it a optional rule in the unearth acrana book. damn it i dont have my book on me.

It allows you to spend Xp to reduce your LA, so that your ECL is reduced and you gain XP quicker so level up faster.

Eg. a Drow (LA2) cleric 8 (ECL10) decides to buy off his first point of level adjust, he is now a Drow (LA1) Cleric 8 (ECL9) his total xp has dropped but so has his xp required for next level (and all future levels).
