He also set pine cones on fire and chucked them at wargs. Not sure WHAT that spell would be called.

I don't get it. The dude on the horse is clearly the PC.

It's making a joke about how in Eberron, the standard role of elves and orcs are switched, because orcs are the tree-huggers, and Elves are the roving marauders.

In Eberron the first humanoid druids were orcs ( as opposed to your generic evil mook race) while Valenar elves have much more in common with the hordes lead by Attila the Hun than the usual tree hugging hippies.

I don't get it. The dude on the horse is clearly the PC.

The whole point is that the Orc (half-orc?) is the one from the Druidic culture.

It's to show how Eberron was made to break the classical racial preconceptions that most Fantasy RPers, especially D&D players, have.

The guy on the horse is the BAD GUY. (in terms of motivations)

EDIT: friggin' Swordsages...

Gatekeepers are typically western Khorvaire.

On that third pic, while on the surface it looks silly, isnt it basically that both of them are in a position to get a kill strike if blade pulls his sword back to decapitate Frost? Its awkward, but still not an ideal position for either of them. Especially since frost is more than capable of spin dodging to the side and not getting cut at all. And Frost wouldnt have cared anyways, since he was basically immune to sword death.

Let me get it straight. The XXX part is meant to be instead of a name of monster, in this case succubus? That would explain enough.

Because I thought it stood for roman numeral, in this case, 30. And I didn't quite get the connection between obviously epic spell and level 2 spell.

I'm not sure if you're joking or if this is actually news to you, but here's some fun info:

"XXX" refers to explicit things like porn and sex and such. It is ALSO a Roman numeral in the same manner as the rest of the summon monster series. It is, for all intents and purposes, a pun that doesn't actually consist of words.

Maybe this is the reason that some people pump their CL so high?

To clarify: I got the motivator off the second old psionic demotivators thread from the wizards forums. Following it came a short discussion whether it would be a level 2 or a level 30 spell. Personally, while I liked the little joke about "summon monster xxx", I thought the comparison to grease ruined it. Either way, there you have it.

It was the old icon for one of her abilities or her passive I believe. During beta several icons got switched around. It's the same reason starcraft cutscenes portray hyrdolisks as melee units and mutalisks as spitting acid.

I think it's supposed to begin with more of a glottal sound, like the "ch" in Chanukah.

I'm actually kind of surprised there was an intended pronunciation at all. I always figured that he came up with it by randomly smashing his hands on the typewriter and then just went with it.

No. The average, educated speaker of English has a vocabulary of about 4000 words (spoken vocabulary). There are something on the order of 600,000 words in the language.

So, no. Not at all do we, by the age of 6, iknow all but the most unused words. Nor do we ever.

It's obvious a 6yo does not know nearly all English words, especially counting all loanwords, inflections, slang terms, dialect, professional terms, etc.

Any language will feel easy if you're grown to it. More to the point, human brain actually learns linguistics best between ages four and seven, since that's the natural point for speech and language formation. Once you get past ten, it becomes much harder to become fluent in new languages; past fifteen, and it's near impossible to speak new languages without a notable foreign accent.

At least Spanish is almost purely phonetical, though. You see a word written, you will know exactly how it's pronounced, even if you have no idea what the word means and have never heard it in your life.

By comparison, I'm kind of ashamed to speak (instead of write) English because I have no idea how half the words are meant to sound :smalltongue:.

English requires the sort of intuitive grasp to understand and pronounce that is only really common in native speakers/readers. Fortunately, since there is so much of it that goes unused, that's generally ok.

Anyway, if you're really going to keep up this discussion, go do it in another thread. MOAR POSTERS!!!

Heh heh. It's funny because Othello probably is the best known use of the word in that context. It also crops up in Titus Andronicus where it basicly one characters entire background pretty much with very little beyond it.

the Romanji actually made things harder for me when learning Japanese. I was always best with the other Hirigana and Kanji.

The Katakana are freakin' impossible to me for some reason.

I read that as "tuh-he taug-h kaug-h ah-s hay plaug-hs tuh-he daug-h".

And now you know how Dutch 10-year-olds speak when they first read English.

Also, Japanese is way easy to pronounce... if you're not a native English speaker. Like me. :smallwink:

It is and it isn't; I is used for an "ee" sound, and E is "eh". I don't know what your native language is, but in English I is very rarely used for an "ee" sound. The only word that comes to mind that does is "ski".
Oh, and apparently the "U" in instances like "suki" and "sasuke" isn't pronounced.
Completely phonetic that is not. Bad grammar this line is.

Dutch has its Is sound like Es (if long, short Is are pronounced... I can't even convey that in typing; but most Is are long anyway) and Es sound like As (if long, short Es are pronounced "eh").

German has that too and I suspect more Germanic languages do. English is the bastard child of Old German, Middle French and some Celtic. Of course it is "special".

