

She sighs, fanning her face with the book. The middle of Descending Fire is not a good time to be huddled under a cloak like this, but it's not yet time to work in the open.

Where in Creation is the person who sent her that anonymous letter? Whether friend or foe, potential ally seeking aid or hunter baiting a trap, they should have arrived hours ago.

I'm not leaving this place until I've helped these people, one way or another, she thinks. With the backup I was promised I could do more, but I can't wait for a perfect plan forever.

Wait. Something is happening, over there...

Drugs....Slaves..The guild has to have a hand in this, thought the tanned, muscular, green eyed, dark green haired haltan, and if not..Guess it wouldn't hurt to give them some free will.

Moon packed her things; making sure to keep her tail hidden inside her cloak, Well..lets not make too much of a scene, she thought before starting her walk from the very outer edge of the brush surrounding the village to just inside the village walls.

After perusing the local market stalls; observing the comings and goings of the traders while trying to stay as innocuous as possible for a traveler to be for the guards. She ponders to herself;Docile..these people are far too docile..Would they really go as far as to keep the entire town drugged? And if so..it would have to be a very large shipment to keep this many people under the dosage..

Before long after this line of thought, she walks to an nearby alleyway, to keep the heat from building under her cloak, and closes her eyes to ponder her next move,If I was bringing in a shipment of drugs where would I hide it...

The warmth of the day might make others sweat, but approaching the village is someone who has long since shed such mortal needs like useless bits of clothing. This traveller is rather large in structure compared to normal villagers, towering over most normal humans. Wrapped in long grey cloak and hood, it is rather difficult for any passer-by not to notice the man, expecially due to some rather peculiar details.

First of all, he carries a massive sword over his shoulder like it weight not more than broomstick or fishing rod. The enormous cleaver is not the only peculiar thing about the traveller: the hand holding the blade is encased in gauntlet which bears the colour of night itself, and what little one can see of the rest of the armour under the cloak does not seem much more colourful. Finally, if one is to look carefully at the features showing under the shadow cast by the grey hood, it is quite obvious that the skin of the man is deathly white, lending him almost wraith-like countenance.

This traveller is very definitely any ordinary person, and he is definite not here to admire the scenery or pass the time. He is former Deathknight Spectre, and his business in the place is simple yet morbid: to kill slavers he has been tracking across the North for some time now.

Pathetic, he thinks before being able to stop himself. These people are denied any higher existence than this for whims of few... This is not something I would stand. But perhaps I can at least do something about it.

It is very ironic, really. Not long ago he too was a slave, of sort. Prized, effective slave who commanded great deal of respect amongst the populance of Thorns, but slave nevertheless. Slave to Deathlord and slave to Neverborn. And if he had not broken away when he did, it would still be so.

Snapping out of his thoughts, he focuses his attention to the overseers guarding the slave workers, his grip on the handle of Grand Daiklave tightening slightly. He is not a hero, far from it: he is anathema to life and Creation itself, someone who willingly sold their name and freedom to escape waiting arms of death for a while longer. But he can still do something for those who cannot defend themselves. For even whilst he is reaper of mortals, he can at least choose who he reaps now. And these slavers seem like just fitting targets.

Walking briskly towards the nearest guards, he hefts his weapon from his shoulder, taking solid two-handed grip on it as he approaches the men he is about to slay messily.

"You should show more respect to your fellow men", says the wraith-like voice in Low Realm second before he attacks.

Killing men such as these isn't propably going to improve the situation of slave workers much... But it is a good a start.

[OOC: Commiting 2 Motes to Hide of the Cunning Hunter, which causes Whisper's moonsilver tattoos to no longer be visible by sight or touch. Lasts as long as I commit the motes, which will be until he leaves public eye.]

The tail of the young Lunar's coat swayed lightly, as he took his short, deliberate steps, watching the village function, or the crude imitation that it possessed of 'function'. It didn't take his particularly unskilled eyes a whole lot of trouble to see the sluggish movements of the lowest folk.

He ran his fingers through his greyish-red hair, sweeping it back and out of his eyes, where it stayed, flowing back and falling about his shoulders loosely, exposing his forehead, and when it appeared, his Caste mark proudly. Dropping his hand, he let it rest on the comforting pommel of his daiklaive, running his hand over the soft leather hilt of the curved jitte sword, he felt a comfort from Waning, before resting his forearm against it as he continued to walk, knowing that at least some eyes drew to the brilliant moonsilver swirls, and stong bold tribal lines that coated his bared chest and shoulders. He could have simply just fastened his coat shut, indeed, but it felt uncomfortable, restrictive. It confined his freedom. Something he treasured, and wished that these people could as well.

He sighed, turning his eyes away from a flogging, To see so many, and do so little... But to commit wanton violence would not be appropriate. How many are simply docile slaves, and how many more would stand in their cruel master's place and die willingly for them? Whisper shook his head, and closed his eyes as the leather crack of the flog struck bare skin, and again a second time. It gave him chills, and he grit his teeth, wanting to draw his blades and slice through the offender as if he were a scrap piece of paper.

But he withheld himself, turning and slowly heading towards the man, each step reinforced with the crack of the flog, and when his footsteps stopped, so did the flogging.

The man, likely another slave, exerting his dominance, proving himself as master over the 'lesser' slave, pulled back only to find his wrist caught in Whisper's firm grasp, unable to draw the flog down against the victim's back another time. He tugged once, but found the Lunar's grip much finer than he expected. It was a moment before Whisper spoke, letting the man take in his agile form, the blades at his hips, the black and silver coat he wore, his tattooed chest.

"What is this man's crime that you would flog him so viciously, in public no less? Surely no man deserves such violence, let alone the humiliation that must follow?" His words were stark, strong, forward. He made it clear that he meant no violence, but that this gross misuse of whatever power this man had been granted would end so long as Whisper's presence remained.

Balance

"Right on time."

Balance stood ignored (as usual) on top of one of the slave huts as he watched the huge man bisect the guards. As he did so he checked each fallen man off his list, before examining his timepiece again. A flat circle of silver with dials of all colours of Jade, it told him he had 17 minutes precisely until his real mission began.

His flawless triple backflip to the ground going completely unnoticed by those around him, Balance sighed and set off to the slave-master's compound.

The overseer's face freezes in an expression of shock as he is cleft in two by the Abyssal's sword. The other overseers look about in terror and flee, a few of them heading towards the slave master's compound. The slaves simply continue to work, barely registering the murder in their stupour.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

W-wuh? the flogger whimpers out to the Lunar. H-he killed another slave, s-so he's being punished., he stutters the words out, his face a mixture of astonishment and fear.

Looking at the fleeing men, the Abyssal shakes his head slightly and swings his sword, splattering most of the blood covering it's blade to the ground. One cut was all it took for him to kill the bastard of a slaver... And now that the rest of them are fleeing for their lives, it seems that his work will be a great deal easier. Pausing to cut off the head of the corpse almost as an afterthought, he begins to make his way towards the compound.

Walking briskly towards the slaver compound, he cuts down any slaver too slow or stupid to end up in his way without breaking a stride, dragging his weapon behind himself with one hand. The soulsteel makes very ghastly sound as it is dragged along, but he knows that there is very little chance of sword dulling or being damaged by such, so it does not matter.

Upon reaching the first buildings, he pulls his arm back casually and hurls the split head of the killed slaver forward, smiling narrowly to himself as it impacts against the wall of nearest hut and leaves bloody smear behind. This is just the beginning.

"Come out, slaver cowards!" he calls out in Low Realm, hefting the Grand Daiklave up to his shoulder again in very casual gesture. "Of course I don't expect much from dogs such as yourselves, but you could try at least show some dignity and face me by your own accord... Otherwise I will just have to hunt you all down one by one!"

The young man looked down to the slave kneeling before the would-be master, and sighed, "If this were true - and I would hear it from him as well - I would think your masters have a law to deal with such an action, rather than simply beating a man mercilessly to death in the street." Whisper, still holding the man's wrist, plucked the flog from his hand and letting go of his wrist, took the moment to break the flog in his hands, dropping it uselessly to the ground.

"If such a law were to exist, would your punishment not be greater for meting out justice at your own leisure? Or are your masters so uninterested in your lives that he would let you simply strike each other down in violence?" Resting his hands on the twin hilts of his daiklaives, he motioned for the abuser to leave, "I suggest if those avenues exist, you follow them. Now."

Sighing, Whisper quickly dropped, bending his knees and leaning forward to the flogged man, "Is what that man said true? Did you kill another?" He lifted the man's head to look at him, "And if you did, what would possess you to harm a brother in your plight?"

Looking at the woman adressing him, Spectre's crimson eyes narrow momentarily. He is very apparently not too trusting at first glance, but eventually shrughs his shoulders. If she wants to fight, it is really not his right to intervene: many people can well have grudges against monsters like these. He is here only to give harsh justice to the wicked, and expecting no praise from the righteous.

"If you wish to fight them, I will not deny you that. Don't try to stand in my way or attack me trecherously and I will not have to kill you" he says in silent tone one almost feels more than hears. "I do believe that there is enough for everyone who want to fight them... Or at least there are so for now. I cannot guarantee you will find much opposition or living souls within these buildings after I have passed through" he finishes, not bragging or boasting but simply telling cold, hard truth.

Gripping his sword in two-handed grip and lifting it easily over his head, his eyes turn back to scanning his surroundings. "Do I need to come and get you then?" he shouts out to any remaining slavers, clearly very ready to do so.

Balance

Balance watched as the Abyssal walked through town and sighed deeply. He was a Chosen of Endings; this giant man certainly had the basics of death sorted, but he had none of the finesse a true Reckoner had.

Donning his new identity he became clear to those around him for the first time. Not that anyone acknowledged him, he was no Leonard of Stone Tower; the slave master's head of security. Without a split second of hesitation he walked to the man's office, waving away any guards who had not fled.

The slave master was so busy he didn't even notice the security expert enter. His voice is perfectly monotone and calm.

"Sir, there are anathema at your door. It is time to leave. Once you are secure I will return to maintain your investments, but they are no use to you dead, and you are no use to me dead. Let us leave by the back way now."

The slavemaster's head snaps up, shocked. A-anathema? Here? What do they want here? He stands up and paces to his desk, trying to take in the information. This is completely unexpected. They must know about The Project, but why are they getting involved? He takes a deep breath Regardless, they are not the problem now, our benefactor will take care of them, we're lucky he decided to stay the night after the... negotiations. No, the problem is who sent them, for them to know about The Project, they must have a contact, someone who knows about us.

Elsewhere in the village, Spectre's rampage has not gone unnoticed. The door to one of the more expensive cabins, those owned by the wealthy and free, slams open; revealing a tall, dark skinned man covered in a black cloak.
He strides angrily forward, cloak tailing behind him, fists clenched.
You fellows just interrupted my sleep! I LIKED my sleep! Dreams are so much kinder than reality. And the way I see it, you fellows are about to start dreaming for a long time!
He snaps his fingers and his hand bursts into a ball of flame, his other hand drawing a Daiklave from his back.

Not speaking a word, Spectre merely nods solemnly at the grand declaraction of the man, keeping his Grand Daiklave levelled towards his enemy without any apparent effort from his part. He might enjoy combat and testing himself against strong opponents, but he does not enjoy overt mockery, nor tries to get edge over his enemy with witty banter.

Death does not mock. Death does not underestimate men who claim themselves to be heroes or villains. Death neither agrees or disagrees with boasts, nor screams out it's own superiority. Death embraces the lowest peasant and mightiest lord alike in time... And now it will collect this man before the chosen of the Void.

Changing his grip on the Grand Daiklave, he moves it to his side in slow and purposeful gesture, now holding the sword in two-handed reverse grip. It is somewhat unusual stance, but he knows that his next move will be something that the man before him is very unlikely to ever see coming.

Then suddenly he charges forward with speed completely ludicrous to a combatant armed and armoured like he is, swinging his blade around himself so fast that it's movements are nearly lost to naked eye. At times it even seems to be in middle of multible strikes at once!

The insolent man is battered about like a ragdoll by the furious barrage of blows from Spectre, before he even has a chance to dodge. The first three smash into him dizzyingly, first to the midriff, then the shoulder, then the jaw, drawing blood in a disgusting shower of death. The fourth blow narrowly misses by stroke of luck, but the fifth hits home, almost entirely unneeded, as the man is quite clearly and obviously already dead beyond reprieve. His cloak flutters around him as he sags to the floor, Daiklave dropping to the ground as his fingers relax in the grip of death.
The blood that now covers Spectre begins to glow with red light, and is slowly absorbed into him, filling his veins with power and essence.

Two seconds pass, and the body suddenly explodes in roaring red flames and black smoke, completely dissipating into the air.

The first fascimile effortlessly dodges the thrown Daiklave, embers falling from its hair as it leaps to the side, spins and grabs the Daiklave in mid-air.
The original too, somehow manages to dodge Spectre's first two blows, his body seeming to ripple through the strikes, as air ripples on a hot day. He does not fare so well against the next one though, as Spectre lands a solid hit on Sky's frame, knocking him to the side and slicing a large cut in his side. He sways a little as he regains his footing, and it is this luck that saves him, as his head just falls to the side of Spectre's strike, narrowly dodging the powerful blow.

Sky grits his teeth and tightens his grip on his Daiklave I'll show you! This fight has barely begun! A small spark leaps from between his fingers and grows into a strong flame around his fist. The flame burns powerfully, and the intense heat can be felt from yards away. But it is not this that is the true purpose of the fire. Darks plumes of smoke billow out from the hand and around the blade, rising from the tip into the air.
Sky narrows his eyes and flings himself at Spectre, swinging his sword furiously towards him. The strikes just misses, but the nauseaus fumes trailing from the tip, invading his eyes and throat, temporarily obscuring his vision and making him cough and splutter.

The fascimile who had previously been the target of the thrown Daiklave, now wielding two blades, charges towards Moon, leaping into the air and falling from the sky, swinging both his blades to be outstretched in a powerful cross slash, although slightly mistimes his strike and misses Moon, overshooting into the ground a few yards behind him..

A second fascimile points his Daiklave behind him at the Master's compound, and a wall of fire surges upwards, forcibly barricading the attacker's away from the Master.
The final two fascimiles level their blades, ready to defend against anything.

"Aye sir. Stay close to me, if trouble finds us leave me behind and head for town."

With that he will take the slavemaster out the back of his compound, decidedly out of the eyeline of the combatants. They will claim the fastest horses and get out of dodge.

Leonard will leave orders with the guards to not engage to Anathema unless he either attacks them first or comes after the slavemaster. Balance however will tut to himself about the Abyssal again, the idea of having to come back here and divert him didn't fill him with glee.

Plan is to get him clear then come back and join the group proper.

Coughing slightly at as the fumes of the fire reach him, Spectre still manages to avoid the strike of the daiklave and narrows his blood-red eyes. At least now it is confirmed that the real enemy behind all these flaming imitations can be hurt by his blade... And would be dead already were it not for simple luck. Whatever feelings he might have for his trainers who likely resided in Thorns this very moment, he has to admit that their teachings serve him well when cutting down his enemies.

"And all that begins...Must end" Spectre says in silent, stern tone, suddenly moving into full offensive yet again. Then he does what he has not been forced to do in quite some while, starting dreadful chain of strikes: a move that is spoken of only in hushed whispers near the city of Thorns. The move that bears the name of Merciless Executioner Method.

Yep, activating the Combo now. If he pulls through THIS one, I am very surprised indeed :smalltongue:

So, here come the effects and costs. Five strikes without penalties (Time-scything technique), that allow me to count extra successes on attack rolls twice (Savage Shade Style), and that each get 2 dice bonus (first melee excellency, using 8 motes).

As the fascimile lands on the ground, it has no time to attempt a dodge, and is struck by the two arrows right in the Chest, rocketing backwards a dozen yards and smashing into one of the ramshackle huts, destroying it as the fascimile bursts into flames and dissipates.

The two fascimiles guarding Sky's sides fervently leap to his aid and attempt to defend him, even managing to take Spectre's first two strikes, although being annihilated in doing. Their desperate assistance is of no true use however, as Spectre's remaining three blows are more than enough to do the distasteful job. Sky is smashed between the sword-blows, bones breaking and large gashes pouring blood, the force of the third one slamming him to the ground. Spectre draws his blade up for one final strike, throwing it down, embedding into the baked earth right next to Sky's battered head.

Moments pass, and Sky's limp fist clenches. He has some life in him yet. He staggers to his feet, swaying uncontrollably. I-I guess you're worky *cough* after all. But you haven't even seen a GLIMPSE of m-my t-true power! His knees give way and he falls to all fours, coughing and spluttering blood from his mouth, it is obviously just needless bravado.

Releasing his grip in the Grand Daiklave now partially embedded in the earth right next to Sky, Spectre reaches for his slotted helmet, pulling it off. The face behind the armoured headpiece is both terrifying and oddly beautiful, with marble-like skin and eyes, raven hair and crimson eyes that watch the broken man attentively. Bloody mark adorns his forehead, glowing with the same deathly blue flame that surrounds the whole body of the deathknight.

"I know" he says silently, folding his arms and sizing Sky up, but not apparently to measure where to land the killing blow. "But you would not want this strenght. The price it requires is too high to pay for anyone".

Looking around himself, he narrows his eyes and seems to flinch slightly as some sunlight shines directly into them. "At first, I believed that I should merely end you like I have ended so many other slavers and murderers. But you have shown yourself to be worthy opponent, and honourable as well. I respect that, so you can have your life for now".

Pulling his blade from the ground, he places his helmet back onto his head and hefts his weapon onto his shoulder again.

Do you want me to live with shame for the rest of my life!?! Sky tries to lift his Daiklave, as if to start the fight again, but the weight almost causes him to collapse. He takes a breath. Fine! But I hope you realise, we're rivals now, you and me! And I will beat you someday, or be shamed for the rest of my life! But for now, you can rest with winning, for now! Sky pulls his face into a wry smile and begins to hobble away from Spectre. Once he gets to about a dozen yards he turns round again. My name is Blossoming-Sky of Burning Autumn! Remember it! He then disappears in a flash of fire and is gone.

Striding towards the source of the fire, Whisper rests his hands on the hilts of his daiklaives, ready for the moment he may have to draw them.

As he approached the building that the other two exalts had entered, he stops for a moment, surveying the damage of the door, before gracefully stepping over the debris of the door and drawing his moonsilver daiklaives, holding them in an reverse grip for the moment, and moving carefully and slowly, attempting to remain hidden and keep anyone within the building delightfully unaware of the Lunar.

When I walk in the unusual parts of the Realms, I always try to picture myself in their shoes; not as a servant of the Bodhisattva, or a ranking captain of Skullstone, or even the apprentice of the legendary Ebon Siaka; but instead, I wondered what I would do - how I would think - if I was in the shoes of that old man down the road that crafts foot-leathers for a living, or if I was wearing petticoats and those cute little heeled slippers and swooning in the arms of a prince in a king-like dance hall.

I would mighty like to be the latter, if circumstances did not already beget me enough recognition in my true hometown. To have all of their eyes as I waltz down the dance-halls with the ghost of my mother watching me with ever-so-proud eyes. The old man, I can less imagine - I do not know how people can live such boring and repetitive vocations and still have that sparkle of life shining so brightly in their eyes. What was the purpose of living if all your life, you would only sit in that same dusty old shack, putting black dye on stiff leather with no hopes of recognition or reprise?

Such plain, incomprehensible livelihoods. I pity the realms sometimes; in my homeland, at least, there was the chance of reincarnation and the status that comes with a beautiful death. A ghost was worth at least a hundred souls of humans; here, becoming one of those 'dragon-blooded' was as difficult as becoming a death knight, without which wealth and prestige was only an artifice of birth. What can you do if you were a simple footwear-maker? Make footwear until death comes knocking at your door, and then, nothing - no reincarnation and no prestige. Hungry ghosts were not welcome in the doors of the mortal realm.

They must have some reason to continue this cycle of existence. The prince certainly did not forbid me from studying this behavior when he handed me this strange order, and it is one of the little curiosities that I still permit myself. Even between death and hatred, I still hold - void forbid - some interest in the natural order of things. After all, why not - even if all things were to end some day?

Regardless, I have completed this simple mound that was to be my previous master's grave. Not the Prince - Neverborn forbid that I would do such a heinous thing - but the solar exalt that was to be the first master that the Prince bid me follow. I did not kill him myself. I played no part in his death, in fact, except for perhaps not standing in the path of the arrows that struck him down. I'd like to think we became friends in some perverse sort of way when he parted with this realm; he was not vengeful when I found him dying in the Realm's alleyways. He just held my hand with light, quivering palms and asked me to continue his legacy. "I have no regrets," he had whispered. Further proof of the superiority of death.

I placed a flower on that mound and walked away. Even if I had grown somewhat fond of my ability in the material world, I wanted him to rest in peace, at the very least. I had no reason to make his life miserable by defiling his resting place. A whisper of goodbye was all that he required, after which, I walked away - into the sunset, and toward my search for the one who would become my next temporary liege.

The prince's order was still in effect, after all; and thus, it has become my purpose.

She was trailing the dawn caste when she came upon the village.

Someone had already made quite a mess here, it seems; remnants of fires charred the fields and mingled with blood wherever they would meet, forming miniature streams of scarlet red where they met the scarred marks of a grand daiklave. A artful piece of work lacking subtlety, not that she was very interested in its execution. She didn't really want to bother anyone at this moment, for that matter, unless if she needed the essence.

The dawn solar had already disappeared, and with it, her goal: she was certain that the solar girl must have entered this town by some means, but by sheer carelessness and idiocy, had completely lost what remained of his trails. Dream moaned silently at this development - without another word, she slipped back into the shadows and tried to make sense of what had happened to this town, battered corpses and all by an unconcerned dragon-blooded - or an anathema that really wanted to commit suicide against the hunt.

