Hey,

I'm building a character for a Star Wars Saga game this weekend, but am facing an issue.

At level 7 how much damage should a Soldier or Jedi be able to do per level to handle the opponents hes going to face

That is a rather loaded question.

There are a lot of variables that are unknown in what little you have posted. I can only assume you want to make a damage specialist and am going to forgo some of the benefits to multi classing. I'm also going to assume you are going to use the standard 25 point buy system and you don't have access to another PC or NPC that can modify your weapons. I'm also going to assume that there isn't any restrictions on feats, talents etc due to era of play.

I am going to go over soldier first.
Weapon of choice. PICK one! Do not try to be a jack of all weapons and just pick a main weapon to focus on. Also being level seven you should be close to prestige classes. Preparing the correct feats a head of time would be a great idea. The biggest weapon "damage" are rifles. I'm going to make a basic human character for ease of building.

Strength 13
Dexterity 16
Constitution12
Intelligence 10
Wisdom 10
Charisma 10

Train initiative, your other skills are your choice.
First level feats:
Assured Attack / Rapid Shot
Talent: Devastating Attack / Rifles
Weapon: Blaster rifle, heavy (Be weary of attacks of opportunity)

2nd Level
Feat: Weapon Focus – Rifles

3rd Level
Feat: Riflemaster
Talent: Penetrating Attack – Rifles

4th Level
Increase Strength and Dexterity.
Feats: Point Blank Shot

5th Level
Talents: Weapon Specialization – Rifles

6th Level
Feats: Martial Arts I (For Elite Trooper Prestige Class) / Collateral Damage

7th Level
You get a talent: No recommendation.

Heavy blaster rifle +11 (3d12+5)
or
Heavy blaster rifle +6 (3d12+5) with auto fire
or
Heavy blaster rifle +9 (4d12+5) with Rapid Shot

With opponent’s threshold being 10 less, you will be very formidable.
Use rapid shot and collateral damage as much as possible.

I can do the Jedi later.

Wow, thats pretty cool.

I was more wondering how much damage I should be expecting to pump out per turn to be at level average.

But a build is cool to ;)

The Jedi build should focus on getting close.

Strength 14
Dexterity 13
Constitution 10
Intelligence 9
Wisdom 14
Charisma 13

Skills = Use the force and initiative.
Feats: Force Training – The force powers are all going to be dependent on what type of game you are going to be in. If there is going to be a lot of force opponents then rebuke is a must. For a damage build battle strike is a MUST. For example purposes I’m going to take two battle strikes and one move object. The move object is to move the object to you to be able to hit it. Surge is good for that too but that all depends on if you are facing force users or not. Taking both is a great idea and I probably will for example purposes.
Skill Focus – Use the Force
Talents: Block (some may say deflect, but the example build will get them both.)

2nd Level:
Feats: Rapid Strike

3rd
Feats: Force Training – Another Battle Strike, possibly a force attack like Force Blast, and rebuke.
Talents: Deflect

4th
Increase Charisma and your choice of either dexterity or strength.
Feats: Weapon Focus - light sabers

5th
Talents: Weapon Specialization (light sabers)

6th
Feats: Double Attack - light sabers / Force Training – At this point you are on your own with force powers. For my example I took force slam, rebuke, and move object I prefer double attack over dual weapon fighting due to having a lower dexterity. You could have a higher dexterity and do dual weapon fighting but that build should take weapon finesse.

7th
You get a talent only at this level. Some of my favorites are Damage Reduction 10, Force Focus, and redirect shot.

After you get to level 7 you should start taking levels in knight. Once you take some levels in knight you will be able to “build” your own light saber (Sigil crystals for damage or Ilum for attack bonus). With the battle strike build a GREAT talent is combat trance. Also getting Multiattack Proficiency (lightsabers) is a must if you are going to focus on multi attacks.

At level 7
lightsaber +10 (2d8+7)
or
lightsaber +10 (2d8+9) with both hands
or
lightsaber +8 (3d8+9) with Rapid Strike
or
lightsaber +5/+5 (2d8+9) with Double Attack
or
lightsaber +3/+3 (3d8+9) with Double Attack and Rapid Strike

I recommend using two hands with every attack. There is also a trick to using battle strike and double attack. The trick is you take your turn as normal, and save the swift action for your battle strike for your last action for the turn. This means it applies to the attacks you make next turn. I’m too tired to remember the logic.

This means you have the potential to do this:

lightsaber +3/+3 (3d8+9 + 3d6) with Double Attack and Rapid Strike and battle strike.
Max of 51 per attack.

You'd only use that in extreme circumstances or continue the build to help you with attack bonus and lesser penalties for multi attacks.

At level 8 you could have
lightsaber +7/+7 (3d8+12 +3d6) with Double Attack and Rapid Strike and battle strike.
Max of 66 per attack while gaining +4 to the attack roll.
Multiattack Proficiency (lightsabers) and increasing strength at level 4 and 8.

To answer the underlying question. 25-50 damage. :smallwink:
Things get really sick when you start critting and using triple crit. :smalltongue:
