Pathfinder has a relatively nice trait, called Magical Lineage (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/traits/magic-traits/magical-lineage). It effectively lowers one single spell by one level for the purpose of metamagic.

I can't help thinking that this can be used for some semi-cheesy maneuvers. Since I'm currently considering a Magus build and a Magus never uses a shield, I was thinking about picking Shield and then Extend Spell, to effectively double the duration of Shield for +4 AC.

I'm not sure that would be the best use, but it's what I'm considering at the moment. Any other good uses for this trait?

RAW, I think that if you use it to apply a +0 level adjustment metamagic, it takes up a spell slot one level lower than the spell's actual level.

It's basically a poorly worded Arcane Thesis that stacks with Arcane Thesis. Check out metamagic handbooks to see how to optimise it. Obligatory link (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=9876.0).

Haste could also be a nice choice. Extend the length of Haste so that by level 5, it would last for 10 rounds instead of 5.

RAW, I think that if you use it to apply a +0 level adjustment metamagic, it takes up a spell slot one level lower than the spell's actual level. That's an excellent idea, until I realized that PF doesn't appear to have any (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/metamagic-feats) +0 Metamagic. :smalltongue:
