Hey playgrounders, I was just wondering if anyone knew a way to improve unarmed damage outside of taking levels in monk. I’ve just had an idea kicking around in my head for a while and monk wouldn't really work that well.

Superior Unarmed Strike is a feat from Tome of Battle. It gives you damage comparable to a Small Monk.

Tashalatora feat from Secrets of Sarlona allows you to stack chosen psionic class levels with your monk levels for all bonuses.

Of particular note is the Fanged Ring item in Dragon Magic. It costs 10,000gp, but gives you the feats Improved Unarmed Strike & Improved Natural Attack (Unarmed Strike), which is handy because one of them is the feat tax to even be allowed to suck at unarmed combat, and the other is a feat to let you count as a size larger for the damage dice which almost all unarmed combatants take. Without taking up any of your all-too-few feats.

That calls for a [/thread] gag, but I can't be bothered right now.

there is a city brawler barbarian variant from DR349 p92 that is all about unarmed fighting. if you don't mind using up a lot of you feat or take flaws, you can do it with a normal barbarian. to do this you take the feat improved unarmed strike and the feat two-weapon fighting (both free with conditions if you take the variant) while you still do little die damamge you get lots of attacks and high str bonus. who cares if you only roll a d3 if you are adding +4 or +5 damage per hit (at low levels and even better at high ones) and have simular attack numbers as a monk

Unarmed damage tends to fall behind weapon damage so one trick to remember is that grapple damage is equal to unarmed strike damage. And once you're in a grapple suddenly the competition, including weapons, isn't so hot.

Here you go. Now you too can have 32d8 on your unarmed strikes. (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=1015.0)

Note: Most of those boosters work without monk levels.
