Total war

This is the total War 5 minutes into the Future IC thread. This post will be updated for statistics and rules updates as they occur. The game begins with the second post describing the events.


Stats Explaination


Military stats

Army
- Represents ground forces, needed for controlling and defending territories, though generally not tactically as flexible as others. May be used as military police.

Navy
- Represents your water based fleets.

Air
- Represents air based forces, from airoplanes to hover vehicles.

Space
- Represents your space based forces.

Social Stats

Economy
- Represents your governments directly taxable and usable assets. (the quantity being related to the GPD)

Espionage
- Your sneakyness stat.

One agent must be used per turn to have the ability to read anothers spoilered messages (counted as infiltrating their espionage networks) if these are not adressed to you (which are counted as hidden). This MUST be meantioned in a GM spoiler (see below) This also means that it could be discovered that you are spying on someone.

The quality part is still important for deciding whom can read whose spoilers (basically: you can only read others spoilers if you have a greater espionage value AND have spend an agent to do so).

(note: spending an agent allows you to read all spoilers of that turn of that player/nation, even if they were written before you send the agent, you may not however read other spoilers from previous turns)



Civilians
- Represents your population with quality being a measure of their happyness as well as education and productivity.

Prestige
- Prestige is your ability to influence others populations, though it will depend on your actions whether people generally fear you or love you. As with all reputations, what takes years to build can be destroyed in seconds.

For the past year political boundaries had shifted as the impending apocalypse threatened to destroy humanity. The United States and the European Union have both fractured, African and the Middle Eastern stated collapsed in civil wars as military coups occurred and tribal differences flared up. In the Far East nations have fared better and remained intact, though they are struggling to maintain control. In the midst of this South America is on the verge of a continent wide war. Now with the comet trailing on scientist are working round the clock on two things, predicting where it will hit and seeking an answer to it.

Iran – Pakistan
Iranian forces have been spotted entering the collapsing Pakistani state. As of yet no statement has come from its government.

(this means that you need ++ quality espionage and 1 unit of agents to read this, that unit cannot be used for other actions this turn, though you may continue to read all further updates on this for the remaining turn, please add a phrase in you GM spoiler saying something like “1 agent: spying on Iran” Keep in mind that you do not need any agents for keeping you own spoilers secret (essentially the first defensive agent is free), but if you want people to have to spend more agents on specific messages you can spend more agents (and make note of that in a GM spoiler). Remember that agents are not necessarily lost, they merely cannot be used again until the turn ends.
Irans forces are heading straight for known Weapons of Mass destruction and Nuclear storage facilities in Pakistan.

Whitesands
Iran has offered you a contact to keep any US loyalist forces in Iraq or Afganistan from interfering with their actions.

South America
South America was facing internal difficulties, and though the two great powers of the continent, Brazil and Argentina, managed to keep their populations in line, in the north old feuds flared up as Columbia and Venezuela declared war upon another. Soon the war spread as Mexico and central American states joined with the Colombians, whereas the new Brazilian President “Juan de Parana” openly provided assistance to Venezuela hoping to secure it’s vital oil resources. The remaining states are yet to take sides, though they are mobilizing their armies and are likely to join soon as resources run out.

Fantasmas (this uses their espionage values)
Mexico has recently been pulling its forces back north preparing to reclaim its northern provinces. Agents have however recovered plans that they have no intention of stopping at your borders and see the Texan oil fields as an excellent source of resources.


Mongolia - China

The Mongolian horde is on the move and has entered North Western China. Already local govern officials have capitulated several minor border towns, though the Chinese army in the region has not yet suffered from more than skirmishes as the horde is avoiding mayor concentrations of forces.

European Federation

The European federation has openly announced an alliance with France. They are also openly mobilizing their armed forces and sending them to the EU border claiming they do not have any confidence in the ‘Turkish led dictatorship’ it represents.

England, Ireland and Scandinavia
The EF has offered you too become part of this alliance, which is defensive in nature.

Russia

Sentiments in Siberia are rapidly changing as the people believe the government is doing too little to help them. Feeling close to the Mongolian horde some of the population are taking up arms and creating militia’s that actively attack officials of the central government.

Indonesia

Indonesian fleets have been spotted in the Timor Sea by White sands, the information quickly leaking towards global news media that are reporting on 'Wall of Ships' that seems to be steaming to Darwin. Indonesian ministers have immediately gone on live television and claim it is merely a 'defense exercise'.

TROKK troop movements are up, as training continues to fill the ranks of their military as citizens from the former USA continue to travel north. Communications are sent to both of TROKK's closest neighbors by way of diplomatic convoy (as a sign of faith).

Canada:
As you may well know, our meager forces are amassed along the shared border between your country and ours. This is not an act of war. REPEAT: This is not an act of war. TROKK forces will be passing through your territories, both land and sea as per our agreement. Travel will be by night so to limit exposure to your citizenry. The objective of this excursion is top secret, but the technology we will acquire will benefit the entire world.

Russia:
Operation: Soaring Endeavor is a GO. T-minus 48 hours. Per arrangement, protection of TROKK sea lanes are in your hands for the duration.

Actions:
TROKK's navy (all three ships!) and a large contingent of ground and air forces head for the Former U.S.A., destination: to take control of Naval Base Kitsap (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_Base_Kitsap) in Washington State. Objective: temporary occupation and information retrieval, specifically the Navy's Rail Gun technology.

At home, the remaining military forces continue to work on adapting oil digging rigs to dig underground vaults in the Alaskan Mountains.

News Reports:
Russian Troops Pull back from Mongolian Border:
In a stunning move, Marshall of the Russian Federation Nikolai Makarov today announced that Russian troops would be "strategically redeployed" away from the Mongolian border, leaving the sparsely populated region entirely. "It is clear that unrest in our East Asian neighbors is a severe threat to the peace of the Russian Federation", stated Makarov, "so we have chosen to reposition our forces in that region to better protect the people and economic assets threatened by this instability." This move leaves dozens of small Russian villages and towns unprotected from the new Mongol Horde, and has been harshly criticized by Ivan Nicolov, head of the Communist party, as "a defeatist abandonment of the Russian people".

Russian Pacific Fleet to Engage in Training Mission:
The Russian Pacific fleet stationed at Vladivostok left their docks at the easternmost major Russian port, for a 3-month training expedition in the North Atlantic. "It is important that we continue to maintain a high state of readiness, especially in these dangerous times." Said Vice Admiral Sidenko earlier this week. It is expected that the Fleet will spend the majority of the mission's duration sailing from the Bering Strait south along a common Cold-War era patrol route...
TROKK:
The Pacific Fleet will hold station near the coast of the United States until you're in the clear. While we have powerful ship-to-ship elements, we have no effective ability to project force beyond the ocean short of nuclear strikes, so you can't expect any help from us in the ground campaign. We appreciate the work you're doing for the good of the World.
Russian Army Deployed to Enforce Martial Law in Siberia:
The Russian 17th Guards Rifle Division is to depart its barracks in Novosibirsk monday, to be redeployed across Siberia in the capacity of military police. President Novokov stated that "The Russian Federation will not permit anarchy or defeatism within its borders. We will use whatever resources are necessary to maintain public order until the current crisis is past. The deployment of elements of the Army in Siberia is only the first part of a strategic plan dedicated to maintaining order." When asked about Russia's plans for surviving the Comet, Novikov replied that "I cannot properly answer that question at this time as many of the details of our current initiatives are classified. However, you can expect a more satisfying answer in the near future."

Nordic Commonwealth:
We are currently engaged in an operation with TROKK to secure technology of extreme value to the Starfall Initiative. If this operation is successful, it could return the project to its initial planned time frame. In the mean time, we reccomend that you continue agreed-upon preparations for the construction of the primary warhead delivery system.

-Russian troops are pulling back from the Mongolian border in Siberia and concentrating on heavily fortifying the area around Irktusk, as well as other small cities in the region and major mines, freshwater sources and oil fields. -I'm beginning deployment of additional Army forces to maintain Martial Law in western and central Siberia. We're going to oppress those civilians as hard as we need to until Starfall can be officially announced.
-The Pacific Fleet is to hold station off the coast of the United States, in international waters, for the duration of TROKK's operations in Washington. We're there to hold the fort only, and will only engage in hostile operations in the event of a naval force attacking the Alaskan mainland.

-Construction of the four nuclear reactors intended to power the central Cannon Array 600 kilometers east of Moskow is to be considered absolutely top priority. Any and all resources required for the project are to be diverted from wherever they are available. Those power plants are needed ASAP. We're also beginning to assemble parts for the Hypervelocity cannons to be used in the Starfall Initiative (the plan I detailed in my application post). While designs won't be finalized until after the operation in Washington, we're gathering as many necessary raw materials as possible at future cannon sites to make sure that construction is as fast and efficient as possible.

The EU is enforcing a blockade of the Hellenic Republic, both ground and sea.

The government has so far refrained from nationalizing industry and censoring media.

A large drive to recruit more soldiers for military is in effect.

A new law was passed, that any protests must obtain a permit first and adhere to rules, that will prevent them from spiraling into chaos and disorder. The EU has announced willingness to deploy troops to keep order, if necessary.

A New Deal

The meeting between leaders of business and industry as well as media is held in Vienna. The EU Commissioner Wissler speaks:

''In this time, many nations have resorted to nationalization, dictatorial governance and other extreme measures. Some think this is the path EU is taking with admittance of Turkey. Well, I want to reassure you and hope, that you will reassure the public, that EU is a democratic institution, dedicated to the principles of private property. We won't beat our own citizens and we won't steal from them.

However, these are times of great difficulty and we must be firm, decisive and united in our effort to protect ourselves, our families and our nation. I ask of you to provide full cooperation to the government. This isn't time to make profit. This isn't time to shirk from responsibility. This is time to survive.

I expect, that this will hit hard their (+) Economy, if I keep up the Blockade. Greek's fabled shipping fleet would certainly be rendered useless. No tourism. No exports/imports.


Secret GM Orders Beta (Esp. 1)

(5) Military are training and assisting new recruits in Turkey.
I'm using conflict with Hellenic Republic to make people fear for new invasion from other nations, as situation grows desperate. Better to meet the invaders with a rifle, then watch them burn your home and kill your family, type of recruitment propaganda.

I'm also developing new military doctrine for the post-Comet warfare. This will be an ongoing effort, as my scientists provide more data on the effects of comet strike and capabilities of other nations.

The Military Industrial Complex is getting huge paychecks to keep churning our weapons of death, both fur current needs and those best suited for PCMD (Post-Comet Military Doctrine).

Agricultural sector is receiving a boost. There is a major investment effort into Balkans agrarian sector, which before suffered due to low demand and lack of funding. Large quantities of fertilizer, seeds, breeding farm animals and machinery are being designated for storage in the bunkers.

At this stage the Bunkers are still in planning stage. I want them to be large (Chinese large). Apart from housing people they would contain four more components, which I will reveal later.

EU-Greece

Trouble is stirring in the Aegean seas as Turkish and Italian ships are actively blockading the Hellenic republic preventing greek ships from exiting their territorial waters. No shots have been fired, but the sighting of Land forces near the straights of Marmara and along the Hellenic border in the north indicate that soon all roads will be closed as well. It seems byzantium is once again under Ottoman siege.

Now we go live to Athens where our correspondents have just seen Greek fighters scrambling to intercept what might be a Turkish or Italian violation of Hellenic airspace...

California

The Californian Republic was shocked today as TROKK ships sailed were spotted sailing to Kitsap naval base in Washington State. Warning shots were ignored and several Californian frigates hace sailed out to intercept the flottila. No thought had however been given to an actual conflict thus catching the Californians by surprise when TROKK ground forces entered the base and overcame the small garison of marines stationed there.

Currently TROKK is in controll of most of the base, though sufficient Californian ships have left harbor and have started shelling the entrenched TROKK forces.

Russia, TROKK
A sizable (4) CR fleet is facing you and more are probably sailing out to meet you. It appears the CR is mostly interested in reclaiming the base, though Russian radar systems have spotted californian jets scambling over the pacific (4).

Russia
Prozjec Tsar Reactora is in it's design phase. Analists think that making reactors the old fashion way (tsjernobyl style) will be faster and deliver more power, but at a risk.

From a refugee camp in Turkey, Ferhime Caplan reporting:

''It hasn't been a year, since the Greek forces have invaded Turkey and exiled the native population. When this temporary camp was constructed, none of the refugees thought they would stay here long. Now, despite the government relocating more than half of the people to permanent housing, 40,000 people still remain without roof and employment.