She wasn't going to find the solar anymore - perhaps she knows some form of teleportation sorcery and had already detected her essence, or perhaps she was suddenly just that good at making himself not appear to the naked eye. For now, Dream tried to follow this new development - a single trail of blood leading from the corpses to a large structure of stone masonry. There seemed to be a few people inside; either the exalt that had caused this mess of things, or the dragon-blooded that had come to investigate. Either way, she was well-disguised from either circumstance, unlike the blaring anima from one of the exalted within.

"What happened here?" she popped out from the distance and exclaimed, trying to sound surprised. Even if these are wyld hunters, she would appear as a simple civilian that had chanced upon this scene; hopefully, that would not attract too much of a suspicion.

He let the Dragon-Blooded live, Wish thought, feeling her respect for the Abyssal rise as she watched him break his way into the building from the shadows of an alley. The word 'subtlety' doesn't seem to have a place in his vocabulary, but he's not killing for the sake of it. One worth watching, perhaps.

That the Terrestrial was allowed to leave was probably for the best, she thought, both philosophically and strategically. He would doubtlessly tell his fellowship what had happened, and the lot of them would likely seek the deathknight out as soon as possible, but they would be slowed by the need to care for their injured friend, and they wouldn't be fighting with the fury and zeal a fallen comrade would have woken. In her travels Mitzi had once witnessed a fellowship feeling the death of one of their own and the wrath they brought down on the one responsible, and she had no desire to be in the same town as one who would cross them so, theoretically stronger or not.

The Eastern-looking woman who had come to the deathknight's aid was also interesting. To side so quickly with an Abyssal over a Dragon-Blooded suggested she was likely a Celestial Exalted herself, and an open-minded one at that; another potential ally? Still, Wish doubted that either of the two had been the author of the letter asking her to come here.

She resolved to keep watching the strange pair; if they ran into trouble inside, she'd come to their aid, but for now she'd keep watch outside in case the escaped Terrestrial - or the Abyssal's anima - brought reinforcements. She ghosted forward to a new hiding place that would give her a better view of the building and the road but still hide her from the few curious onlookers who had arrived...

Such small violation of his personal space is not worth fighting over... but it does not mean that he particularly enjoys it. Looking at the Lunar somewhat sourly, he steps further into the office after her. It certainly does look like the leader of this whole wretched enterprice has managed to flee when he has been fighting. That is rather unfourtunate.

Looking between the two, and eying the obvious deathknight, "Oh, ah... I take it that you're not Terrestrials then..." He shifts a bit, looking back towards the door, "Though, that begs where they went."

He shifts his grip on his blades, mostly ignoring the Abyssal's threat, even waving it off as he spoke, "Yeah, yeah. I'll have to stitch myself together, all Deathknight style when you're done with me, right? Is there a chance you could possibly be a tad more creative with your threats? 'Rip and Tear!' is overdone, and yawn worthy," keeping a loose grip on his daiklaive, he brings his hand to his mouth in a mock-yawn, "See? Tired already."

Dropping his hand back down, he shrugs, "But given you're here, and Terrestrials aren't, I take it that anyone in charge has conveniently received a considerable advance warning - likewise, the rest of the village - and has taken off. Making this a mite bit difficult." Whisper sighed again, his arms hanging rather loosely, while the tips of his blades rested on the floor, "Too bad. I had hoped to resolve this matter quickly."

"I am sure my former compatriots could have offered variety of more exotic means to slow your demise to crawl and capture your ghost so you could be tormented in the underworld for all eternity... But I have forsaken those ways. If I am to kill you, it will be quickly, cleanly and without spite".

Turning away from the man he shakes his head. "But you are no one I see good reason to harm, so I believe I do not have to resort to ending your life" he concludes, looking about at the room and finding it rather vacant of target he is here to destroy.

"And you, kid, would do well to find out the little details like how the place works before walking blindly into a satrapy of the Realm, don't you think? Especially when you're not doing the best job at hiding that you're an Anathema - though at least you tried." Wish raised an eyebrow at Spectre.

Balance

Having dumped the intolerable slavemaster in a tavern and paid the tavernmaster just enough for him to portray a convincing safehouse attendant for a few days, Balance had told him to stay there until he heard news. He expected him to come back in a few days once he heard nothing from Leonard, but by then the Abyssal would be gone and he could get back to Yu-Shan (he was half tempted to place a curse on the Child of Ash for being so reckless, but that would probably just get him in trouble).

Once he was out of town Balance stowed Leonard away in Elsewhere and made sure their path wasn't traceable, and after bickering briefly with the God of the surrounding plains about food supplies he released his horse; preferring to walk back into town on foot.

Once there he will wait for the assorted supermen to leave the compound. When they do he will be sitting on a barrel and provide them with a slow, sarcastic clap as a reward.

They see a tall but thin man (not as tall as Spectre obviously) with shoulder length black braids tied back with a cord, wearing a black greatcoat with a dual line of green jade buttons down the front and black hiking boots.

The dawn caste has miraculously re-appeared. No matter; she seemed like she would stay for quite a while. Dream is considerably more amused at the now-confirmed death knight; it's been a long time since she had heard of a rebellious death knight trying to help creation, and so eagerly destroying its souls in the process. Probably the first, in fact - there was one other that she could faintly remember, but her true liege would not speak of Fallen Wolf in any light other than 'he is a traitor. Stay away.'

Maybe she could even watch when his resonance explodes in all of its splendid fury. That would be quite fun, indeed.

"Erm, did you create this mess?" she queried, turning to the dawn caste as she spoke. It was rather obvious how this whole thing started, but she just wanted to see how these people - particularly the solar - would react to such a silly question.

...only to stop upon noticing a man sitting atop a barrel not far away, providing some very fitting sarcastic clapping. During a day like this, it really does feel that the creation just does everything it possibly can to mess with him in various manners. Fourtunately, he is not the type to get angered easily, or blood and body parts would have likely started to fly in all directions.

Most of the things contained in the desk are simply lists of accounts and petty letters, but your search does yield two items of interest. The first is a letter from the Guild addressed to the Master, dated to two weeks ago and reading the following:

It has recently come to our attention, that you have terminated our agreements as to Opium supply, moving to other sources. We at the Guild would like to remind you that, by the decree of both House Cynis and House Peleps and the affirmation of the Empress herself, all drug trafficking is restricted to official Guild channels. Our reach is long, and trouble always seems to mysteriously befall those who ignore our influence. The new batch of drugs should reach you in a few days, the new template should leave to increased efficiency, and speed up their work on The Project considerably.

The deathknight barely stops himself from sighing. So a joker this time around. This is just great.

"I assure you, my own destruction is not my goal" he says bluntly, choosing to let the mocking slide. "As for my reasons to do what I do, I think I will keep them to myself. I have not made it a habit to spew out my lifestory to every stranger in the realm".

Turning his gaze away from Balance, he looks at the possible routes ahead of himself measuringly. "And since you are in no way relevant to my quest, I do not see much reason to entertain your curiousity".

With that he straightens his coat and becomes much less sprite-like.

The Dragon-Blood you let live went east, most likely to a small Immaculate monastery that's out that way. I'd suggest you and your friends head in the opposite direction, I hear that Thousand Splinters was there, and I'm sure her repuation precedes her.

"I don't think so", he replies in same neutral tone, looking at the site his most recent battle took place not all that many moments ago. "He seems rather determined to take me down himself, so I doulbt that he will go to the Order. I have never worried much about them in any case, so I will carry on like I always have".

"And I am hard pressed to see why you categorize people I have met not ten minutes ago as my friends" he mutters, swinging his Grand Daiklave around himself in slow practice moves. "I did not come all this way to make friends: I came to seek the solar exalted. So unless some of you can point me to one, I believe we don't have much in way of common interests".

Moon picks up the two letters reading several times from top to bottom looking quite troubled, while the others near her talked. "I..cant be reading this right...they crossed the guild to..get drugs from another source..Either they are truly stupid or..", Moon whispered to herself in her native tongue before noticing the close resemblance of the seal to a dynastic seal but not one of any current house. "Things always seem to just get more and more complicated.", she continued before sitting down in the desk chair and looking around the room as if she just awoke from a dream. Before realizing that another two people had joined her and the moonsilver armed traveler while Specter had left.
...This seems like the start of a really horrible joke... she thought, while looking over the three other people in the room. ..Well he is definitely a lunar..or at least an exalted to be wielding twin daiklaives in a reverse grip, while the others... she paused mentally, looking over the other two and taking in their details before continuing, the white haired one...seems to be alittle..too sure of herself while the other..either has a thing for the white haired one or..is hunting her... Moon then sighed, gently massaged the back of her neck, and made a mental note to keep an eye on the two other woman before pocketing the letters and following Specter outside to inform him of what she found.
She walked briskly to catch up to him before uttering in low realm, "Specter, I found some information on a possible le-". Moon paused when she realized that he was talking to yet another person before continuing, "..Nevermind..This might be best said when the two of us are alone Specter...Also..who is this?" she points to the new "arrival" near a barrel.

Loving though their talk is, Spectre and Balance's conversation is interrupted by a great scream of pain from one of the fields. One of the slaves runs towards the group, with a stumbling lurch. It's the slave that Whisper spoke too earlier. He opens and closes his mouth repeatedly, as if unable to find the words to express his horror, but finally gets up the willpower to moan T-the Opium, i-it's different this time, it f-feels wrong! It hurts! He clutches himself and sinks to the floor, beginning to writhe in pain. He turns his head upwards to the sky, eyelids closed, he grasps Balance's leg. H-hep me, i-it hurts.
His eyes snap open, revealing hard blank balls, devoid of any irises or pupils, just pure white. His grip on Balance slackens, and he goes limp on the floor. Dead.

Elsewhere in the fields, more wails cry out, as slaves collapse at their work, leaving every single one of them pale, cold, and lifeless. Dead.

That...is bad...really bad.., thought Moon as the slave's limp body fell to the ground and screams from the fields rang out. She then clutched the letters she found in the office tightly in her pockets before retrieving it from her person.
"....And that is what I came here to tell you about.", She half groans in low realm before striding over to the slave's body and pointing to his eyes before pointing to the letter with the dynastic seal in her palm.
"They received a shipment of a more powerful form of the drugs they use here. And.., Moon pauses to turn towards the body before her, "This is the result..".
Moon then kneels to close the eyes of the dead slave before saying a prayer for his soul in her native tongue."Specter.. this is only going to get worse..while I wouldn't normally ask for assistance from anyone..Who ever sent these drugs was also powerful enough to convince the locals to cancel their deals with the Guild and risk their ire.", Moon postulated, before rising from her kneeling position to face Specter.

Falling utterly silent upon seeing the seal on the letter, Spectre pulls down his hood and takes off his helmet to be extremely sure that he sees right. The seal in question is known to him, and known rather well as a matter of fact. He just never expected to see it again, but apparently surprises of colossal proportions happen still.