Yeah, fairly sure it's set up for PF rules, but all I've found are the three races. Of course there's a chance that that's all there is and it was never actually meant for full rules... though that would be sad, it doesn't give the rules for "Unicorn Magic".

English used the same orthography (which letter corresponds to which sound) as other languages that use the Roman alphabet when they started to standardize their spelling, but then the Great Vowel Shift (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Vowel_Shift) happened. That's why monolingual speakers of English are always so confused by things that seem normal to everyone else. (German had a minor vowel shift too, but they re-standardized their spelling afterwards.)

You can find the rules for the three pony races here. (http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/03/traditional-game-ponyfinder.html) Unfortunately, I'm not sure precisely where these originated from, and there don't seem to be any more pages (though I have heard some people mention that dragonmarks could be adapted for cutie marks).

Edit: And yes, the rules were created for Pathfinder.

I always thought a cutie mark was more like a bonus feat. Some ponies get skill focus, others get improved flying, or maybe some kind of homebrewed feat that gives you a 1st-level spell as an SLA.

By a certain interpretation, yes.

The lead girl is impregnated by her vampire love, but the the half-vampire baby's kicks broke her spine and so they performed an emergency Ceasarean section.

See, totally identical.

By that interpretation, my twin sister is either a xenomorph or a half-vampire and my father is either a xenomorph or a vampire.

The fact that he does not sparkle, but is immune to the effects of sunlight and is not fond of garlic leads me to presume he is Dracula.

In a book I read, Monster Hunter International, by Larry Correia, it is stated that it take true faith, not just the holy symbol, to actually hold off the types of monsters effected by faith. Thats why most of the teams try to include at least one seriously religious guy. Sure the silver fleck filled hollow point rounds work on pretty much anything corporeal, but it never hurts to have a little something extra in your holster. So poor benny would have been helpless no matter how many holy symbols and prayers he cycled through. When it's all that stands between you and a vampire you'll become a very devout stakethiest.

I've always found the idea that the wielder of the symbol needs faith to repel a spirit quite stupid. The way proposed in "I am Legend" is much more sensible: that objects the Vampire has faith in repels them.

But really, that's because I find the "clap your hands if you belief" trope paradoxical and idiotic in general; holy symbols are just a particularly notable subset of it.

This was actually the basis of a discussion I had a few weeks ago, where we wondered about vampires of various mainstream religions and considered what their weaknesses would be.

"I have faith in nothing"
"Oh no! They are unstoppable! If only if it were the other way around and the vampire was repelled objects I had faith in instead!"

Please. A nihilistic vampire would pretty much carry the seeds of its own destruction; just trip them into thinking about whether they have faith in themselves. Crippling self-confidence issues ahoy! :smalltongue:

You have to really believe in the holiness of the stake, though. Think you can muster true, deep faith for a stake?

"I am a druid of the ancient order of Rhododendron. I am the Lord of the Red Leaves. In my hand my companion through the ages has been my staff, granted to me by Yggdrassil himself, now weaponized to strike thee down! BEWARE VAMPIRE, FOR YOU FACE YOUR IMPALER!"

This would also instantly be a reason why ancient vampires are stronger: their holy symbols and temples are no longer prevalent. However, it proves troubling with small present-day cults...

Then again, I found how True Blood pointed out how Jesus could have been a vampire ironically hilarious. :smalltongue:

"Nope, I have logic and that is just trying to trick me with careful wording. furthermore, how do you know that not I'm lying, and that I actually have faith in a random asteroid on the other side of the universe that will never come here? you can't possibly kill me with that, especially when a black hole comes along and eats and guess what? I'll still have faith in that random asteroid since I will never know that will be eaten or not- I have faith that it won't be eaten, therefore my weakness is unreachable."

I missed the discussion on anti-undead weaponry that lead into what or why vampires would be repelled by. :smallfrown:
Chainsaw, with alternating wooden and silver teeth, and a cold iron... whatever that thing the teeth revolve around is called (I'll call it the "Blade").
Each tooth is inscribed with a different symbol of faith (if their repelled by THEIR faith), and the "Blade" is inscribed with the symbol of MY faith (If their repelled by that).
This chainsaw motor also powers a compressor, which when I release it, uses a dense stream of holy water to propel a bullet made of garlic, packed with explosives inside.
It also has a large shield attached behind the blade, inlayed with an advanced LED pattern.
I need to go make a poster as tax, now....

Two questions:

1. Where's the site I can just upload an image, write some text, and the thing is made for me? I know someone had a link to it somewhere.

2. Anyone have a link to the one post that was about alignment: it was two intersecting lines (one horizontal, the other vertical) and at one end of one was being nice and being a jerk, and the other was plays by the rules and free spirit? I liked that and think it would be a good introduction to alignment for first time PCs so I don't have to go into great lengths describing what alignment is and where they see themselves. Just use the chart.:smallwink:

Seriously if anyone knows where to get the rest of this that isn't the three types of ponies, I'd love to see the rest of these rules. You mean for this game? (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dd/20060401a)