The recent news about the Hellenic Republic's army movements have caused a stir. There are rumors circulating, that the military will be forced to move the camp further inland, as it lies too close to a possible way the Hellenic troops could use, if they invade Turkey once more.

''He just wanted to find our parents. They got put on a different truck, when the Greeks were rounding us up. Many people are missing their relatives. They say Hellenics forced old and children to march on foot to conserve fuel and shot anybody, who fell out of line.''

In another interview about the possibility of Hellenic Republic's aggression against EU, the Chief of Staff has commented. ''You know the second name of the Hellenic Republic is New Byzantium? That pretty much spells their intentions. If it weren't for us, there'd be Hellenic tanks rolling through the rest of Balkans and Middle East.''

Eastern Thrace has been returned to Greek control, as it should have been. The Balkan states requested our protection, we have no designs on other Balkan states, or on the rest of Turkey. Cyprus remains partially under Turkish control, and our polls indicate that many Greek Cypriots would support cessation to Greece, and the removal of Turkish presence. As for this 'New Byzantium' nonsense? Simple mud-slinging. We have not, and will never call ourselves by that name. We are Greece. The Hellenic Republic."

"We treated the deported Turks with nothing but courtesy. Most were safely escorted across the border with the maximum comfort we could provide. Anyone who may say otherwise? I suggest you check their sources."

To EU
We cannot afford such reparations with our Economy as it is. We will be bled white by paying you, or by your blockade, either way.Additionally, we request the removal of Turkish presence in Cyprus, and the cessation to Cyprus to Greek control.

To EF, England, Ireland
The blockade placed upon by the so-called EU is unjust, and may force our already weak economy into collapse, leaving us unable to provide for our own citizens. We request your assistance in resolving the matter. When the blockade is removed, we would be willing to sign free trade deals.

4 Army to be moved to Border with the EU, 3 to be moved to the Turkish border. They should be digging in as much as possible. If possible, redundant lines of defense should be created, and lines of retreat be held.

What I said previously for the nukes. Target all Mongolian forces still in Mongolia as well as their industrial and population centers. Sparing the oil pipelines if possible.

Just how large is the horde, because there are two options I'm considering assuming they reject my offer of peace, which I expect they will. If the horde is greater than 10 and concentrated in one place I will withdraw my forces and simply nuke the lot of them while they're still in the Chinese hinterlands and not near anything vital.

On the other hand if they're spread out then I'll do this. 15 army will form a cordon to prevent the Mongolian horde from penetrating any farther. Another 10 will form a strike force and start smashing through the Mongolian groups one by one. Even if their troops are superior they shouldn't have enough numbers to stand up to that if they're spread out. If they do concentrate enough to stand up to the strike force I will withdraw it and switch to the first plan assuming they haven't gotten close to anything valuable.

On the air front the Mongolians probably won't be able to put up much of a fight with their airfields destroyed, but if they do have anything up there I want 8 air sweeping the sky. Once it's clear they can start assisting the ground strike force in dealing with the horde.

The remaining ground forces (5) will be guarding industrial facilities closest to the horde.

I'm also arming another 50 civilians as a militia and throwing them at the horde if they break through my military lines. I don't expect them to be effective, but hopefully they'll slow them down. Honestly I don't want to lose them, but I need my economy safe from looting more than I need warm bodies at this point.

The overall goal of all of this is to crush the horde before it reaches anything vital regardless of the consequences. I've only got a year to prepare so I can't afford to lose anything which is likely if the horde manages to reach a major city or industrial complex. All the people of china should be informed of this and hopefully understand why I'm being so aggressive.

Chinese Mushrooms

Mongolia is now more of a wasteland as hundreds of thousands of it's civilians were subjected to a Chinese nuclear bombardment. Even the horde that was close to chinese troops has suffered from the bombardment, though it seems that the chinese divisions nearby the bombardment have also been demoralised and effectively neutralised. The horde however seems furious further collapsing chinese resistance in the north west and is pressing the attack. Still underway are further chinese forces. Nuclear fallout is expected to render large area's of the plains and parts of Siberia uninhabitable.

More chinese forces are mobilising towards the region, though the mongolians still hold numerical superiorty in the area and it's unlikely the entrenched chinese will hold for long.

The Balkan states were in a state of chaos and somebody had to step in to bring order. We don't accuse Hellenic Republic of invading Balkans, since their actions were the same as ours in that regard. The Turkish Thrace invasion is very different matter.

First, it wasn't motivated by desire to bring order and safety to the population, since they ended up deporting our people. Second, while Turkey was in the state of civil war at the time, it wasn't in the state of chaos and anarchy. Therefore it wasn't an operation to bring peace, but a grab for land and power, during our moment of weakness.

1. High prestige does not mean they are liked, just means people will listen to them because they are either well respected or feared (usually being succesfull is good for prestige). For instance China just gained prestige for nuking people.

2. True, but it is also known that the turkish airforce lacks NATO nuclear certification (meaning they lack planes capable of carryiong and delivering nuclear payloads). Codes are also in the US, probably with GASI in washington DC. How you solve this is up to you. (remember the greeks don't know that you haven't cracked the codes and bought the right planes)

Taking over Veritas Holdings. Surprise raids on their bases, I want that huge pile of cash. That superb quality of my troops should help in here too. As stated: surprise raids. Launch them all at the same time, if possible. I don't want that some of them are prepared for it. When I control some of their bases, the corporation should have some problems with their business... All forces expect the ones in Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan or Iran are available for this operation (if A LOT of my troops are in there, the ones in Afghanistan and Iraq can be used too). Take over the biggest bases they have, and deploy some troops in them so I can actually hold them. Steal all the cash that is found. Of course, all the leaders of the corporation are offered a few options: they will continue to work for Veritas, but in secret they will do just what I tell them to. Other option is to get shot.

Recruiting new employees is made a priority. Using all the 'excess' cash for this project. There should be a lot of potential employess with all the governments collapsed and everything. Maintain the high quality, though!

Australia has announced a defensive alliance between them, the Pacific Alliance and Japan.

Australian government has stated that they will be constructing underground bunkers to save people from the meteor. Australian, Pacific Alliance and Japanese citizens are given priority. Anyone who offers us usable materials, equipment and other resources for the project (economy) will be given a spot, private citizens or larger initiatives alike. Australia will also be willing to take in a large number of immigrants who wish to join the workforce and construct shelters for themselves and their families.