"Yes, he is indeed convincing enough to do that I imagine", the deathknight replies and balls his free hand into a gauntleted fist. "I know that seal, and it's owner is someone who cares little of the Guild. It belongs to one of the rulers of the underworld... a deathlord named The Manifold Wings of Unassailable Power. I know some things about him, as I fought against him while... while I was still in service of Mask of Winters, another deathlord".

Looking at the gathered Exalted, he speaks in low, terrifyingly cold tone. "His favourite tactic to strike against creation has always been through mind-breaking drugs. He even planned to strike against Thorns, but Mask captured it before he could make his move. I was sent to ruin his plans more than once during my service. I even killed one of his servants, Harbinger of True Oblivion. I believe he still bears some...resentment towards me for that".

For a moment, Spectre actually smiles grimly, showing pair of sharp teeth standing out from the rest in his mouth before continuing. "What is important is that he has decided to make his move here and now... I believe that I will have to seek out the source of his poison and destroy it just like before... However, I do believe that some allies would be necessary for such an endeavour".

"Ooh, sounds like an important person," Dream commented; the death knight certainly explained the situation well enough, and the dawn that she was so adamant on following seemed to be a bit preoccupied at the moment. For now, she sneaked up and peered over the shoulder of the lunar, suddenly snatching the letter and peering - rather disinterestedly - at its contents.

She couldn't resist shooting an amusing smirk at the other death knight, along with a light-hearted joke - suddenly switching to high speech as she did so. "She sounds powerful, though. How are you going to seek out the source of her poison? Are you going to beat the tar out of the lesser opium until they spill where their boss lies?"

Sorry, the action is a bit out of character. I always have trouble roleplaying meetings (I had planned to start out already traveling with Horde's character, but circumstances had prevented that =p).

Whisper looked about as all of these Exalts had gathered, a fair bit more than he had expected - however, when Wish appeared, his gaze fell on her longer and held his interest longer than the others. There was something... familiar? Relaxing? No, he wasn't sure - something compelled him to take interest in the Solar, and he couldn't be sure why.

He wanted to slink back and fall away, but now, with this new feeling, he'd stay - intrigued by it and wanting to know more. He slipped away his blades, and stood a bit back from the others, watching as the scene unfolded before him.

He listened quietly, and took in what had just occurred - he couldn't simply just stand and watch as more people died, but the thought of facing off against a deathlord terrified him. He barely wanted to remain in the presence of the Deathknight, but what had been done to this village...

Whisper continued to stand quietly - contemplating the situation. There simply wasn't a way one could talk his way out of this matter; soft words and quick lies wouldn't stop a poison, let alone a Deathlord.

Sighing, he shrugged, "I suppose that you're implying that we aid you..."

Watching a man - and then an entire village - die was by no means how Wish had expected this argument to end. Her attempts to quell the bickering men dying on her tongue, she hesitantly stepped forward to examine the corpse. She searched the man for any signs of life; finding none, she gently closed his eyes.

This was an abomination. What had this village died for? Not conquest, nor riches, nor revenge, and certainly not justice - these people had simply lived their lives as best they could, then were poisoned like rats, and with as little concern.

But the deathknight knew who was responsible. There was someone to be punished, and a means to keep this from happening again. Wish breathed deeply to clear her head as she listened to him explain. Once she had cooled off enough, certain other implications occurred to her.

This was starting to look more and more like a trap. The timing was too perfect - both of their arrival and of the deaths of the villagers, occurring nearly in perfect unison. So many "Anathema" being led to the town, one way or another, right before couldn't possibly be a coincidence. They had likely been placed there to take the blame - and considering her own ill luck and the general perversity of fate, Wish felt the odds of a band of Dragon-Blooded arriving to see them within moments climbing steadily. They had better get moving quickly.

"You said you were looking for a Solar, did you not? My name is Thirteenth Wishful Thinker, and if your aim is to prevent this from happening again..." Channeling just enough Essence to cause her caste mark to glow brightly for a moment, she she stood, turned around, and looked the Abyssal in the eye. "...Then you will have my aid."

"I hope you'll let me work with you on matters of stealth, however," she muttered.

Wish looked at each of the others - noting that yet another woman had slipped her way into the group unnoticed - and cleared her throat to summon her voice of command, nevermind that it had been years since she'd had the opportunity to use it. "We need to move out immediately, before a pack of Immaculates can show up to blame this monstrosity on us. Is there any indication from the documents you've found that could tell us where to go next?"

Casting his gaze upon Dream first, Spectre does not seem to be the least bit amused, his face unmoving as that of a statue. "I do not see anything particularly humorous in this situation. And interrogating lesser minions is unlikely to give results, since he has always been very careful to keep on the move and hiding after the incident at Thorns. If he wouldn't, Mask of Winters would find him and destroy him".

Looking at Whisper from the corner of his eye, he shakes his head. "I am not implying anything. If you have the wish or reason to join me in quest of taking down Wings, your assistance is welcomed. If you do not, I will find others to aid myself, even if seeking such inviduals out might take time".

Turning his attention to Wish, he listens to her as she speaks... and is struck by somewhat of a surprise as she reveals her caste mark. To find one of the champions of Unconquered Sun here, when he has sought them out for quite some time now... Perhaps he can have some luck even in midst of this cursed existence.

Doing something rather surprising, the deathknight drops down to one knee in front of Wish, lowering his gaze to the ground in respect. "Chosen of the Sun... I have sought your kind out in this world for some time now, but my search has been fruitless until this moment. There are many things that I wish to speak with you about".

Raising back to his feet, he keeps his gaze lowered still as he continues. "But time for talking is later. Now is time for us to leave this place, as you said. There is nothing but death remaining here, and a way to thwart further attrocities such as this is, without doulbt, elsewhere. We can think about our next move after we are far away from here to avoid those who will likely come to see what happened in this place".

"Yeah, being anathema must suck."

The braid-haired man begins rooting through his coat pockets, dropping to the floor all manner of things; a spinning top, a silver watch, pens, a small coin purse, a glass eye, a handful of feathers, the sit goes on. He digs deeper and deeper into them (yelping when he apparently stabs himself with a knitting needle) until he finally has a eureka moment and, slightly cheering himself, pulls out a small glass spider, about the size of his palm.

Blowing gently on it it judders into life, and he whispers something at it. Once complete he gives a huge wind up, and threw it into the sky, where it zoomed off into the distance.

Satisfied he begins picking the contents of his pockets up and returning them to their former home (except the knitting needle, which he glares at and throws away).

"There's no need to be that solemn. Even in a tense situation, you'd be surprised at what a smile can do to your conviction." Dream spoke honestly this time, with no hint of mockery or childishness in her voice. The other death knight was too tense, she thought - true, going against a death lord is almost like signing a death warrant for yourself, but is not keeping a positive attitude even more important in such a sorrowful situation?

Conveniently, she forgot all about the dying peasants that were scattered around them. Or perhaps she just paid them no mind in the first place? Regardless, hearing the solar's decision, she was quick to chime her response as well. "If you're looking for allies, though, I can lend you my aid. Whisper stood solemnly, letting the fellow Lunar and Solar deal with the deathknight, rather than getting involved directly. As Wish made the suggestion to move on, it felt different to Whisper - less a suggestion, more a command, one he didn't wish to deny.

"I agree, Wish," The nickname came out as familiar, feeling right and natural to the Lunar, he shook his head, "We should move on before more appear to find us."

He started to move, before Spectre spoke again, "Subtlety is not my forte. I am a warrior, not an assassin. Why you would care whenever I was detected or not is beyond me, though." The words were foolish, it didn't take an intelligent man to see such a thing.

He stopped, and turned, interrupting the Abyssal before he could continue, "While subtlety may not be a personal strength, you would do well to keep it in mind while traveling with others. We do not all appreciate the thin veil of anonymity we possess to be broken because a single man cannot think beyond his own personal world. We do not revolve around you, and you requested Wish's aid - not the other way around. Perhaps you'd do well to keep that in mind..."

He narrowed his eyes as the Abyssal began to speak again, turning away, "It seems however, that we do agree on one point."

Narrowing his eyes in return, Spectre lookes at Whisper with glare that could likely make even fae pale. "I asked if any of your would be willing to aid me in taking the fight to a deathlord, yes. I requested nothing. Expecially not your commentary."

His eyes holding great deal of surpressed threat in them, the Abyssal stays unmoving, glaring at the lunar. "My 'personal world', you say? Stop trying to impress or intimidate me or her, and listen... And I will tell you everything about my world, pup".

Slamming his Grand Daiklave point-first to the ground in shockingly furious gesture completely at odds with his otherwise calm demandeour, he taps his armoured finger against the blade, procuring not chime of metal but quiet, tortured screeches. "My world, as you call it, is place beyond death. I was ripped into that world because I wished revenge on my killers. Because I hoped to protect my loved ones from my own fate. And at the end of it? They all died anyhow. I lost everything I had in one night, and from there it was nothing but slavish servitude and loss after loss for me. Do you think that it would be easy to lose your freedom? Name? Perhaps your very self? That world is one in which there was no escape from the servitude of cruel masters, where I got to watch the very creation slowly caving in on itself. It is a world where life, freedom or morality have no meaning".

His hands clench into armoured fists, his eyes now match the flare of unholy fire still dancing around his form. "I did everything that I could to get away from my world, as you call it, and from there on I have not thought about myself in single day. I have seen what lurks beyond the treshold leading into the realm of the dead, and I will do everything to protect the Creation from those dwelling beyond it... Or those perpetuating injustice within it. And now, when I have finally found a goal truly worthy of sacrifice, an enemy deserving the pain and suffering I can inflict upon my foes, and try to gather others to fight the threat as well... You think that I cannot see beyond my world. Well, here is something you are obviously unaware of: Creation was my world. And I will give everything I am to defend it. Everything I am is focused into that single goal, and I revolve around it and it only."

Yanking the massive sword out of the ground again, Spectre turns around so quickly that his cloak flares behind him. "I am servant of the Creation as a whole now. Nothing revolves around me, because I am nothing. If you think that I care about or wish for anyone to notice me any more than it takes to defend the creation from it's enemies, then you are a much bigger fool than I took you for...pup."

With that, he begins to walk away from the compound.

"Your sword, for instance - a grand daiklave, right? Anyone could tell that it's a soulsteel blade and not a jade weapon. If you flash it whenever you see some bandits assaulting a villager, the order will be on your tail in no time at all."

"Maybe what we need is just a redecoration." Without waiting for the abyssal's answer, Dream swiftly tossed the cloth onto, half-shrouding it from view. Turning around to back peddle, while following the young mans trail, she sees the unidentified woman standing near Specter with a cloth apparently trying to cover his weapon, "This is gonna get interesting." she wonders out loud in her native tongue before turning back around to catch up to the young man.

Moon, seeing that they were ahead of the others, began to stride faster to catch up to this unnamed man. By the time she reached within 5ft of him, she began to have a gleam of curiosity in her eyes as she studied him from behind, observing the way he walked, as well as the way he was armed. Reaching within arms reach of him, Moon extended her left arm to grasp his right shoulder before pulling herself closer to his ear and whispering, "What are you? Where did you come from? And how did you get those daiklaives?"

Wish couldn't help but snort in surprise and amusement as the two posturing men suddenly broke off and apologized to each other. Would wonders never cease?

While the group hurried off, Wish watched the (most recent) newcomer throw her cloth over Spectre's Daiklave, considering how do deal with the Abyssal's state as quite the proud nail. "Making you look like a Dynast or even an Outcaste could work to keep the suspicion of common folk off of us, but it won't hold up if we have to speak with any real ones...unless the rest of us could take similar disguises... I wonder if you could learn a trick to hide the blade like I have...

"Regardless, I would be happy to give you some basic training in how to avoid notice. Dawn though I may be, I was a thief before I was a warrior." She pursed her lips for a moment. "With that in mind, I'd appreciate it if you'd consider giving me some tips on how to properly swing one of these monstrosities-" she pats the now-covered daiklaive "-in return."

"One more matter." Wish reached out and put a hand on the strange young woman's shoulder. "While I can't fault you for appearing out of nowhere without hypocrisy, I don't believe you've introduced yourself, miss."

Nodding to Dream, the deathknight sets to covering the blade of the enormous cleaver from sight, carefully covering the dark metal and tying the cloth by it's corners, so that it less likely to be pulled loose unintentionally. The handle is dark as well, but still more likely to be passed off as that of normal weapon... Or so he hopes.

"If to comes to disguises, I shall let you do the talking in any case, child of the Sun", he replies to Wish. "It is more likely to work than letting me speak for myself, since people usually notice something odd in my voice. Must be the fact that I am not really alive that causes that..."

Listening as the Dawn caste makes her suggestion about training, Spectre shrughs his broad shoulders slightly. "If it can be done, I would appreciate it. And if you truly wish to learn what I can teach to you, I would be only too glad to pass on what little I know about the art of the blade".

Whisper pulled away a bit as Moon nearly crawled up him, "Whoa, lots of questions, let's handle them one at a time." He stroked his chin for a moment, as if thinking, "Let's see. The daiklaives are from a friend - or, at least, someone I thought of as a friend."

He keeps walking and continues the thoughtful chin-stroking, "Where I'm from, well - that's easy enough. The North, much like I assume the rest of us are. I might not dress like it all the time," He gestured to his open coat, "but I am fairly acclimated to the weather here. Likely through no fault of my own..."

He dropped his hand, and shrugged as he came to the first - or last - question: "As for what I am; isn't that ruining the best part of the surprise? A bunch of new people with mixed qualities, and even mixed exaltations, in our case." Whisper looked to Moon and shrugged again, "But, if you insist..." He paused a moment, waiting for her answer.

"Yes, I do insist.", Moon paused before continuing, with a somewhat troubled look on her face partially covered by the hood of her cloak. "As so far..with an deathknight, A Solar and gods know what else the OTHER two are. At the rate we are going I am half expecting a deathlord to join our little group."

Stopping mid outburst to sigh, Moon massages the back of her neck with her left hand before passing her gaze to his eyes and keeping them there.

"..Lets try this again..", Moon paused to make sure he was paying attention, "You can call me Moon...What is your name? And what "type" of exalted are you? As either your a lunar..or your "friend" really wanted you to be lugging around a dead weight."

Waiting for his response, Moon's tail begins to slowly sway back in forth under her cloak.

"Oh, but it's quite easy to speak with an imperial," the girl giggled, turning her attention back to the dawn caste. With an exaggerated swaying as she turned her head toward the sky, she strutted toward the solar exalted and caricatured in a jocular tone. "Mooney. Moooooney? I have two million acres of land! Mooooney! I have two-hundred crates of opium and seven wives! I am better than you! Moooooney!"

"Regardless," Dream slowly dropped her acting, letting the last 'Moooney' hang in the air for a moment before bowing courteously to the solar exalted. "I apologize for not introducing myself...er, what's the right title to use? Dearest princess of the earth? My name is Dream, a simple journey-woman with a serviceable mastery with the art of the sword. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

Whisper laughs, and shrugs, "Fine, fine. You are correct - I am Whispering Bloody Wolf; Whisper is fine, however. I am, indeed, a Lunar, as you suspected - of the Full Moon caste. But really, was it the daiklaives, or the moonsilver on my chest that gave it away? I thought my tattoo surely gave it away. Hiding the damn thing is impossible." The lunar shrugged, as Spectre spoke up.

"Yes, that's what we're doing, perhaps you could keep up with us?" He quipped as he continued heading away from the village.

As the Circle move out, leaving the devestation and death behind them, they pass through seemingly endless fields of toiling slaves and harsh overseers, silhouetted against the sunset, seemingly oblivious to the horrible fate bestowed upon their fellows just a few miles away. This view persists until the Circle are well out of the province.

Night has fallen by the time you reach a suitable place to camp, and if you look up, you can see dozens of stars, slowly winking out one by one, replaced a simple pitch black voids, seeming to be sucking out all the light from around them. Only one light still shines in that dark wound, seeming to shine all the brighter from the loss of those around it, and yet still struggling against the shadow.

It is time to rest. Tomorrow is a new day, a day to act and plan and continue. Tomorrow is a new dawn.

Balance

As the circle moves out, Balance whispers thanks to his predecessors for breaking the Mask, they became so engrossed in introductions they'd apparently forgotten he was even there.

He did ponder the introductions though; they were noticeably thorough and polite for people who's live were in danger, barely knew one another, and had been at each others throats moments before. All Solars (a Deathknight is just a Solar with too much make-up to him) and Lunars so they were all present during the First Age; perhaps they had been a circle once and those ancient bonds had resonated between them today, calming the tensions. Perhaps he too had been in their circle, and the meeting had been no accident. Hmm....

Regardless of his musing however he hadn't been ordered back to Yu-Shan, which (annoyingly) meant he was probably expected to follow this illusion of death up. So as the circle moved he moved with them, but apart from them, checking the nooks and crannies of the slave-lands for clues.

As night fell however, Balance was concerned by the failing stars and so sent another information request to check whether that too was an illusion.

The day's events have been both confusing and relieving for him. Whilst it is true that he now has more enemies than ever and is en route to face old foe of unimaginable strenght once again, things are better than they have been for a while. Now, he has allies. Not very trusting allies yet, true, but allies still. Perhaps even people he could in time call...friends?

The neverborn whisper angrily in his mind at the thought, and he banishes it. Friends are for the living, but even dead men can still have allies. Dead men can still drag monsters and other dead back to their graves. Even dead men can make a difference.

As the weary group halts to make camp, Spectre places his great weapon leaning against a rock, sitting down and looking at his newfound allies thoughtfully. There is much he needs to learn, from them and from Creation itself... But for now, he needs to rest. Even the half-dead like himself need to slumber every now and then... And the battle with the dragon-blooded has taken some of his strenght, even if he will never admit it.

Removing his hood and helmet, Spectre scratches some of the dried blood around his caste mark away before abandonning the pointless endeavour and resolving to merely rest. The first rays of the sun will wake him quite well... If his dark dreams will not do it first.

Leaning against the rock, he crosses his hands over his chest and closes his eyes.

Further planning can wait until tomorrow.

Allies..it had been a long time since Moon had traveled with more than just an associate..never mind anyone she was able to trust enough to fall asleep near. Though, there was something a tad bit calming as she traveled with these five, out of the fields of slaves and their masters, towards the more undeveloped portions of the province. Maybe a past connection of some sort? No, Moon had not met any of them before this point..or maybe she no longer felt like she needs to keep her guard up.

As Moon continued to walk with the others and night began to fall, her eyes began to glimmer slightly and as they continued on the glimmer began to look more akin to tears. Finally reaching a place to camp for the night, Moon quietly walked over to an unpopulated portion of the camp before removing her weapons from her back and pushing her back against an tree. Then sliding down before sitting on the ground near the base of the tree and placing her weapons beside her.

Moon remained silent, looking at the patch of dirt in between her legs as the others took their own places amongst the camp. Only seconds had passed before, one could barely make out what looked like small droplets of water falling from her face. Moon's mind was filled with thoughts of home and of the family and friends that were exterminated because of her actions almost half a world away.

With these thoughts being addressed, she found herself beginning to fall asleep easier than she had for the past months. Before finally reaching the very edge of consciousness, Moon's thoughts turned back to the business at hand and finally to dreams of happier times.

Whisper sat down against a stone and watched as the others settled as well. He had long since abandoned his half-disguise, his moonsilver tattoos rippling over his form as he settled down. He slowly traced his fingers over them, before looking up to watch Wish from across the scrag. His thoughts passed to his mentor - Flickering Moonlight Dancer - sighing, he considered what she had taught him about the Solars. That just like the Lunars, they numbered 300 - or did at one time, and that each Solar held an unbreakable bond with a single Lunar.

He couldn't stop thinking about Wish since he had laid eyes on her - she permeated his thoughts, and her commands seemed to hold a sway on him. Resting his arms against his knees, he stared down into the dirt, trying to sort out what had happened today. Was the Seneschal right in believing that every Lunar needed their Solar mate? The power she held over him with a simple command scared Whisper, in a way he hadn't felt in two years - not since before his exaltation. His freedom seemed to slip away if she commanded, a powerful hold over him. Was this the nature of the bond they held?

He shook his head and lifted his eyes again to watch the others - Spectre, the deathknight. He felt a degree of comfort in the fact that they weren't at each other's throats for the moment. He didn't want to resort to violence in dealing with a possibly superior opponent. He wasn't sure even his War form was enough to stand against the Abyssal. He slowly drew his eyes to Moon - the rest of their travel to the campsite was mostly silent, but having another Lunar nearby helped - it built his confidence a bit. Perhaps she knew more about the bond, and could help him sort out his thoughts later...

Whisper sighed again as he looked down at his hand, shaping his flesh, building claws from his fingers, before releasing the transformation and his flesh shifted back into the natural smoothness of his human shape. What about the other two? They were both strange, and hadn't been nearly as forthright as the rest - hiding something from the rest. He didn't trust them yet, he hadn't given him reason to.

Marsday the 17th of Descending Fire, RY 768

New companions, new quest. I don't like this whole situation one bit - clearly a trap, but a trap for me or a trap for all of us?

Hope its the latter. It'd be nice to have people I can actually trust around again. Miss that, since, if nothing else. Still, not going to get too comfy just yet.

Spectre must be new to the whole deal; had no instincts to hide. Hopefully the talking to we gave him will stick until we're inevitably found by someone competent and the lesson gets pounded in properly. Can certainly swing that oar of his around though; maybe he can give me some tips to get through that block of mine.

Moon strikes me as odd. (How did she get named Moon? Really?) Very fast to seek friendships with dangerous strangers. Too fast? Hope not. Like her, so far. Witty, if strangely hesitant.

