She's too blatantly piratey and light-skinned for the character in mind. That, and I can't find any good pictures of her.

A little bit, but it's fair enough to point out that a lot of 'anime' and anime style art is very formulaic as far as style goes. Likewise, everything is a matter of taste.

I'm looking for a solid pic of a Grey Guard beyond the one in the book. His name is Alejandro, and he's an inquisitor of Tyr who, while a paladin, is forced to measures he doesn't really enjoy going to in order to take justice and secure his lord's realms, and I need a good picture of him. All I care about is that he's male, no prostheses (found a great image... that had a metallic arm :smallsigh:), and it's fantasy (so, sword/armor/etc). Any suggestions?
I dislike reposting requests, but no one seems to have noticed this one, and I'm certain images in this vein exist out there (but am too fail to find them personally). Please help?

They change pretty frequently, and most panels contain either in-jokes or references to other works. She's also not a martial artist, she's an artificial vampire who wields a scythe and tosses around mind-crushy illusions, but she's got a build that works well for a martial artist.

There have been quite a few requests that have had people asking for a fairly easy to find basic person, but with some odd detail.

And commonly if that detail is left off people say that it just won't work.

We've seen numerous "weapons glowing X color", "hair color Y", etc requests that can be added to a base image in an hour or two by just about anyone that tries.

It would probably be beneficial for someone to write up or find a quick GIMP tutorial to put in the first post . Even a few like
Using GIMP - Change the color of something
Using GIMP - Add a magical glow effect onto an item

I know it can seem kind of scary because most of us aren't artists ourselves. But these kinds of changes don't really require you be an artist to make.

I really want to back eepop up here and say that (A) GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) is easy to use, free, and open source, (B) Changing the color of something is one of the easiest manipulations out there, (C) Even for a rank novice changing a color (like hair or skin color) is more like a 15 minute job than an hour or two. I can do it in 30 seconds, and I am an engineer with absolutely no real artistic ability.

And if you don't like GIMP, there are other options! Paint.net (http://www.getpaint.net/) is my personal runner-up favorite.

The feature you are looking for is layers. As long as the program support editing multiple image layers, then these kinds of modification should be easy.

If you want this to look good, it is actually very difficult. You need to re-shade the entire image to deal with another light source, which requires actual artistic ability if there is anything other than a flat, smooth surface to deal with. Such as a brick wall. Or a humanoid figure.

He's Captain Gyrfalcon, the example Scourge-caste Green Sun Prince from the Exalted Infernals book; I had trouble finding other images of him, and you probably won't see him doing anything else necromancyish, but he's got the pale shadyness about him that might do the trick.

I'm sorry, but I take offense to this. :smallannoyed: I check this thread every time it's updated and I've never seen a response as rude as the one you've given, and the implication you find polite responses as the above statement is...well...offensive.

Not everyone has the time, inclination, or capacity to edit an image, even if using a relatively simple program like GIMP or Inkscape. More importantly, as I've seen happen several time over the course of these threads, someone who was looking for particular ended up using pictures they found amazing or that took the purpose for the picture in a completely different direction after they saw a couple pictures that were 'almost right, but not quite'. To be frank, I find someone saying 'if it's not what you want, then edit it yourself' to be very rude.

I will however admit that putting up those links for someone who DOES want to try editting images are probably helpful.

Looking back over this thread, the incidences of this kind of behavior here have been mostly muted. In my head, its not 5 threads but just really long one. And it had just built up to the point that I was annoyed enough to say something.

I know it may seem extreme Callos, but in previous threads people have made requests and awesome folks like Serp and Fax have given them dozens of images that were 95% of what a person was asking. And those people then proceeded to reject the images out of hand for small things that were entirely fixable with minor effort.

I am absolutely not an artist, I don't think I could even draw a good stick figure. But being patient and following the widely available tutorials, even I can fumble through whats necessary to make these close images into pretty much perfect.

And if I can do it, I am completely convinced anyone else could.

Not really, this is just a topic that irks me. And to point out a simple problem with your reasoning, if someone doesn't have the time or capacity to edit an image, then how will they find good pictures besides asking for help?

Also, who's demanded anything? :smallconfused: Every request (that I remember, which doesn't mean much) has been polite, or at the very least neutral in tone and manner, nobody has ever demanded that the viewers of this thread find them pictures. More importantly, what he has provided doesn't help me because I don't have an image to tinker in the first place and I was taking issue with his tone, not with what he did (which I acknowledged was helpful, just to other people).

Penance will come later, after I'm done playing a game, cause uploading pictures and playing it are bad for my dated computer. Though I think I'll be able to offer some pictures that are new to this thread or, at least, haven't been put up in awhile.

