A group of forumers on this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=202413) thread are discussing pooling money in order to buy the IP for Rich's campaign setting from WoTC. But before we proceed with the plan, we want to have his blessing, so to speak. Any chance we could get one of the admins to ask his opinion on this matter?

This is a horrible idea for a number of reasons, but I'll stick with just one. If Rich is attempting to get back his rights in the same way he got back rights to the Dragon comics, somebody else showing interest in them will only make it more expensive for him to do so.

This is aside from the fact that Hasbro/WotC have shown very little interest in letting go of any of the intellectual property they've acquired over the years, even when most of it lies moribund and unused (frex Avalon Hill properties).

Well, that and the fact that asking through a message board post shows a staggering lack of experience in business deals. This isn't some guy you call up on the phone, negotiating with Wizards would require lawyers familiar with business law and most likely far more money than a few people on a forum can pony up.

Sheriff of Moddingham: Rich can post here or in the other thread (or contact you via PM), if he has any comment. Unless he does, this thread serves no purpose. Thread locked.

Question answered on the other thread. (The answer is "no thanks," but I use a lot more words over there.)