Know I've seen Whisper before. On the road? In Gethamane or Whitewall? A name is just out of reach. Certainly seems to know me, though. Could be a hunter. Don't think so, somehow, but watching my back around him.

Dream worries me. Didn't want to play our little game of trust. Reasons for that can't be good, now can they? Head in the clouds act could be a cover for anything. Going to take a good bit more before I trust her with more than I already have.

Balance doesn't share our reasons, said as much without hesitation, but threw in his lot anyway. If he's working for who I think he is, wouldn't be socked if he turned on us at the first opportunity. May be pleasantly surprised, but not holding my breath.

Huh. Am I just getting too paranoid? Looking for more enemies when I've got plenty already - that's exactly what I'm trying to put a stop to. Off to a great start, aren't I? Might be better to give them the benefit of the doubt for now, try and talk them round even if they don't turn up friendly. Worth the risk, to get the ball rolling? I'll think it over.

Still going to be watching for a dagger in the back, though.

The day's first light found Wish already awake and practicing with a sword so massive she could only have pulled it from Elsewhere. To those who knew blades, her swings seemed slightly clumsy and telegraphed, yet fast and brutal enough to make up the difference. She seemed to practice no single style, rather a cobbled-together mess of moves from several different traditions. One might also have noticed she seemed to move her own body even more than the blade, dashing around unpredictably and dragging it along in her wake, using its momentum as much as her own strength to power its strikes.

As the sun finished rising and her new companions prepared for the day to come, Wish turned to Spectre, looking him up and down.

"You seem to know your way around that daiklave of yours; I wouldn't be at all surprised if you were better than me. Still, I'd like to know for sure." She hefted her own blade. "What would you say to a quick contest of skill?"

Dawn. The time that he had missed for long time during his servitude in Thorns and the underworld. Even though he was now an enemy of creation itself (or at least certainly looked the part), he still rose to greet the sun when it's rays reached his eyes. Carefully dusting and straightening his cloak, he looked at the sunrise, like he had since he escaped his pursuers. The pure light of the daystar hurt his blood red eyes and made him wish to find comfortable shadow to hide in, but he did not do so, nor averted his gaze.

Instead, he bowed his head in silent, respectful greeting. Though he knew that his soul was linked to the underworld and oblivion itself, he did not care. He had made his choice to turn away from such a path and serve the inhabitants of Creation the best he could... so the least he could do was to pay respect to it's rightful ruler.

Looking momentarily thoughtful as Wish made her inquiry, he turned at her and hefted his weapon. "If you wish so, I would have nothing against it" he replied, spinning the massive weapon around himself effortlessly. "I have met only one chosen of the sun in combat before, and back then it was not really a fight... I had others with me, and he was exhausted. This should be interesting".

Without further ado, he removed the cloth from around the blade and took his usual combat stance, holding his weapon in two-handed grip by his side. "You can start, if that is your wish".

The strike Wish launched at him was quite perfect, a warrior's work of art that no mortal man could have evaded... or at least, the mortal men that could have done so were very few in number. It was almost a crying shame to intercept such a beautiful move, and usually it would have been impossible to boot.

But not to him.

Changing his grip on his own blade, Spectre spun it around his back with only one hand and making seemingly impossible block, the two weapons clashing with rather distinct sound.

"Quite impressive", he commented calmly while forcing her blade back, spinning around to test her defences with a strike of his own.

Why not? If she was just a little bit faster...

Feeling her Essence swirling through her body, speeding her legs and holding her balance steady, Wish sprang into motion, dashing ahead of the sweeping blade, just outracing it as she spiraled forward. The moment she got inside the blade's reach, she popped up to jab her pommel into his face.

"Yes, mother..I'll be inside in just a moment.", Moon whispered in her native tongue while still roaming the pleasant dreams she began the night before. Although her face was still covered and held at an angle towards the ground, Moons appeared to show a eager smile that had not been used in quite some time while in her sleep.

"Pulled blows, Charm use per your own discretion, first to three touches?", Moon heard woman's voice say amongst her dreams. "No, I do not want to play tag..", Moon whispered in response to this new voice, while adjusting her position against the tree and shifting her head to face the general direction from which the voice came.

Just as she seemed to drift further into her dreams, she heard the sound of rapid movement. To which her eyes lazily opened, seemingly shrugging off the moisture and dust that had developed the night before.

"Mmm..", Moon groaned as she awoke, rubbed her eyes, and stretched her arms above her head before realizing what was developing before her.

Did..I miss something here?, Moon pondered mentally while watching the hulking Spectre merely tilt his head to dodge Wish's pommel strike. ...Hopefully this is not going to end up with a corpse.., Moon thought to herself while the fight continued with Spectre's counter attack.

The flat of the blade smacked against the armour of Spectre, who looked at Wish with unreadable expression. It had been quite a while since anyone had landed a hit of any kind of him... At least those still amongst the ranks of the living, of course.

Seeming to pay no mind to idle chatter, the Abyssal instead took more wary posture, circling his opponent with predatory grace. Her strikes were rather accurate, and being hit more would not really win him this contest of skill.

Deciding to continue this cautious approach for the time being, Spectre struck out, his weapon cutting through the air with chilling hiss.

Such was her surprise that Spectre had allowed her to hit him so easily that Wish flashed away from his slash with but an instant to spare. Still, she was too late to save a few inches of her bangs; Wish caught the falling clump of white hair with a grunt of annoyance.

She winced as she realized that her caste mark was now glowing merrily on her forehead - if he was trying to tire her out, he'd be disappointed by how long it would take, but if they wanted to get anything done today it would help for her not to be glowing like a bonfire. Spectre had already impressed her plenty with his skill, and she felt confident she had done the same; time, then, to play for all the marbles, risk be damned.

She dashed forward and once more began to circle the deathknight, and, throwing caution to the wind, slashed out at him with an inverted hurricane of wild blows, seeming to attack from several directions at once.

As fast as she was, the solar's strikes were nothing Spectre was not used to dealing with. His skill with the blade had been honed for years and years, and these days he had mastered the art very well. If there was one universal truth about battling warrior Abyssals, it was this: nothing got through their defences unless they were too weak to defend themselves or allowed it.

And when Wish lashed out with her wild strikes, they were met with storm of displined blocks creating shield of swinging soulsteel between the combatants. Even the main strike that would have doulbtlessly defeated the defences of nearly anyone by the virtue of unpredictability alone was blocked effortlessly, the blade batted aside in almost artistic sweep before it could touch his armour.

Deciding to finally go for match-ending attack, Spectre utilized his split-second advantage and lashed out once, the strike multiplying into four even as it was struck, spectral copies of Grand Daiklave apparently striking out of thin air all around Wish. It took true artist to pull a blow like this, but Spectre was beyond the capabilities of mere men, so none of the hits would cause harm to Wish even if they would strike her. This was merely contest of skill, after all.

By the way, Unfurling Iron Lotus (and Peony Blossom Attack) have been erreta'd and no longer do that (SoE pp 18/55); they now let you attack everyone in three yards once. Time-Scything Technique should let you accomplish the same thing with a slightly different cost, though.
Not expecting so decisive a counterattack, Wish could only stop and stare as Spectre's causality-defying technique tapped her once on each arm, once on the back, and once on the neck. As each phantasmal blade but the one held to her throat faded away, she let out a low whistle.

"I need to learn how to do that."

She took a step back and bowed deeply to the deathknight, folding her daiklaive into Elsewhere. "I've had little opportunity to fight other Exalted. Good to have the reminder that I have a lot to learn, I think."

Pulling the Grand Daiklave from her neck, Spectre bowed equally deeply to Wish, apparently not even as much as warmed up yet. Of course such a thing might be very hard when one hovered on line between life and death, so he was somewhat of a exceptional case.

"We all have much to learn... On different paths" he replied, pressing the tip of his weapon against the ground and pausing to watch the sunrise coming into it's brilliant conclusion. It still hurt his eyes, but it was a pain he could accept gladly. "Though some thing that one learns one might wish not to have learned at all" he finished, making a small bow towards the sun.

Whisper grumbled to himself as he rolled over, covering his heads with his arm as the sounds of Wish and Spectre's training rang over the campsite. The lunar curled up into a ball, ignoring the sounds, not considering the source, and perhaps not wanting to get involved if it was something else.

He groaned again as he rolled over, and half opened his eyes, squinting as the morning sunlight touched his eyes, "Uuuugh." Sitting up, he stretched, grimacing as his back popped - a symptom of sleeping on the ground, and against a stone. Scratching his chest, he stood, wobbly enough, before he gained his legs and was awake more fully.

He looked about the camp, noting Wish and Spectre, as well as Moon were awake already. He wandered the camp idly, in an attempt to wake himself and get his bearings again, before stretching again with a yawn.

"Morning," he fixed his daiklaives into his belt, and adjusted his jacket, "So, whats our plan for today..?"

Just as Moon was about to say something to the pair, she noticed movement in another part of the camp and found herself watching Whisper get up and stretch his legs. Guess this means we will be getting ready to head out soon.., Moon postulated before deciding to triple check her things and placing her weapons back on her person.

The morning is fine although a cold breeze permeates the air, and rays of the Daystar are still bursting over the horizon in a scarlet corona, dancing off the clumps of remaining snow.

The track winds around the landscape, but encounters no major obstacles. But after you have walked for about an hour, up ahead (200 yards or so), you see a moving caravan, surrounded by people, and dragging what seems to be a large metal cage behind it.

It seemed the plan to find a more secure spot to camp would have to be put on hold. Wish slowed her pace considerably, glancing back at her companions.

"I don't like the looks of this..."

What sort of caravan would be dragging such a cage? Beast traders? Slave takers? She sincerely doubted this caravan had innocent intentions.

Wish slid a hand over her brow to block the sun and studied them carefully before she made any reckless decisions.

Just looking for anything blatantly obvious, I suppose. Having someone else join in the examination - someone with a Perception+Awareness pool of more than 1 - cant hurt.

Halting as Wish does, Spectre checks that his armour and the blade of his enormous sword are both covered by cloak and tied fabric respectively before he casts his gaze at the approaching caravan, the inhumanely accurate sight of the Abyssal seeking out every possible details that might give him clues as to the purpose of the caravan...And expecially the large cage dragged behind it. He is ready for combat as always, but perhaps it is prudent to try to glean a bit more about the approaching caravan before starting indiscriminate slaughtering.

We really need to decide if we are going to speak in past or present tenses, and settle for one. This is getting confusing :smalltongue:

"Jackals," Wish hissed, baring her teeth. Here? So deep in Serrat? She was used to running into them from time to time near the satrapies' borders, where they might find more prey and enjoy the Realm's (often grudging) protection, but what could bring them here, where everyone was a slave already and none had the courage to run?

No matter - if they were here at all, she had a job to do.

"Anyone with no taste for bloodshed is welcome to remain here," Wish said as she began towards them at a brisk pace. She couldn't imagine Spectre remaining behind after that implicit invitation, but she wasn't sure about some of the oth-

Wait a minute - where did Dream disappear to? ...No time to worry about it now.

