Template: Resisting Soul
something is walking down the dimlighted street..... Its a vampire..! no, wait.... it different.... more gentle features. pupils are still animalistic.... but not a bright crimson.... more like a dull red-turning green, the living soul is still fighting the inner vampire for control!

Resisting soul is a template that can be taken by any Character who would recieve the 'Vampire' template (character may not be evil when taking this template). remove all vampire related effects, exept when the text below says otherwise.

Size/Type: Remains the same as the vampire template grants.

Hit Dice: as the vampire template.

Speed: Same as the base creature.

Armor Class: The base creature increases it's natural armor bonus by +3.

Attack: As the vampire template.

Full Attack: As the vampire template.

Damage: As the vampire template.

Special Attacks: Gain all special attacks from base creature along with the 'Blood Drain' and 'energy Drain' from the vampire template. A resisting soul also gains the ability to use Charm Person on a living humanoid creature that looks it into the eyes (works like the spell charm person, with a caster level equal to 1/2 character level).

Special Qualities: Gains the following from the vampire template; Damage Reduction, Fast Healing (but doesn't go into gaseous form when on 0 or lower hp), Resistance (however only a 5 each) and Spider Climb.
Resisting souls also gains the following; Rapid recovery (su): when reduced to 0 or lower hitpoints, a resisting soul does not turn into a gaseous form, but goes into a state of coma where they, over a full uninterrupted 24 hours coma, awakens with half their max hp. while in coma they will appear slain. any limbs that have been cut off regenerates over a timespan of 10 hours. even a head can be regenerated, and severed limbs may be reattached as a full round action. the limbs will decay and be un-attachable if not re-attached within 5 minutes after it got cut off.

Blood lust (su): a Resisting soul does not require blood to survive, but for each 4 days the resisting soul haven't fed (drained 1d4 con), lower the Fast healing number by one. if this hits zero (or 20 days without blood intake) the resisting soul must make a willcheck each 24 hours (DC 25 +5 for each extra day fast healing have been at zero) or attack the nearest living creature and must drain atleast 4d4 of Con from it and will then regain control. if none is within 1 mile radius, the resisting soul starts taking subdual damage equal to 5 each minute +1 per minute after the first minute without blood intake. when hitting 0 hp, the resisting soul passes out from the frenzy and awakes 24 hours later with full hp, and must then make another willcheck to resist the bloodlust again.
When a resising soul sees free flowing blood, a willcheck to resist attacking the source with the 'Blood Drain' attack must made (DC: 10 +1 per day the resisting soul haven't drunk blood, additional modfiers may be added, if there is a big amount of blood or if the hunger for blood is overwhelming).

Abilities: Increase from the base creature as follows: Str +3, Dex +2, Int +1, Wis +1, Cha +2. As an undead creature, a Resisting soul has no Constitution modifier.

Skills: Gains a +4 Racial modifer to Bluff, Hide, Listen, Move Silently, Search, Sense Motive, and Spot checks. Otherwise the same as base creature.

Feats: Resisting souls gains Improved Initiative and Dodge (if requirements a met).

Environment: Usually the same as base creature.

Organization: Loners or pair.

Treasure: Standard.

Alignment: Must be a Non-evil alignment (any). if at any moment, a Resisting soul becomes evil, he will instantly revert back to his vampiric state (regains the vampire template and looses the resisting soul template, along with all the stuff it grants. The only way for the character to be saved now is to atone for his sins by not drinking blood for a whole week and then be subject to an atonement spell. this will allow him to regain the Resisting soul template yet again.).

Advancement: By character class.

Level Adjustment: Same as base creature +4

Resisting soul Weaknesses:

Repelling a Resisting soul: a resisting soul has a strong disslike to garlic, but no game related effect to it. They do show a shadowy figure in a mirror, (this if proof of their soul). Holy symbols are another matter, as vampires, a resisting soul Can't enter an area with Strongly precented holy symbols (like a church or a concerated area). if someone is holding a holy symbol, the resisting soul must make an opposed Will check to be able to attack the holder, this holder however MUST be a holy man or the symbol will not aid the holder to repel the resisting soul. a holy man is the combination of a good aligned creature AND by either having the feat True believer OR being a cleric or paladin. exeptions may occur at the DM's disgression.
As long as a Resisting soul is in direct sunlight, its robbed of all its Special qualities. they return when direct exposure is terminated. you cannot rebuke or command a resisting soul. turning works normally, exept that the resisting soul can't be destroyed by it, only turned.
A resisting soul have to be invited to enter people's homes (just like vampires).

Slaying a resisting soul: Sunlight doesn't kill them, but killing them IN direct sunlight will keep them slain until there is no longer direct sunlight on the resisting soul (then Rapid recovery takes effect). running water is no problem, however holy water still damages them. the wooden stake works just like when doing it to a vampire. to completely destroy a resisting soul, you have to take the body apart and ignite the remains.

It it has to retain the Size and Type then it is still Undead and should have the same HD as a vampire. Plus, this would mean someone would have to keep track of that information. I'm not a fan of it suddenly being able to have its original class or racial HD while still being an Undead. It goes against an Undead Feature which is hard to justify. I think you need a really good explanation of why it gets this back which is lacking in your template at the moment.

I think you wussed out on Alignment by not changing it to Any Non-Evil. That "almost" is problematic. If it becomes Evil there should be a severe penalty.

thanks fo rthe info, and yes, if you go evil you return to ''vampire''.. basicly you are mostly not a playable character anymore. this is ofcourse still just an idea i wanted to share.

and about the HD, thats a brainfart from my side, will change it right now.