The Australian aerial and naval forces are gathering near Darwin for a "defensive exercise".

To Indonesia:
Defensive exercises aside, would you be interested in joining our coalition? We're all here to save humankind, after all. If you help us construct your shelters, you will be given space in them.

To EU and Hellenic Republic:
We are willing to mediate. After all, the last thing the world needs in the current situation is more warfare that could be avoided.

We agree that the conquest of Eastern Thrace was unlawful - however, the laws and rules of the international community have sadly, though understandably, been breaking down lately. The deed is done, and any attempts to reverse it would just lead to more trouble. If the Hellenic Republic agrees to fund the resettlement of the deported citizens as per the EU's demands, we should consider that matter settled, at least until post-Impact.

However, we believe that the blockade of the Hellenic Republic is harmful for the negotiations, as it simply causes more suffering mainly to the civilian population. Peace should be achieved through discussion, and forceful pressure reserved for after the negotiations have broken down irredeemably.

Of course. All our designs and developments will be freely available over the Internet. If they help save lives even in places we cannot reach, all the better.

The Vaults
1: Beginning construction. Everywhere. What we want is:
*The bunkers themselves. Prioritize space over security over comfort.
*Water, food and medical care for the bunkers. Preferrably underground farms if possible, buy lots of preservatives, anything really. Huge tanks of reserve water, water purifiers and efficient water-systems in the bunkers.
*Communication lines between the bunkers.
*Nuclear power plants in locations safe from floods, preferrably underground. Australia has a ton of uranium, and we're digging holes in the ground anyway. The problem will most likely be finding water to cool them when they aren't on the coasts - that's a problem for my engineers to solve. Prioritize reasonable safety over capacity over cost.
2: We'll hopefully have plenty of money for the project. Money is used to purchase resources, as quickly as possible before the prices soar sky-high. Machinery, materials, such stuff. People and governments who give us resources will be given Vault spots, proportionately. Yes, I know this means all the dictatorships will save their governments and not their people, no, there's nothing I can do about that. Rich people can install comforts in their Vault spots if they wish, with their own cash and resources, as long as it doesn't endanger the safety of the Vault or waste water/food stocks.
3: If we have an abundance of money/resources and a shortage of workforce, we'll begin taking in (qualified) workers who want to flee their nations but don't have the money for a Vault spot. They get a spot in exchange for constructing the bunkers. Hopefully this will allow us to more-or-less optimize the amount of resources and manpower to get the best possible results.
4: Vault technological advances made by Australians are shared freely over the Internet. Maybe other people will start competing with us but our price is just the cost of construction and we've already started with a large-scale project so I don't foresee that big of a problem. Especially since it's not a problem if people save themselves, it's a good thing.
5: Australian scientists and engineers are cooperating with Japan, Pacific Alliance, possibly Nordic Commonwealth, China, EU and any other nation that wishes to help to figure out the fastest, most effective and most practical solutions for the Vaults. They are meant as temporary disaster shelters, so we don't need to be able to live in there for generations.
6: For refugees and people who cannot be built underground shelters for, for one reason or another, we'll build inland housing safe from floods and the like.
7: What infrastructure and industry we can, we'll try to shield from the effects of the meteor. This is not a priority. Priority is saving lives.

Normal Orders
OK no more nukes for now. If I use anymore I risk damaging myself, and besides I need them for other plan.

Instead conventional forces will be used. Reinforce the entrenched Chinese troops that are already engaged with whatever forces are closest. I want them to hold on for as long as possible to give the rest of my army time to prepare.

Behind them the majority of my forces will start fortifying specific points. I can't stop the horde everywhere there is simply too many points to cover, but I know they're going to be after certain things. With their supply lines cut they'll be needing ammo and fuel. So I'm going to fortify my supply dumps. I'm also going to fortify major industrial centers as those are also likely targets.

Population centers will be unfortified, but I'll direct 15 econ to start arming the 50 civilians already mobilized as welling supplying construction equipment to help in fortification. Light weapons only though, I don't want the Mongolians getting resupplied if they overrun the militia. The civilians will also be put to work doing the actual fortifying while the army keeps the Mongolians off their backs.

My strategy is basically to turn this into a war of attrition. The horde is too strong for my individual forces, so I'm going to force it to wear itself away on one fortification after another. The troops have orders to destroy their equipment and the supply dumps if capture becomes imminent. Eventually the Mongolians are going to run of steam, and then I'll be able to push them back. Could I get a more detailed estimate of where exactly my forces are relative to the fighting so I can make more detailed strategies?

As a note the other 15 econ and 50 civilians I already allocated shouldn't be touched by this. I don't want work on the bunkers interrupted for anything short of the comet hitting early.

Constructions of the Arks, continues. The major focus is on trying to create functional nuclear reactors to power the Arks. Parts are cannibalized from civilain reactors above ground as necessary. If nuclear engineers are reluctant to work with the Church, their families will be taken "To secure locations for their protection."

All of the national guard armories, and gun manufacturers are seized as the Church tries to arm its populace, attempting to put a gun in every able bodied person's hands.

Higgins himself moves his base of operations to whatever Ark is currently the most well protected from attacks. At that base, they begin work on a radio transmitter capable of overpowering other broadcasts around the world and reaching as to the other side of the globe, in order to bring Higgins message to the world. The power for the transmitter will come from the nuclear reactor as soon as it's completed.

Troops are moved as quickly and quietly as possible to through enemy territory to withing striking distance of all the major Nuclear Weapon Facilities in the US. Once the troops are in place, the facilities will be stormed simultaneously, using force of numbers to take them no mater how high the casualty count becomes.

As we have stated before the preservation of our people is of paramount importance to us. Yes the area around Mongolia both in Russia and China will likely become severely irradiated, but as the comet's impact will likely ruin much of the surface of the Earth anyway we see this as long term problem that must by necessity be abandoned in favor of short term survival. The Mongolians had to be stopped before they could threaten our preparations. And without their logistical support they now face a losing battle. And now that we have demonstrated how far we are willing to go we doubt we will need to do so again.

The reason we didn't warn Russia is two fold. First you had already abandoned the areas that might possibly be affected by the strikes and second we were under the impression that your early warning systems were sufficiently advanced to be able to determine the destination of any nuclear launches. If you believe that these answers are insufficient, then so be it. We will find other sources of trade.

