This may seem like a quaint sort of idea to people who are used to characters with on-demand full-fledged flight, but for those of us who play lower-level characters who aren't bird-men, abusing alter self, or Large sized half-dragons.... I was thinking about how to squeeze more use out of levitate. It's a fairly low level spell plus, the boots are fairly affordable (and give *at will* use) well before most flying items.

The most obvious way to get more out of levitate besides floating up and down is to try some kind of Matrix-style superjump.... jump and "turn off gravity" at the peak of the jump and coast across whatever chasm you were trying to leap. This kind of reasoning might also lead to more rapid vertical ascensions, if you could add the momentum of a vertical jump to the 20'/rd that levitate offers.

Is this something that might be feasible by RAW or that you would allow in your campaign, and if so in either case, how exactly would you implement it? (You "coast" at your Jump result as a speed every round, or perhaps with -5ft/rd to the speed for air resistance?)

Other than clambering along a wall/ceiling (as the spell description mentions) or just being towed by something with an explicit fly speed, how else would you manage horizontal movement while levitating? Natural wind/affected wind/gust of wind + big cloak? Unseen servant? Throwing pieces of carried equipment in the opposite direction of the way you want to go? :smallwink:
