Here is the Homebrewed Sharkentine Empire shark/humanoid race I created and their basic fluff:
http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=202910

The Crucians I felt were very fitting, and I treat them as having basically no will against their Sharkentine "Masters". In exchange, the Sharkentines leave their females and young alone, and let them keep most of their harvests and possessions (they are careful not to overdo it, but will restock their ships at their expense without issue).

However, I guess I subconsciously based them of the Tau Empire from 40K (and here I thought I was original...:smallfrown: ), so I figure there should be:
A) Slave races which are much less eager to be serving in the Sharkentine Empire.
B) "Slave" races which are more than eager to be assisting in the conquest of their "known space".

Also:
C) An aquatic race or two, maybe including a fitting terran one, that has been strong enough to fend off the (barely and primitively) Spelljamming invading Sharkoids (again, none of the core races/empires of Spelljammer and D&D are in this section of space....yet at least). How I would not know. Maybe one could be a classic Star Trek superior alien race, though usually very "peaceful" to the point of not being able to properly fend off this inferior jamming race. Others could just be vicious enough not to be conquered yet, while I could have a single sphere have a godlike omnipotent race akin to the Metrons (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arena_%28Star_Trek:_The_Original_Series%29) from Star Trek. Perhaps for the later I can even have an Arena episode like battle between ship captains? Diamonds anyone?

Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Many Pikas in advance!

idk how well it fits but the koa toa (i know im not getting that right) was a really tough race that has worked with the drow, aquatic and primitive. they would make good slaves for combat, esp melee.

Chuul (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/chuul.htm) make dumb slave brutes.

Merfolk (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/merfolk.htm), Tritons (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/triton.htm), and Aquatic Elves (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/elf.htm#aquaticElf) are the general "good" aquatic humanoids. Kuo-Toa, Sahuagin (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/sahuagin.htm), and Water Orcs (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/elementalRacialVariants.htm#racesOfWater) would make up the "evil" ones, more likely to fight against their race. Of course, there's nothing saying that Elves have to be the good guys or that Sahuagin won't work with PCs.

There are also Sea Hags (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/hag.htm#seaHag), Scrags (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/troll.htm#scrag) (trolls), Skum (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/skum.htm), Water Elementals, Water Genies (called Marid), and Water Gensai.

[Edit] Forget the Water Naga (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/naga.htm#waterNaga).

Anthropomorphich sea critters would make interesting slaves, or tauric sea creatures, or even anthropomorphic tauric sea creatures (Anthropomorphic tauric octopus/octopus?).

Oh hey, the Tojanida (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/tojanida.htm) are in the SRD as well? That's kind of neat, and they'll definitely give off an alien appearance (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/MM35_gallery/MM35_PG243.jpg).

Aboleths (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/aboleth.htm) are aquatic as well, although they probably wouldn't make very good slaves. Then again, that very fact may disturb knowledgable players who find someone actually capable of enslaving them.

I love the Darfellan race from Stormwrack, they're basically Killer Whales made humanoid. They were previously enslaved by Sahuagin and their race almost wiped out... the survivors do everything they can to repay the Sahuagin for what was done to them, and you can bet your bottom dollar that there's no way they'd willingly be slaves again.

As a bonus, they're not aquatic per se, but they have a swim speed and can hold their breath for ages, plus they have echolocation.

I love some of the ideas so far!

I can clearly see the Sahuagin as the "eager" willing slaves. Just not sure why the Crucians would remaining the "preferred" slave race in such a case...

The Anthropomorphic Octopus seems to me like they would be the intelligent, unhappy, unwilling slave race that obey begrudgingly, but are smart enough to bite their pride until their race has even a chance at revolt.

My idea of what they would look like:

As for that whale race, I think it and the anthropomorphic dolphins from Savage Species would make the ideal "still fighting" race, who may have even seized a few spelljamming ships to protect their planets.

Maybe there is a way the PCs can help a whole planet resist a space/spelljammer empire? I am not experienced enough as a DM to think of a way. :/

Please keep the ideas coming!

OK, I completed my version of the Anthropomorphic Octopus. I posted it in the link in my OP for Review.

I've the decided that the "Antro-Porpoise" and the Darfellan are allied as co-evolved races on the planets of one of the only two spheres in this cluster not under Shark control. (Boy, that sounds funny to say...). I figured it makes sense, as Dolphins scare off/fight sharks, and killer whales eat sharks.