OOC: If Russia continues their economic sanction it will hurt them more than China. Neither of them is the largest trading partner of the other, but China makes up a larger percentage of Russia's trade than Russia does of China's. Also the oil imports are actually in payment for loans made to Russian oil companies by China. So ending them will essentially make Russia default on it's loans. Which admittedly Russia might not care about right now, but it will make future foreign investors a bit leery if we all survive this.

This is perfectly acceptable. We are quite capable of defending ourselves on land and our naval forces are unused at the moment. We would be happy to accept technical assistance as well as provide our own in fields where we excel. However our bunker designs will likely be too different for much assistance to be useful either way.

As fighting continues the Horde easily break the weak Chinese lines and steams on to the Chinese fortified positions that are being brought up in the area. Most of Xianjiang and Gansu are in mongolian hands, though pockets of resistance remain from those Chinese that managed to throw up effective fortifications in time before the Mongolians came. Also deeper in Chinese held territory the Mongolians seem to find the new Chinese approach difficult to counter, slowing their advance.

Still your forces are pouring in from all over china. Some are fighting, and a quarter is deployed nearby (within several days of the Mongolians), though the rest wont be for several weeks or months.

Factories are retooling for the smallarms production, though keep in mind that just because you will give small arms to many people doesn't mean they will use them. Also keep in mind that you cannot 'order half a billion people', it's more something that's factored into the ease of recruiting soldiers or the ease of completing mega projects etc...

Already the Chinese nuclear bombardment is starting to cause large portions of northern china and Siberia to suffer from fall out. Dark clouds block the skies over the Mongolian plains and Prevailing winds take the particles east, spreading them to China's densely populated north east and as far as Russian Vladivostok. North Korea is remaining quiet about effects, though measurements in Seoul show slightly elevated radioactivity.

With clouds of particles still in the Stratosphere people from around the Northern Hemisphere fear the effects on their crops and livelihoods.

Evidently moving by night and using civilian vehicles whenever possible did not fully disguise troops from the Church of the Apocalypse as they struck out into Hood and GASI territory. Still once their objectives became clear (nuclear facilities in nearby states) Church commanders decided to push through with their mission and turn in into an all out assault on enemy territory surrounding the facilties.

The target has however not yet been archived, though most nuclear facilities in the US now see heavy fighting between Church and Hood/GASI forces. Currently in the chaos it's unclear to say who holds the launch control chambers.

As the sun never sets on a global corporate empire employees in Veritas held companies were in all sorts of daily routines when the attack begun. Some going to work, others just getting of, other fast asleep. Still the operation was ruthlessly planned and seemed to go decisively effective.

Aircraft, stealth hovercraft and even regular APC's dropped special forces of Whitesands Worldwide right into the heart of cities like New York (GASI held), London (England), Beijing (China), Los Angeles (Californian Republic), Houston (Fantasmas), Ankara (EU), Rome (EU), Amsterdam and Berlin (EF), Paris (France), Sidney (Australia), Moscow and St. Petersburg (Russia), Jakarta (indonesia), Tokio (Japan), Vancouver (Canada), Oslo and Stockhold (Nordic Commonwealth), and so on. Also in more rural and industrial places or mining operations Whitesands forces have been spotted.

Most office buildings were easy to take control over, the industrial facilities less so and fighting is still taking place. Police and fast response units called by scared managers have set up perimeters around these buildings, though those brave few that dared go into the buildings (thinking they could get these terrorists out) have not been heard from. Still more whitesands forces are rapidly approaching to ensure they can keep hold of the buildings they now claim.

Fighting is also still ongoing in the less civilised world, where Veritas own security personel are guarding valuable mineral deposites and key industrial installations that bring key strategic resources like oil back to the world.

Also they didn't nearly get everything. Considering your espionage rating and because you're HUGE it would not be possible. They have assets totaling some 5-8 econ, but then again most of that is stocks and still being fought over and such so your main losses will come from an economic slowdown if it occurs.

Worldwide stock markets are dropping whilst resource prices are starting to clime rapidly. It seems that an economic meltdown might be about to occur.

Whitesands just invaded your capitols/industrial area's and so on and shot numerous of your civilians and a good quantity of policemen or other emergency response law enforces. Not to mention that they jammed your radar signals to get their undetected. They seem to be interested in a large number of privately held firms and corporate offices and banks. Some of these have links with Veritas (both mayority and minority shares), some are independent. Regardless to say the economic impact will be vast as these were all law abiding firms and most of them were good for a considerable fraction of your tax revenue.

About half of what I have available to spend. The idea is if I can arm everybody and take other people's Arks/Vaults/Cave systems then I wont have to spend time and resources building my own.

Basically any industry that isn't being used to build Arks is converted to military production.

In response to the Whitesands invasion, all "Unclean enterprises" (any business not owned by a member of the church) are nationalized.

Since troops can't be spared from the front, newly armed citizens are sent in to fight Whitesands troops. While they'll probably die in droves, the presence of armed gunmen is used by the church as evidence that the final Apocolyptic Battle has just kicked off. Hopefully raising moral and convincing any fence sitters to embrace the Church's agenda.

Whitesand in Russia:

The Russian response to the Whitesand attack is characteristically brutal. Thanks to the warning given by Veritas Holdings prior to the attack and the half-mobilization of the Russian Army as a result of the nation's current state of martial law, tens of thousands of Russian soldiers were already on alert in central Russia when the first news of the attack came. By the time the first Whitesand boots touched the ground in Moscow, soldiers had already established a defensive cordon around the Veritas offices in the city. As Whitesand elites engaged the Russian regulars, three full Army divisions stationed near Moscow and six Air Force bases began deploying to counter the PMC forces. Within two hours of the first signs of the attack hundreds of T-64 and T-80 Battle Tanks began to enter Moscow's city limits supported by more than 6000 infantry and a no-fly zone was established by the Air Force above the city, with more than 200 fighters making constant sorties to prevent any extraction or reinforcement from Whitesand. The Russian objective is clear: Every Whitesand soldier in Moscow is to surrender or die, and they are bringing the full might of their military to accomplish it.