She approached the caravan with walking stick in hand and a false smile on her face. "Ho there, fellow travelers," she called out in High Realm, doing a moderately good job of keeping the sarcasm out of her voice. "Fine day, is it not?"

Wish plans to use the veil of friendliness to get as close as they will allow before attacking - unless they somehow manage to convince her not to, unlikely as it may be.

Seeing that the caravan were most likely slavers to the man, Spectre did not hesitate to follow Wish as she strode onward, his covered blade held casually on his shoulder. Although his appereance is not really one to provoke trust, perhaps these Jackals would at least refrain from attacking right away... A mistake that would cost them dearly. Though by this point anything barring very quick escape would be bound to end in good deal of pain for them. Spectre really did not like slavers. Not one bit.

Standing silently behind Wish as she spoke, he readied himself for inevitable combat. Sometimes one could really do creation a favour by killing... Expecially when ones that needed killing were as vile as his current targets.

Rolling Join Battle as well just in case it is needed.

Why would anyone need a large metal ca-, Moon pondered mentally while eying this sight before realizing what she was looking at, Unless..These are the Jackals...Hunters of slaves and free people alike?

Sighing, Moon half turned to speak to the others when Wish spoke up,"Anyone with no taste for bloodshed is welcome to remain here." and walked towards the group of Jackals. This..might become interesting.., Moon postulated before noticing Spectre following Wish and again sighing, Ah hell...

Moon double checked her equipment before setting off on a brisk walk to catch up to Spectre and Wish, the latter whom Moon decided to let do the talking.

The Lunar watched as the others headed down towards the caravan, confused, "What? Bloodshed?" He jogged to catch up with the others, utterly lost as to why they'd spill the blood of innocent people.

"Perhaps instead of simply just killing these people, you could let me talk to them first? Find out if there's some misunderstanding?" Whisper tried to reason with Wish, making it clear he simply didn't want to go about the countryside reaffirming what others might think of them, after having been at the village shortly before disaster struck.

Stopping a few feet behind Wish, as she stopped to talk to the men, he sighed, knowing that she might not give to reason.

He sighs for a moment, before catching sight of the leader taking a swing at Wish, and immediately, something somewhere clicked. He growled, and his caste symbol shone heavily on his forehead as the Lunar's form bulged, and shifted, growing in size until he towered over the man. The swirling, intertwining silver forms that built up his moonsilver tattoos burnt just as brightly as his Caste symbol. In a moment, it was clear that he was no escaped slave - not just a future roadside casualty. But that he was a Lunar, and was to be feared.

"I will make you regret your actions, tiny man." He seethed through his sharpened fangs, his clawed hands flexing as his half-wolf form rippled and moved forward towards Wish and the bandit.

In the corner of her mind, Wish noted Whisper's ferocious response to the attack against her. So, he had the usual Lunar mile-wide protective streak, did he? She hoped that it wouldn't get him killed.

With a single hummed note, resonating with Essence, Wish's massive sword was called forth from Elsewhere and set over her shoulder.

"I wish your soul a peaceful journey to Lethe. That is all the mercy I have for you today." Without a moment's notice, she lunged forward with an overhead chop.

Whisper wastes no time, closing the gap between himself and Wish, as his blades fly from his sides, spinning in his claws as the wicked moonsilver weapons fly out once, and then twice, in a blinding series of strikes. A single swing swiftly turns into a second, while the second - now third continues to cut at his flesh. The silver gleams in the air for only a moment, almost without sound as his slashes through his opponent, giving him no quarter, no mercy. As he does so, the flare of sickening violet and silver burns brighter, burning bright, even in the morning sun. The air becomes heavy with moisture just be standing nearby Whisper, and where his blades slice, the dampness clings and droplets of water form.

It is only a moment before Whisper has set himself upon the leader, his fangs bared, and growling wickedly as he presses down on the much smaller man before him. He knows that he is above such feelings, but seeing the efforts of these men, or rather honourless dogs that try to pass as men, to kill him make him slightly contemtuous. For now, he had more urgent matters to think about than trying to chase after the fleeing jackals.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The cage is filled with about half a dozen bedraggled unfortunates in ragged clothing, who look like they haveen't had a meal in weeks. Their eyes are broken and downtrodden, it is clear that they've simply accepted their fate.
However, one of the prisoners stands out. He sits alone in a corner of the cage, seperate from the others. His clothes are fine, if scuffed from the stay in the cage, and his chin is clean-shaven. He raises his head as the Circle approaches. H-help me... please. I was at an i-inn, and they took me, they said I was a s-slave. This wasn't part of the plan, Leonard said I would be s-safe. He take a deep breath, before devolving into a spluttering cough. As he looks up, his eyes meet Spectre's, and dilate suddenly. You! But since new threat has come up, I will give you once chance and one chance only to tell us what you know of your new supplier."

Grabbing one of the bars with his gauntleted fist, Spectre shakes it slightly, causing the whole cage to creak and shift somewhat. "So. Tell us what you know, and your life will be yours again. Right now it is mine, and I am quite inclined to sending your spirit right into oblivion to get rid of you if that is what it takes... But since it might scare the good people there with you, I am offering you this chance. Act fast, the offer is for limited time."

Here, look I, er, I h-have, I have, er... here! he rifles through his pockets desperately, like a man possessed, before triumphantly producing a bunch of scrawled notes and letters. The majority of the notes are simply scattered ramblings, incomprehensible without context, but three pieces seem to stand out as useful.

The first one seems to be a letter to the Master, no name is given, signed by the familiar seal of the Deathlord. The letter reads:

We are pleased with the progress on The Project. Work has accelerated past our projections, and we shall be able to finished shortly. The endgame is fast approaching.

Due to this acceleration, we shall be making our move on Thorns earlier than expected. The batches of drugs should reach them in a week or two, make sure everything's ready by then.

My Lieutenant has been dispatched to Whitewall to make the preparations. He'll make contact with our operatives there, and we shall move forward.

I have sent some men in my employ to... escort you our facilities. There your needs will be... taken care of.

The second sheet appears to be the Master's scrawled notes about his project:

Damn. Progress has stalled on the project. We've hit a dead end, we can't find a suitable host for the process, all our current subjects have rejected the assimilation, and they generally find the process fatal. I'm not sure what's wrong. All our calculations are right, I'm sure. But there's just something we're missing, something vital.

I haven't told Him yet, I'm pretty sure he still thinks the process is running smoothly. I just hope to the Dragons that we get moving again before he realises. I can't imagine what he'd do.

The third piece is a sketched a schematic for some sort of artifact. It appears to be some sort of gigantic soulsteel coffin. On its lid, a drawn pentacle. The purpose is not stated in the schematic.

Reading over the contents at first with a quick glance, then once more slowly Moon postulates in her native foresttongue,"Well, that further proves a deathlord is behind this...", before pausing to ponder mentally about this newest development. So..they have an "lieutenant" in whitewall...and a batch of these drugs being sent to Thorns in two weeks.., Moon thought to herself before turning back to the others.

"Spectre..Whisper..", Moon called out to the groups resident deathknight before continuing,"When your finished freeing them..I have some new developments for us...and a few questions for our "friend" in the cage there.". Moon sighed and took a mental note, Hopefully we can stop them before its too late this time.

Listening to Moon, the deathknight nods and punches the lock with his gauntleted palm, breaking it loose from the cage itself. Picking the useless locking mechanism off, tossing it casually aside and opening the cage door, Spectre steps bit away from the cage to give the captured people enough courage to flee. Fixing the slave master with his crimson gaze, Spectre motions with his hand. "You all are free to leave... Except for you. We will be needing your presence some still" he says to the slavemaster.

Speaking to Moon over his shoulder, Spectre plants the tip of his grand daiklave against the ground. "Could you perhaps read the letters and notes aloud? I would be interested in knowing what is in them as well."

The slaves cautiously walk to their freedom, as if faced with a path they'd never before considered. Their own one.

The Master flinches as Spectre singles him out and, fearing for his life, he makes a break for it. Sprinting away as fast as his legs could carry him, given extra speed by the terror he flees from.

Not even fully paying attention to the slavemaster's attempted escape, Spectre draws a knife from the belt going around his shoulder, spinning it around in his grip before throwing it towards the fleeing man. He does not aim to kill the slaver... not yet. Still, the hit to the feet should be quite enough to stop the flight of the bastard.

"I think I said you will stay. Try that again and I will aim for more vulnerable area", he says to the master while walking towards him, ready to drag him back if he tries to resist.

Throwing the master down to the ground against the now-empty cage, Spectre leans on his grand daiklave. "Well, think of it this way. If I cannot get anything out of you, I will give you to him just to get revenge on all those people you took advantage of. You cannot escape me, you coyote... I will follow you to the gates of heaven itself and drag you to him if needs must if I will not get what I want. On the other hand, if you tell us what we will need to know, I will kill you quickly and cleanly: you will not even feel pain. I will also deliver word of your demise to any loved ones your will specify... And when dead, you cannot be caught by him."

Sounding actually somewhat warmer now, Spectre continues. "You have lived a terrible life, at least as of late... But if you will pass to Lethe, you will be returned to Creation anew in form of new life. If you will be caught by deathlord you so fear, your soul will never find the respite of death or possibility of fresh start... It will linger in tortured existence as his personal toy to torture from here to eternity. If that is not a fate you wish upon yourself, I suggest taking my offer."

Stepping past Spectre's side, Moon positioned herself between him and the "Master" before eying the latter with disdain and holding up the letters in her right hand. "Who is this lieutenant he speaks of?What are the effects of the drugs and what is this schematic supposed to be???!!"

The Lieutenant, is known as The Hollow Manikin. He's an Exalted servant of the Lord. He's been working on development of the Project with us, and I can tell you, I'm glad I won't be spending any more time with him. He makes my blood run cold.

The drugs are toxic. They make the inhaler obey any order given to them to the best of their ability. After about a week it kills them, and then raises them the next day as enslaved monsters.

The schematics? I-I honestly don't know what it's for. The Lord's been trying to get us to use it to re-animate dead Demons, but I don't think that's its purpose. It doesn't work though, all it does is created these... these monsters with cold, cold eyes. It's horrible.

That's all I know, I swear!

This..just keeps getting...worse and worse., Moon thought as she heard the "Master" reveal his knowledge. Crossing her arms and closing her eyes to quickly think about this new revelation meant, Moon decided to at least start at the begining. Opening her eyes slowly, Moon pondered out loud,"Hollow Manikin you say..", Moon paused to look at Spectre before continuing, "Does this person sound familiar?"

"No... But I am sure we will run to him sooner or later", Spectre replied to Moon before gently pushing her aside and placing his gauntleted hand on the shoulder of the master, pulling him to his feet and looking the man straight in his eyes. Then, to likely surprise of most involved, Spectre makes a brisk salute at the slaver, a small smile gracing his usually emotionless face. "If only I had had the courage you have now when I was on edge of my death, perhaps things would be different now... No matter that we are enemies, you are still by far more courageous than I have ever been, and I hope your new life will be a good one."

