I was looking at the Compsognathus and I was wondering if there were any suggestions from the Playground on how to refluff it for a character who does not want a dinosaur? Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

What about it do you want to keep that you just want it refluffed?
Maybe there is something else we can suggest that would work.

A monitor lizard would probably be the best match for those stats.

It's a homunculus grown from amber-encased mosquito guts and a liberal dose of frog legs.

He wants something other than a dinosaur that's suitable for a familiar that would make sense with its mechanical benefits.

Yup this is exactly what I am looking for, thank you!

Reading the entry, my immediate thought wasn't actually "Dinosaur" as much as it is "Oh god those lizard-things from Deus Ex!".

I do have to ask though: Why not a dinosaur?

I think you've asked the only question in the world that matters. :smallbiggrin:

That said, where are the stats for this thing? I immediately thought a real Compy, but it sounds like there's a humonculus with the same name?

The Hummingbird familiar provides the same benefit, but is 3.5 Dragon material.

Maybe refluff it as a bipedal lizard, like a frilled lizard, or a basilisk (the lizard, not the monster)?

Ugly bald chicken with eczema?

I'd say a small, non flying, carnivorous bird would be thenatural replacement. Considering the mechanical benefit it gives to the master, maybe a roadrunner.

Roadrunners aren't exactly nonflying;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geococcyx

though it's rare for them to do so.
