View Full Version : What reward should I ask for from a Lich at Level 9

I need some ideas on what reward to ask for from a super power level 30 Lich who has basically written me a blank cheque.

One character got a +12 enhancement strength item.

My character is a level 9 cleric of Cyric, a persist cleric that likes to play with undead. (I have a bag full of shadows on my hip).

What is something cool I could ask for? I wouldn't mind getting something that you can't normally buy. Like, for example, Perminant Mind Blank on myself.

What would you ask for?

A Fast track down the road to lichdom for your self might be worth while.

See if you can get a template normally inaccessible to PCs. Certainly something concerning undeath would make sense, but a lich that powerful might have other [plot] tools available.

Lichdom sounds good, but I'm not a fan of the LA.

The Lich runs a huge city of undead, so I can pretty much rebuke/command any creature I like with a brief stroll through the streets. (Its how I got my bag full of shadows).

A wish transformation ritual into the superpowerful monster of your choice.

Ask for a Ghostly Visage (Fiend Folio p221-222) with the elite array, which gains the benefits of being a familiar, counting your entire character level, and gaining feats, skill points, and ability score increases for its effective HD. Have it always possessing you, you'll be continually immune to mind-affecting effects, and it can manifest over your face during combat to use its paralyzing gaze attack. It can spend a standard action every round to force an opponent to save vs its gaze attack again even if the target isn't looking.

Its feats should include Ability Focus: Gaze of Terror (MM), Irresistible Gaze (SS), and Piercing Gaze (SS), for +4 DC and +30 ft. range. With the elite array its ability scores should go Str -, Dex 17, Con -, Int 16, Wis 10, Cha 21 before any ability score increases from levels, which should all go toward Cha. At level 9 (Cha 23) its Gaze of Terror DC should be 24 (10 + Cha + 1/2 HD + 2 + 2). Undead get 4 skill points/HD, so it can have max ranks in Listen, Search, Spot, Intimidate, Kn: Arcana, Bluff, and Hide. Take a few ranks out of Hide to give it the Never Outnumbered skill trick from Complete Scoundrel, and give it Imperious Command in Drow of the Underdark as well.

The gaze attack is a fear effect, so other undead will be immune, but your party may be affected by it. Just be sure they know not to look at your character during combat. The paralysis effect will make opponents susceptible to CDG, so get a few strong skeletons and give them scythes and orders to CDG any opponents who become paralyzed with fear.

I like the idea of the ghostly visage. What would be better to treat it as a familiar/cohort as per druid or wizard?

I don't really think it would be appropriate for it to get animal companion benefits, being undead and all. A Dread Necromancer can get one as a familiar anyway, and due to its size it's very fitting. Maybe use the Skeletal Minion (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/specialistWizardVariants.htm#skeletalMinion) progression for it, giving it actual HD equal to your character level, add half your level as a Luck bonus to its AC (as if it would matter), and add one third your level to its Dex and Cha scores.

I think I will try to swindle it as a familiar, mostly so I can share spells and get it to do touch attacks for me :) Perhaps I can have it to heal my companions from afar lolz.

Edit: Just realised that my persistent vigorous circle is probably going to hurt this thing...

I thought the vigor line of spells just granted fast healing? Fast healing works just fine on undead.

"...functions like Mass Lesser Vigor, except as noted here,"
"...functions like Lesser Vigor, except that it affects multiple creatures,"
"Target: Living creature touched"
The entire Vigor line of spells has absolutely no effect on undead, constructs, etc.

Even if it did, looking over the Symbiont Traits it still wouldn't be affected by it unless 1. it's not possessing you, and 2. you specified it as one of the spell's targets upon casting it.

Awesome. Thanks for clearing that up. So if I bust a heal on myself I just get the visage to seep out of me for a round.

checking out the Ghostly Visage. It says Incorporeal Touch, under damage, but doesn't say what the actual damage is? Anyone know?

Check its Meld ability, that's why it tries to incorporeal touch. Not much of a threat, but it's great to have along as a familiar.

Ask to become a Necropolitian. Now you ARE undead.

Only make sure to caveat with the following:

Must be done in a Desecrate area
Performer of ritual must have Corpsecrafter feats.
Performer must be a Dread Necromancer.
Request Spellstitched and Create Undead as your SLA

That would be awesome :smalltongue:

Hmm... I'm in a similar situation currently, except I have a chance at a Wish spell at level three.

A pet horde of undead might be good for you, as you can never have too many minions.

Considering that the party member you mentioned got a magic item worth a little under 1.5 million gp, you are going to get something incredibly powerful. Lots of candles of invocation will let you zerg rush enemies with powerful monsters.

Alternatively, just ask for these (http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-5-5/).:smalltongue:

The whoole being made into a necropolitan is a good idea and all, but I have something better ready:
A death knight with all 3 levels. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9405915&postcount=547)
This gives an ever replendishing horde of undead, a fear aura and bonuses to strength.
This is only good if your not a caster which is what it sounds like you are, in that case ask for lichdom (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8535643&postcount=427).
