Water Orc. (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/elementalRacialVariants.htm#waterOrcs)

Dragonborn optional.

I'll agree that Water Orc is probably your best option. Dragonborn (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20060105b&page=1) will get rid of that pesky Orc Light Sensitivity, and it also gets rid of the save penalty for a Race of Water. You would keep your ability score bonuses/penalties, size, and movement modes including the swim speed. I'd go with Wings if you plan on sticking to medium armor (or get Dragonscale Husk), otherwise get Heart for the breath attack and take the feat Entangling Exhalation in Races of the Dragon.

Human

You can never have enough feats and skill points.

Broodguard. Rage=win. The +2 con and dex doesn't hurt either.

I hope this list (http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/19546874/Master_Player_Race_List_Version_2.0) helps. If not today, then for another character some day.

Dragonborn Water Orc is really where it's at in your position. Being able to fly as an Ex. ability makes you more relevant, and a +4 to Str never hurt for a fighter. Though Entangling Exhalation is quite good too.

If this is the Broodguard from Serpent Kingdoms, sorry. It carries the hefty price tag of a +2/3 LA.

Where do you see that? I'm only seeing a reference to the stats in Monsters of Faerun.

The version in Savage Species is LA 0, though.

Serpent Kingdoms page 190-191 gives racial traits for several creatures, including the Broodguard, which it puts at +3 LA. That's a more recent source than Savage Species, so it's the current version.

Handy of them to mention it when they actually discuss the Broodguard on page 18. :smallfurious:

It's the same story with the Tainted ones (LA+2, I believe). It only mentions that in the very back of the book. Way to go Wizards, eh?

Unseelie Fey? Pretty sure that's a +0 LA.

Yes; it's +1 CR and +0 LA. You'll need to negotiate with your DM as to whether you get wings that enable flight; it's listed as a percentile roll to see what you end up with.

+1 vote for human.

Dragonborn water orc, popular but composed of mozzarella and provalone. I wouldn't let one anywhere near a game I was running.

What books are allowed?

If PHB only, I personally like the half-orc better than the human. +1 th and +1 or 2 da + darkvision beats a feat and extra maxed out skill, if we are just talking "heavy hitter". Unless you are going for int-based feats, of course.

Dwarf is also a strong contender, with the extra hp and also darkvision. The movement penalty isn't so bad since you would likely be wearing medium to heavy armour, and dwarves not being slowed down by that you average out to 20' move either way. A good way to keep up with int-based feats (especially with the stability thing if you are a tripper).

That gives me an idea: Awakened Cheetah. Not 0LA though:smallfrown:

Warforged with the Adamantine Body feat. At level 1, high AC and DR 2 will keep you alive for a very long time (longer if you go Crusader instead of Fighter, but you do what you want). Compared to Dragonborn Water Orc, you're trading offense for defense.