In St. Petersburg, the relatively sparse forces in the region are unable to manage the sheer vicious overkill of the Moscow engagement. While 2 full Infantry Battalions are currently operating in the city, only a few hundred infantrymen are able to immediately deploy to counter the Whitesand assault. Rather than engaging them head-on, the Russian forces wait for the invaders to reach their objectives, then establish cordons around them by fortifying buildings and setting up machine-gun and sniper nests while using APCs and IFVs to cover primary roadways. The Air Force in the region, also far less powerful than that around the Central Command District in Moscow, are nonetheless deployed to intercept any attempt at exfiltrating the Mercenaries. While the Russian regulars maintain their defensive, elite counter-terrorist Spetznas operatives are called in to deal with each pocket of Whitesand soldiers individually and constant announcements are made by the entrenched Russians. "Surrender and you will be treated as Prisoners of War. Continue to resist, and you will be considered Terrorists and treated accordingly!"

(OOC: Being branded a Terrorist in Russia makes you a non-person with no rights. Considering the political environment right now, that's a quick trip to a GRU torturer followed by a shallow unmarked grave.)

Any Whitesand operations outside of populated areas will be met with carpet bombing, airborne assault units and tank divisions.

The Chinese Connection:
As a result of public outcry against the Chinese nuclear strikes and concern about massive environmental damage as a result of radioactive fallout, the borders will remain closed and trade activity ceased until China has taken proper actions to clean up the impact of their attacks on the Russian environment and make reparations for the deaths, injuries and cases of radiation sickness inflicted on Russian citizens. Russia also proposes a motion to the United Nations General Assembly calling for Chinese reparations to Russia, Korea and Japan for the damage done by their nuclear strikes.

Congratulations, you are now the number 1 enemy of the Russian people. It is far too late to remove your forces from our cities; we will annihilate them wholesale. Unless you want a full-scale war on your hands, you will do everything in your power to make amends for this unprovoked attack.

While those reasons are all valid, the simple fact is that if we do not punish you for the destruction those detonations are causing, we'll never be able to maintain the support of our citizens. While you could easily veto the proposition we've introduced, it might be better for you to just cooperate with it and make some reparations payments to nations in the affected areas.

By my estimate, (2) military worth of my Army are within close operating range of Moscow and just under (1) in St. Petersburg. Those numbers are fairly similar for my air force, thanks to its superior range. As I said in the post proper, we would have been very well prepared for this and are entirely willing to bring horribly overwhelming force to bare, and our objective is to make sure none of the Whitesand scum escape while minimizing damage to infrastructure and corporate holdings. In the North Sea, my Northern Fleet headed by the Aircraft Carrier Admiral Kuznetsov are ordered to make the best possible speed to the waters near St. Petersburg. While they're a couple of days away at best, it looks like I'm going to need to step up defensive operations.

Meanwhile, I'll begin assembling a strike-force made up of elite Airborne units and Spetznas operatives with the objective of coordinating with an international reprisal attack against Whitesand's bases.

Just to make the Whitesands assault clear:

Veritas is usually just one of the owners (typically 1/5th to 1/2rd of a business would be Veritas held, with 2/3 held by other partners), they have very few offices that are just Veritas (remember they are either mayor or minor stockholders). Those corporations include banks, financial, enginering, medical, chemical etc.. etc..

Whitesands has seemingly not only targetted these enterprises, but also several more that at best have indirect links to veritas owned business. In the crossfire civilians and emergency response services have been killed. (simply put armed police trying to retake buildings in the initial confusion were shot by whitesands forces in almost every nation)

Whitesands has indeed limited most of their operations to these corporate facilities, though the fact that over half of their forces are still 'enroute' and will arive within a day makes this uncertain. The hold Whitesands currently has is weak with their forces spread globally.

Considering Veritas had forewared all of you the worst of it can still be prevented. Russian actions will be very effective for instance.

In the words of most economic advisors it's simple in that holding the offices does nothing for Whitesands unless they are able to convince the people who work their to continue working their, they will however damage Veritas and the economy by keeping hold of them. Industrial installations that are still being contested and those might offer something more as those represent physical resources. Still almost all economic analysts predict that if Whitesands is allowed to keep hold of these facilities it's going to create a poor business climate that will lead to economic meltdown.

TROKK

At home, the remaining army, and the citizen soldiers, were ready for Whitesand's invasion. The soldiers lead guerrilla squads of survivalists into the attacked buildings- through roof and sewer access points- and subdued the Whitesand soldiers. There were not many corporate offices in the area, and even fewer belonged to Veritas. Their aircraft were grounded by superior numbers, (+++ Air force left at home) and all their vehicles and guns captured and added to TROKK's armory. The troops were held captive and placed in the Anchorage Correctional Complex for safe-keeping until the rest of the world figured out what to do with Whitesands.

In the Industrial areas of the region, Whitesand troops faired even worse. Those soldiers were not told to use non-lethal force, knew the area much better than their opponents, and were ordered to protect the drilling rigs at all costs.

On the Californian front, the ground forces continue to ransack the base for the schematics. The CG ships, no longer needed to interdict the bay, pull out and head for the Russian lines. They broadcast a message to the CR fleet, that their own supply of Anti-Ballistic Missiles have been armed and aimed at the Californian ships, and that further pursuit would cause the destruction of the entire CR fleet. They go on to tell them that the raid was only for technological purposes and their troops were not harmed unless strictly necessary.

