View Full Version : Level 1 sorc spell that grants lots of Spot?

I need something to give me a huge boost to spot checks, with minimal investment (a level 1 spell slot). I'm worried about my level 1 Sorc getting snuck up on and stabbed in the back.

Any ideas?

Eyes of the Avoral, 1st level spell +8 to spot, Book of Exalted deeds

Sadly, BoED is banned. =<

I presume there was a bad experience with certain things (like, sanctify the wicked, VoP, and Ravages).

Anything else?

Beg Hawkeye (Spell Compendium) from the Druid or Ranger lists?

I would also like to say that stuff like this is precisely why I don't do sourcebook restrictions any more. Eyes of the Avoral is the spell you are looking for. :smallsigh:

Hawkeye is level 1 Druid?

Duration?

Hmmm... *debates on value of taking potions*

Try wands, you get more uses for your GP.

At level 1 I lack the money for wands.

Oh well, stealth builds are all that can take me out with ridiculous ease.

Ah, I just looked and saw the "level 1 sorc" bit in the OP.

Sorry about that. Maybe something to invest in later?

Try to ask your DM for a specific allowance for Eyes of the Avoral? Or a spell just like it?

You could try to research a spell just like it, but I'm pretty sure that's too expensive at the moment.

Honestly, the issue here is that it is first level. First level is swingy, even for barbarians. Twenty HP, tops, only goes so far. And while a little paranoia is understandable, it honestly would be easier just to chat with your GM about this sort of thing.

The Arcane option is Crown of Clarity.
Level 3 spell. +2 passive to spot and listen. Long duration.
Consume effect for +8 on a single check in either.

Snuck up on and stabbed in the back? You don't necessarily need spot for that, although at level one you are restricted greatly in your options.

This. I don't think I'd ever want to run or play in a game earlier than about level 3.

I am 97.4% sure that this is for the GitP arena.

NineThePuma

It is. I just kept it general so as to avoid it popping up on a search for the Arena. Wanted to check for stuff. Will probably spend money on Potions of Hawk Eye.

Hawk Familiar. Hawks have a +14. They can do the KaKaw KaKaw thingy.

Buy twenty chickens and tether them together.

Buy twenty chickens and tether them together.

That is actually a completely brilliant idea. Chickens last longer and cost less than potions. Almost no assassin can completely avoid a large roomful of chickens sleeping beside you.

I think I might put that on my 'list of uncommon misconceptions'.

Try Geese if you really want to screw that assasin. Nothing escapes their notice. Nothing. They are also loud and their beaks hurt.

As an added bonus, they might feel like breaking some arms. Probably yours, but it is the thought that counts really.
