Fallout: New Vegas question

I'm about 70% percent done with my second playthough. On the first one, which was something of rushed job, I got fed up with the Brotherhood's murderous, arrogant bull**** and wiped them out. And it felt so very very good.

However, partly out of sympathy for Veronica and partly out of a desire to do most things differently this time around I'm wondering what my options are. Is there a way to convince the BoS to stop being such xenophobic, isolated thieving wankers, stop fighting the NCR and start working with the world at large?

Pretty much don't kill them and finish all their missions then do a certain thing that's pretty obvious when the NCR sends you on their mission related to the brotherhood.