Actions

The speakers are wheeled up in front of the Veritas headquarters. an aging man who is loosing his hair, but still physically fit, takes the microphone. He checks it in Spanish, before switching to a flawless American accent.
"Greeting, Whitesand Employees. You appear to have invaded a territory of the United States, and as the provisional government, we take offence to your killing of our civilians. You might have stalled our economy, if El Brujo wasn't such a master of history, and already put barriers in to slow the downfall.
Now, on to a more serious topic. We have you surrounded, and there are many people, both militia and regular soldiers, who would like nothing more than to kill you. In Russia you are a terrorist group. fortunately, we at Las Fantasmas are more kind, you are merely misguided criminals, no worse than MS-13. As such, we are allowing you one opportunity to reform." He checks with his aid that the offer is still valid.
"We will allow you to leave that building, and walk off of our land, on two conditions. First, you will relinquish all weapons to us as you exit the building. If you fail to do so, you will be shot. If you shoot back, you will forfeit the rights of your friends, and we will force you back inside." He turns the microphone to one of the Humvees behind him, as it revs it's engine and the gunner spins the Gatling barrel, "We can do that, easily. After we have forced you back inside, within five or so minutes, you will be firebombed, with the classic Napalm. A terrible way to go, I saw it happen in Vietnam, when I was a Green Beret." He lets that sink in.
"If you come out peacefully, you will be allowed to keep whatever you have taken. You will be marched to the northern border, fed and clothed by our men, and we will contact your superiors to come and get you when you are off our land. You will go home, to your families, your friends, alive.
The second request is also simple. Even if you march off our land, you will be criminals. You can avoid this by joining a new formation El Brujo has created. You will secure a guaranteed spot in our bunkers, which are nearing completion, and a far higher pension than you could possibly hope for, as well as acquittal of all crimes. We will not force this on you, we only ask you to listen."
He turns off the microphone and walks away. His job is nearly complete.
To Pacific Alliance
We apalogize for the late response. With recent events, including a possible attack from Mexico, it has been on a rather low priority list to investigate NASA. However, with our troops in the area to deal with the terrorist group Whitesands, we are perfectly capable of purging the old files with our current employees. Sadly, we do not have the money to bring the place back up to speed, however we are willing to share operation with you, as well as an Alliance, so that we may both prosper from the technologies.

The man who was monitoring the Church of the Coming Apocalypse will move from monitoring to destruction. He will be joined by all other agents, and they will detonate as many nuclear arms in the church territory. It should appear as if Whitesand did it, in an attempt to lesson the number of nuclear arms.
As many of the stolen nuclear arsenals should be detonated as possible, with low civilian but high military casualties in mind.
No cost is to small for their mission

El Brujo will coordinate the attack personally, as well as participate.
Economy: The factories will be retaken. A new school of Espionage will be created, a military school, for the purposes of increasing agent training and increasing our ability to monitor things like this.
We will start trade with the Pacific union, dropping tariffs. Also, we will impose a 60 day price and wage freeze, in order to combat the recession caused By the Veritas invasion.
The Whitesand has agreed to honor Veritas's obligations and contracts. While we officially believe them to be a terrorist group, unofficially we will take their money. We will instigate reprisals. Those donations will be put towards the bunkers.
Military: Our units on the border are holding strong and waiting for the enemy to attack. The rapid response Airborne is moving to Houston, where it will aid in extracting the Whitesand terrorists if they do not comply, as well as strengthening the No Fly Zone.
The defensive army is also moving to aid, and they will have two duties if Whitesand complies. First, half the army will escort whitesand to the northern border of Arizona. Through the trip they will offer the men a chance to join Los Canarios. The benefits are, after service is completed, an assured place in the bunkers, acquittal of all crimes, and a pension that is double that of the standard enlisted man, once the nation has come back after the disaster.All Whitesand employees will be stripped of their weapons, regardless of who they are, or who they join. Those who refuse will be shot. Those who shoot back will forfeit all the rights of their comrades, and the stash of napalm from the El Paso Military armory will be dropped on the building. This should be made perfectly clear before they come out.
Los Canarios will be assigned as their name suggest, the canaries will be paired with dangerous criminals and desperate men, and prepared for war.
The men who are left to march into the desert will be more than one days walk from civilization.
People and Prestige: El Brujo will be appearing for a speech when the White sand are extracted.
The government will contract with the Church of various religions to pass out pamphlets on how to most successfully survive the coming apocalypse. The church of the coming apocalypse is not allowed.

Operation Horsemen @ China, Russia, Japan

There might be a need for an explanation of the Churches recent activities. We've recently made a major push to obtain control of all of the U.S.'s nuclear weapons.

Most of the world probably thinks that this in order to facilitate some doomsday plan. But we believe that only be combining the might of all the major nuclear power's arsenals do we have a chance of stopping Wormwood.

If we four nations, like Revelations Horsemen, come together we might be able to actually pull the plan off. The Church, Russia and China can provide the nuclear omph, and Russia, China and Japan all have the space capabilities and expertise to know where exactly to fire all of our weapons.

We'd originally hoped to grab the facilities with as little bloodshed as possible, but it looks like our plan failed. We'd much appreciate any air support you can spare in order speed up the process. The longer it takes for us to gain total control, the higher the chance of an accidental, or even an intentional, launch.

The plan would require us working together very closely, even divulging information on our countries nuclear capabilities. Since it's quite the leap of faith, The Church is willing to share all it's information first. As soon as all the bases are actually in our control.

Hopefully we can all work together to pull this thing off. I know that you probably don't trust us, but just let us know what we have to do to ear that trust and we'll do it. All of humanity is at stake.

China - Mongolia
Chinese forces continue to fortify their positions and wait for reinforcements to drive the Mongolians back. Meanwhile reinforcements begin to flow in from all across China.

Beijing
Police cordons are formed around the captured offices. The Whitesand troops are ordered to surrender.

North West China
Convoys of supplies begin moving throughout the region distributing radiation gear to help the populations in the most danger of being exposed.

The UN
The Chinese ambassador makes a public apology to the world for the nuclear bombardment. He admits that China may have been a bit hasty in its decision to escalate to a full scale assault. However he also points out the most heavily affected region is China itself. The Chinese regions affected are some of the most heavily populated in the country. While in Russia the Siberian steppes are only sparsely populated and Korea has shown only slight effects so far and Japan none. Also in only a year's time the comet will impact and devastate every region so and substantial reparations would hamper China's efforts to save its own citizens from that devastation.

To Russia
We are willing to make some limited reparations. Simply because we have more pressing issues to deal with and wish to resolve this. We have also been informed that you have some plan to deal with the comet. May we ask what it is?

To Whitesand
We are canceling any deals we might have had with you. You have threatened Chinese citizens and Chinese business and are no longer welcome in China.

To Veritas
We wish to establish closer ties to help you recover from this attack. What can you do to help. Also anything you can tell us about Whitesand's assets and plans would greatly help us in dealing with them.

To Everyone invaded by Whitesand
We the government of China feel that Whitesand has stepped far far beyond the boundaries of legal corporate behavior. We call on all countries to blacklist them and regard them as terrorists of the most despicable level as they appear to have done for no other reason than to simply damage us, and a time where we can afford no damages or face extinction not simply as nations, but as a species. As such we also call on all countries to work together in dealing with this menace. If we coordinate our assaults we can deal with this menace and eradicate them before they inflict yet more damage.