Stepping back, he allows the master to remain standing and meet his death like a man instead of a dog, waiting until he closes his eyes before grabbing his Grand Daiklave again. "Goodbye...if things would have been different, we could have been friends. But even now, I can still respect you."

Without further words, he charges forward in a flash, the great weapon swinging towards the master in blur, the strike aimed to end his life before pain could even be felt. In matters such as these, Spectre is a man of his word.

"It seems that we will need to head whereever those drugs will be heading to... Trying to assail the underworld to take fight directly to a deathlord would be suicidal effort."

Whisper stood watching silently - still in his warform, he watched the events before him and listened quietly. Something about Whitewall, and Thorns.

He cringed at the thought of returning to Whitewall. He would need a different form if they were to go there - he couldn't return as he is. There was the chance, even if slim, that someone might recognize him.

He frowned, visibly, "I'd... like to avoid Whitewall, if at all possible. But if not, I suppose we could make due..."

While you are in careful deliberation, a powerful voice comes from behind you taking you by surprise.
It is a fine morning my friends. Is it not? You seem like you could do with some assistance, an outsider's perspective perhaps?
The voice is serene and melodic, but powerful, resonant with... something. Power? No, wisdom maybe. But that's not the whole of it... something more.

The voice's source is a young traveller, walking up the road behind you. He is wrapped in a hooded cloak, though his face is visible and kind. His hand grips a long willow walking staff, though it doesn't seem he needs it.
He stops behind you and leans on it, waiting for an answer...

You are right in that we must weaken him first, so we will need information on possibilities to do that also. The road to Whitewall is pleasantly uneventful and swift, although it is a few days before you see the great temple-city's ornate walls rising out of the horizon. ahead of you. The blessed barrier pulsates with a faint chalky white, illuminating the morning mist with a mellow shine.

He himself is wrapped up in the heavy cloak, and his weapon is hidden by it's cover as well. Even if he does propably seem somewhat suspicious, no overt marks of him being a deathknight show, and that is what matters. Getting shot full of arrows is not a pleasant thought, however, so he hopes that they will not have to figfht the guards, as odd as it may seem. She is somewhat short, with short-cropped golden hair, wearing utility coveralls that marks her as a worker of some sort, but not any style local to the area that you recognize. She is looking around curiously as she walks down the path, but her gait is confident. She appears to see Spectre, and homes in on him.

As soon as you enter the city, the air is filled with countless orisons. Prayers whispered to the gods echoing and resonating throughout the city. Racing through the streets like spoken Essence. From ordinary prayers by the needy, to salutations of golden priests in Orichalcum-gilded cathedrals, the entire city hums with prayer and reverence. The city is a temple and a bastion. A bastion of hope.

But every so often a black whisper punctuates the sea of prayer. Foul mutterings of death and doom, too low to make out. But the message is clear. There is something dark in the city. The bastion is falling from within. The mutterings are tainting the orisons. Something lurks in the dark places of Whitewall. Something that will do anything it can to tear apart the hope that has been built up. An Anathema in the truest sense of the word.

The city of Whitewall is a hub of trade and urban life. A great boulevard runs from the southern gate through to the the heart of the city, lit by the pulsating glows of prayers engraved upon the walls. The street is covered with merchant establishments, bazaars, and haggling traders in canvas stalls. This is the lifeblood of the city, and is walked upon by every manner of resident at some point in the day, from ruling lord to impoverished beggars.

At the very centre of the great temple-city are the grand cathedrals that tower above it. Here, high priests preach to the masses and rule the city of the faithful. This is where the finer politics of the city is debated and discussed, and where those with great influence, and those who know most about the state of the city, are to be found.

The port district in the western part of the city is the poorest. Its streets house the wash-outs and undesirables of the city who waste away in apartments overlooking the water. However, much of the trade and cargo movement that the merchants deal in is handled here before going through to the rest of Whitewall. It is also contains countless taverns, brothels, and other places where tongues tend to be loose.

The eastern sector is largely unpopulated, being a ghost-town after a few catastrophic accidents that happened there years ago. It is made up of hundreds of empty warehouses that are left unmonitored, and is often where the shady deals and less 'honest' politics goes on.

The northern part of Whitewall is both the factory and agriculture district, where the town gets its supply of daily needs. Huge smoking factory-cathedrals create great machines, whilst also blessing food grown in prayer-powered fields around it. It is a district that the city could not live without.

Where do you go?

OOC - (Grim asked me to do a write-up of the stuff that's in Whitewall a while ago, and I did, but my internet connection cut out before I posted it, and it kept slipping my mind ever since.)

Stepping forward to look around, Moon sighs before turning back to Spectre,"Well...he never told us Where in Whitewall his sister is..and now that we are inside we will have to deal with whatever is causing the problems inside the city..and those agents..if they arent one and the same. Any ideas?"

"Not at all... I believe that we will need all the help that we can possibly get in order to stand any chance to stop what is happening here" the deathknight says in his gravelly voice, looking at Moon. "I believe that we should go to the eastern sector and port district at first. In there we should see the corruption firsthand, and should be able to gather some clues that will help us to track it down to it's source... And eliminate said source altogether. Besides, I do not think that they would take kindly to me visiting the other parts of the city... And those two locations sound like perfect place for deathlord's agents to operate out of."

The Eastern Sector of the city seems quiet at first, but as you walk through the gate into the district, you see a crime scene laid-out before your eyes. Two bloodied bodies lie in a gutter at the side of the cobbled road, and Whitewall law enforcement officials stand around talking and investigating, it seems to have been a brutal murder.

Other than the investigation, there is no one else around.

Shrugging as he watches Moon go and speak with the officials, Spectre rakes his memory for clues as to how they might detect the deadly operation being run in the city. Even if the clues thus far have not been really helpful in finding the exact location, perhaps he can recall something that he has learnt during his tenure as servant of Mask of Winters that might come in useful in their present situation.

I don't want this to die! Help me revive it!

Also, can Spectre remember Mask of Winters sending him out to foil any plots of this rival deathlord near Whitewall, or gotten any information about the workings of his operations while striking against him in the past? :smallconfused:

The investigator looks up from the body. "You probably know as much as we do. They were found this morning, there are no suspects. One of them was a merchant, used to be quite wealthy, but he lost a lot of business after a drug smuggling scandal a few years ago, and never made it back. The other is completely unknown to anyone. Do you know anything?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Kiru's perceptive eyes settle on a vague humanoid figure crouched upon the shadowy rooftops, it is perfectly still and doesn't seem to have noticed you.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Spectre remembers nothing of any missions near to Whitewall, but he does remember an encounter with one of the Black Angel's lieutenants: a stealthy Deathknight known as Shadow, he handled many of the Angel's covert dealings, and took pride in leaving no witnesses to any of his operations, through violent means if needed.

Sorry, the forums were starting to become too time-consuming for me, and it was screwing with my life where I wasn't doing any work or anything, so I decided to cut myself off entirely except for this game. But, as I haven't been logging in as much, I haven't really thought to check this thread. I've switched it to an e-mail notification now, so I should be able to be more punctual from now on.

And he may have had some dealings with this particular drug."

That certainly sounds problematic. I can't say I know of any recent rumours circulating about the merchant, you would have to find someone who was closer to him. I believe he was often seen with a few... less than reputable individuals in the Port District. If you desire to find out more about him, you might want to look there.

Grim ranger

Thoughtful and somewhat annoyed by the fact that he is not being of much help to the investigation as things are, the deathknight steps closer to the corpse, studying the site for any additional information. It may be a long shot for him to assume that he finds something the other investigators have not, but it is worth a try. If he knows Black Angel any, he is too careful to leave evidence pointing to his plots... Most of the time. No one is perfect, after all, even if deathlords would propably like to think of themselves as such.

Awareness roll... Let's see if Spectre can dig up any additional information.

Spectre's eyes catch a glimpse of the silhouetted figure on the rooftop, however it is too dark for him to be able to make out any details, it might not even be there at all.

Allowing his gaze to return to the dead bodies, Spectre gives no indication that he has noticed anything out of the ordinary... But in his mind, he is already analyzing the situation. So, they have already been noticed... Which in turn means that ambush or assassination attempt is only a matter of time. Whoever is running Angel's operation in this city is likely rather careful to cover their tracks, so dragging the smuggling ring out of their lairs is going to be rather difficult. Well, at least they seem to have one lead to follow.

"Perhaps you could instruct us on how to find said tavern then? We do not have any other leads to follow at the moment" he says in his gravelly voice, stepping away from the corpses. "It might be wild goose chase, but it is still better than nothing."

"Do not worry... I have no intention of provoking anyone. May the Sun be with you" Spectre says calmly, nodding to the investigators before beginning to walk away towards the Bloody Huntress. They may perhaps find something from there, but things can well get violent... In which case, he will have no choice but to defend himself. Speaking of which...

"Keep walking and look natural" he says calmly to Moon in very low tone to prevent anyone from hearing his words. "There is a man on the rooftops that is currently observing us, and if I am correct he works for Black Angel. If he is the agent I remember, he handles covert dealings such as this one, and leaves no witnesses if they are about to be uncovered. He should be quite skilled assassin, unless time has dulled his skills... Which I find highly unlikely due to the fact he is a deathknight."

Pausing for a moment, he allows the information to sink in before continuing quietly. "Just pretend to remain ignorant, but be ready for ambush. We will need to visit that tavern in any case, and we could never catch that man here if would would try to chase after him."

The walk through the docks is far from what one would call pleasant. Drunkards walk the streets picking fights, and thieves lurk in every alley of this coastal district. The pier is not too far a walk, and as you approach it you hear the sound of revelry from the tavern at the end of it.

The Bloody Huntress' interior is a far cry from the faith and order throughout the rest of Whitewall. Boisterous patrons cry out compliments, insults, and challenges at every moment, and the rowdy atmosphere and battered furniture suggests that more than one fight has gone down here...

What do you do?

This place is our best bet to get some information about the current situation, and for that we can endure some drunkenly disorder. Whatever you do, don't start hostilities."

Nodding at the landlady respectfully, Spectre decides to get right into the heart of the matter. He has never been known for being all that great of a conversationalist, but perhaps he would not need to be in this particular case. "Information. Not long ago, a merchant was murdered in the middle of a street not far away from here. It is likely that said merchant had dealings with some very bad men who wanted him dead. So, my question is the following."

Shifting slightly so that he can hold the grand daiklave non-threateningly over his shoulder, he continues. "What do you know about drug traffic going on in this city, and can you point us to someone who sells the deadliest drugs around?"

IcarusWings

"That would be Toren I suppose, his death wasn't unexpected. Nice guy, when he wasn't on Guild business at least, which was rare. They have the monopoly on drugs trade in this town, and Toren was their... unofficial dealer here. You can imagine that made him a fair few enemies.