I don't consider myself an artist either and I've done some coloring jobs too. (See Mordo's signature for example!) The problem is that it takes me upwards of four days to do it and I'm constantly nit-picking about my own changes and the original image. 70% of the time I dump the project and whatever it was for out of frustration that I can't get it just right, and it's why I prefer to just use a picture that is already just right in the first place.

Hyperbole on my part. It wouldn't be the Internet without drama. I'd assumed that the first picture someone posted, where you said "Hm, not bad, but the skin's not dark enough" was sufficient for your purposes. If it wasn't, perhaps you should have said something more to the effect of "No, not like that - like this:" and then explained more in detail what you're looking for.

For what it's worth I found his tone quite abrasive too. I have zero vested interest in the subject as I've never put up a request (at least I don't recall doing so) and I have found some of the 'requesters' to be a bit rude sometimes. But the guy posting tools and tutorials came off in a very negative and abrasive way. It's the internet and people do that, but pointing it out doesn't excuse the fact that they are still acting that way. Not a big deal, and I never would have bothered to take the time to say anything except that it became such a point of conversation here. Really don't have any investment in it either way, just tossing my 2 cents into the ring.

EDIT: Huh, looking back over it I thought he was a bit more harsh in his choice of words. No worries. Guess that just happens sometimes when you keep 10+ tabs open most of the time. Sorry for the confusion.

I´d guess the girl in black is, for lack of a better name, Dark-Alice. Her style of clothing is identical. In fact both girls are absolutely identical apart from their coloration. We have "normal" Alice and gothic Alice.

I think the problem is the artist was trying to mix a sexy skintight catsuit(ok, not really a catsuit, but you know what I mean) effect with the calvery pants. Oh, and in-case someone else didn't notice, and I didn't at first and it subsequently messed with my head, is that just against her arm the cloak curls in, showing the outer side; at first I thought that was the grey sky background. Also, I just noticed those delicious looking man-thighs in the bottom left corner.:smalltongue:

Heya, these are freakin' awesome images everyone.

I'm trying to hunt down an inspirational image for a prestige class I'm working on (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=203791), and I'm running up against a wall. The best I could find after 2 hours of GIS was Link. Laaame.

I'm looking for a Force of Nature type of hero. Male or female doesn't matter. Sword or spear wielder would be preferable, and I'd greatly prefer some sort of armor that I could photoshop to look like dragonscales. Bonus admiration if the pictured hero is actually wearing dragonscale armor.

The hero should evoke a deep connection to nature and possibly the fey. Super bonus points if they're fighting against an extra-planar being, ghost or aberration.

Sorry, those are pretty close to what I usually turn up on the google. All the images that match the race's theme, don't match the artwork theme. They're all too...cartoony. Nothing like the lion warrior-type you just posted. What I really need is something in that artistic style, but female, and preferably a mystic/sorceress/priestess type. It's hard to find the right image for it, I've tried (and my artistic talent is limited to painting minis, so drawing my own is out).

Sorry, those are pretty close to what I usually turn up on the google. All the images that match the race's theme, don't match the artwork theme. They're all too...cartoony. Nothing like the lion warrior-type you just posted. What I really need is something in that artistic style, but female, and preferably a mystic/sorceress/priestess type. It's hard to find the right image for it, I've tried (and my artistic talent is limited to painting minis, so drawing my own is out).

You know, the thought that they were too cartoony did cross my mind. The search is actually rather difficult, so this is the best I could do:

You know, if it weren't a ridiculous amount of work it'd be interesting to go through and see which pictures have been posted the most in these threads... For instance, a whole lot of pictures in Shadowknight's big post have been posted a number of times (don't worry, it's just cuz they're great :smallwink:) - many of them by me :smalltongue: (I know, cuz they're in my Favourites on Devian Tart). The autumn leaf-dress woman and the man with the dragon tattoo, for instance, I think have been posted at least half a dozen times (but, again, they're among my favourites, so it's okay).

That artist has all of them seperate, but it was easier just to post the bunch :smalltongue: If you want more along those lines, I recommend doing a search for Sekhmet, Bast and similar Egyptian goddesses. Should find plenty that way.

I don't have any other word for a Japanese/Chinese/Indian culture that hasn't progressed to the point of gunpowder yet besides 'Medieval'. If you know the proper term, I'd be happy to hear it cause I'm almost certain there is one.

I believe medieval applies to Asia as well. The start and end dates may well be slightly different, but I believe the same categories - Ancient, Medieval, Modern - don't just apply to Europe.

Edit: While I'm here, could I trouble people for a request? Simply put, young (late teens/early adulthood) female with silver/white hair and silver eyes.