To the EU
We are more than willing to trade with you and we are sure that agreements profitable for both sides can be established. However we see no need to involve you in our African investments. Simply because the resources haven't been interrupted and likely will not be.

To the Church of the Apocalypse
If you wish to be accepted as a respected member of the global community we suggest you attempt more diplomatic options rather than force. We doubt that the other American factions have any qualms about using their resources to help stop the comet, and there is no actual need for all the nuclear weapons to be under one factions control. Simply withdraw your forces and ask them if they would be willing to help. Only if they do not and it is determined that the nuclear resources available are not sufficient to the task should they be assaulted. After all if you can not work together with your closest neighbors and former country men how do you expect to work with other more distant countries.

Mongolia plans
Alright my plans seem to be working against Mongolia. I'm a bit concerned about the fact that I'm taking 4 to 1 losses, but hopefully those were just the remaining Chinese divisions that hadn't effectively fortified. My air units are going to begin scouting the Mongolians. Once my army has gathered I want to have detailed intelligence on their weak points. Until then however I will continue to fortify my positions.

And I may not be able to order the civilians, but I will encourage them to do their duty to their country. I will send out propaganda to recruit from refuges in the area to replace my army's losses. I will also encourage them to form militias. Even if not all of them do so enough of them should to have at least some impact.

As for the factories I didn't mean to switch production to small arms. I want them to continue developing all sorts of weapons. I'm just not sending the militias anything heavy. That will go to replace military losses.

Radiation plans
I will start producing supplies to help aid people in the affected areas. I'll put 5 econ to work on that. Drawn from anything I haven't used or from the nuclear warhead production if everything has already been allocated.

My scientists start working to tell just how bad the radiation is going to affect the areas and to chart which ones are going to get hit hardest.

Whitesand
As for Whitesand unfortunately most of my army is probably out of reach, but hopefully I have 1 or 2 divisions within range. Also I think you said that even a country with low quality will have a few elite units. Well unless they're already on the front lines of Mongolia I want the best I have dealing with Whitesand. And regardless of what quality they end up being Whitesand has maybe .15 troops there at most so they'll be vastly outnumbered. As soon as they arrive they'll assault the Whitesand positions. They have orders to try and keep collateral damage to minimum of course. Also my naval units will be be setting up a cordon at sea. I don't want any Whitesand units slipping out that way.

If there are any Whitesand facilities in China they are all seized and Whitesand's assets nationalized. I'll reroute another 2 military to deal with any guards. Again my soldiers might not be as well equipped, but again given how spread out Whitesand is their troops should be vastly outnumbered.

Unfortunately, the project is still in its initial stages and thus we are unwilling to make a public announcement about it, though we have codenamed it the Starfall Initiative. However, I can inform you that we plan to build an extremely large mass driver cannon to deliver an incredibly powerful explosive shell to the comet, shattering it. This will cause a significant portion of the comet's mass to be directed away from the Earth and massively decrease the damage that will be caused by the comet's impact, as it is spread over a much larger area and will lose exponentially more mass to friction with the atmosphere than it normally would. The current TROKK operation in Washington is intended to retrieve technology which would significantly improve our ability to construct this cannon, as well as a possible means of constructing smaller versions capable of intercepting debris as it enters the atmosphere.

If you are interested in assisting, we would be happy to accept both your technical expertise in designing and developing the Starfall Driver and your economic assistance in building and assembling it.

With regards to our pacific fleet, it is not involved in offensive operations against the American mainland. It is in position purely to assist our TROKK allies in maintaining security of their coastline and in hopes of deflecting any sort of invasion by the Californians. The fleet is positioned in international waters near the Alaskan coast at TROKK's request, and is performing no illegal actions.


The EU:
It seems that China is making steps to end the current diplomatic crisis, and it is highly likely our trade with them will resume within the month. Nonetheless, with the wars in Africa and the United States we still have more than enough oil to supply you what you need. Also, we are in negotiations with several other national states to assemble a strike force of skilled Special Forces soldiers to destroy Whitesands at its corrupted heart, their board of directors. If you're interested in getting revenge for their attacks on your cities, we would be happy to have you along.

To the Church of the Coming Apocalypse:
We have our own, far more refined, plans for dealing with the comet. Those American nuclear weapons will be neither required nor appreciated as they will result in severe environmental damage if used haphazardly. If you are truly interested in assisting with the world's survival in the future, we suggest you wait for our official announcement and invest in our initiative.

To China:
I'm glad to hear that you're willing to undertake a diplomatic solution. Our "diplomatic victory" over you should greatly help our national morale, and we'll be happy with a relatively small sum (OOC, basically a token sum. A few million dollars to pay for the people with really severe doses and a promise to help cleanup operations is all we really want.)

As to our plans for dealing with the comet, we are currently in the design stage for a method of eliminating the threat of the comet directly, without the need to escape underground or otherwise abandon our homelands. While we are not capable of sharing more with you at this time, you can expect a public announcement of our initiative fairly soon at which point we will be able to discuss what role, if any, your nation will want to play in it.

Finally, we are already speaking with several other nations about a covert strike against Whitesands' board of directors and top staff. We are putting together a Spetznas strike group, and at the very least Fantasmas has agreed to supply some of their spies and assassins for the operation. We would be happy to coordinate with the Chinese Special Forces to eliminate the Whitesands threat once and for all.

Actions (GM):

I've received nuclear threats from Whitesands, so I'm placing all of my early warning systems and interception assets on full alert until their threat is finished. Also, I'd like to note that Russia has some of the most advanced infrared sensors in the world installed in its aircraft and anti-air installations, and that as such the Whitesands stealth aircraft are very likely to be able to operate undetected in Russia. My Su-35 Squadrons (all two of them) are among the most effective anti-Stealth fighters in existence, and can easily shoot down any Whitesands aircraft less capable than an F-22.

Finally, while the majority of my economic output is going directly to the Starfall Initiative, I'd like to divert a little bit (2 points) to ordering significantly more of the aforementioned Su-35s and speeding up the progress of the PAK FA project. I'm going to need to improve my Air Force to protect my huge territory. I'd also like to divert as much as is necessary to maintaining my current ground forces and putting together enough combat gear to outfit 10-20 thousand more soldiers, in the event that I get into a serious war and need to institute a draft.
