Like the title says I have 180,000 GP in game to spend on a staff.

What would be the most useful spells to put in a staff?

I've thought of timestop and a few others, but from others perspective and playing experiences what are the more useful things to put in a staff?

Wall of Force, Thunderlance, Dispel Magic, and At-Will unlimited Prestidigitation.

What abilities do you have already? Any spells of your own? If so, what kind and level?

Also, are you limited to arcane or divine?

Make a custom spell called Create Staff. Have it create a Staff of Create Staff.

You could create a staff using minor creation. unfortunately it's nothing more than a temporary stick.

Of course, you can always just craft a quarterstaff as a free action. Possibly as a non-action. Hell, make two. Maybe even four. No, not 100. Not infinite. We want this to still work when we need it to. Keep it down to low-mid single digits and your GM will probably roll their eyes, laugh, and let you get away with it. Try to blockade the hallway with it and you'll get shut down.

But a quarterstaff isn't magic. The Staff of Create Staff would create more Staves of Create Staff.

Step 1: Whine at your GM until they let you play a Ravid.
Step 1.5: Pump INT enough to overcome the "the Ravid isn't intelligent enough to employ special tactics" clause.
Step 2: Craft quarterstaves as free actions until you have enough.
Step 3: Animate the quarterstaves and command them to craft quarterstaves as free actions.
Step 4: Repeat as necessary.

MY PLAN IS FLAWLESS

Can you imagine trying to get that to fly in a game. "I am ember thunderleaf, my fists, like, kill everything." "I am gandor blackhood, my dark magics slay all." "I ARE STAFFMORE I MAKE STAFFS."

Your party would hate you.

If your GM doesn't want you to play a Ravid :

Step 1 : Play a Wizard, up to 9th level.
Step 2 : Craft/Buy/Find/Steal Headband of Intellect +4
Step 3 : Cast Magic Circle against Whatever
Step 4 : Cast Planar Binding, Lesser : Ravid
Step 5 : Let the Ravid fly out of the circle
Step 6 : Cast Charm Monster on the Ravid
Step 7 : Strap the Headband to the Ravid's head
Step 8 : ????
Step 9 : Quarterstaves army of DOOM !!

Hrm... could you combine that with the other quarterstaff trick? Making colossal quarterstaves as free actions, and then sell them as lumber for the guaranteed commodity pricing?

Arcane spells only.

I am planning on using a casting glove (MiC)

Storing the staff in the glove and then activating it.

Basically makes it look like I am "casting" instead of just using a wand.

I am actually a melee type class, but I've decided to take a level of wizard to get access to sorcerer/wizard list via wands etc.

First, if your a melee class dipping arcane for power, sorcerer allows you to take levels in dragon disuiple, which isnt that bad for a melee dipping arcane. 4 levels in gets +4 Str, 2+ NA a breath weapon 1/day and claws and bite which stacks for 1 point of BAB (which your increased strengh negates) Later you get wings, blindsence and more natural armour and stat boosts.

1. Find spells you want and don't have.
2. Put those spells into staff.

The nice thing about staffs is that they use your save DCs and caster level, so it's like having more spells. In particular they're good for spells that you might cast 0 or 2+ times in a day, but not consistently once per day; prepare those spells instead. i.e., get either spells you like to spam or high level spells that you don't usually use but would be nice to have now and then. Low level spells you rarely use go on scrolls.

This is assuming you're a wizard/sorcerer. If you dipped for staff use, tell us your build so we can find matching spells.

Find a way to get the staff to be able to absorb spell energy so it isnt just a fancy stick with it's out of charges.

Warblade 11 / Eternal Blade 7 / Swordsage 1 / Crusader 2

The last 3 levels were unfortunately story plot levels that fit thematically and the DM insisted made more sense then finishing the eternal blade class.

We recently finished storming the palace of the Lich Queen and now have lots of gold as previously stated.

From all the fights etc from the palace I have gained enough experience to gain another 2 levels.

My first thoughts were taking a level of conjurer with the abrupt jaunt ACF so I can avoid things with the 10' jumps. I was also thinking of taking the focused specialist variant from complete mage to get more spells.

In game I am the only really evil character.

Our party consists of and this will seem like an odd party:

LG High priestess of Pelor (Cleric/radiant servant of pelor/hierophant/saint template)
LG Swordsage 23 - She is the champion of the Pelorian church
LE Githyanki Psion/illithidslayer (not sure of level its around 20ish... keep in mind we just killed the lichqueen)
CN Rogue1/mage/ bla - He's well lets just leave it at arcane caster who likes fear effects
CN favored soul of some fire god... shes playing because the above player is her bf etc...

CE well my character.

On a side note does anyone know where and if there is an item entry for the libris mortis?

Apparently my character picked it up in the palace of the lich queen and I am wondering if anyone knows if its in any source book?

Soooo... Maximize Disintegrate ?

9 x 17 x 750 = 114.750 gp if you buy it from some lonely old archmage.

That's 120 damage points if you can hit your target with a ranged touch attack.
Coupling this with a wand of True Strike (750 gp) might ease things.

Only problem is the saving throw but half damage is still better than no damage.

Well, let's see.
First, you'll want a Chief of Staff. If you have a best friend who is smarter than you, that's your Chief of Staff.
Then you need a Communications Director, and Press Secretary. They will all need administrative assistants. Once you cover all those salaries you'll have enough left for... Huh? ...What? Ooooohhhhh... Never mind...

... Not a bad plan, to be frank. Skip the spells and go into business instead. A lot more fun.

It would be a temporary stick made of floppy vegtable matter.

Fine, you will still be casting spells out of a 5-foot carrot.
