View Full Version : Street Fighter Fans: Who Would You Choose/Who Would You Add?

Alright, supposing Capcom decided to come out with a Street Fighter V, I'd like to know:

Who would you keep from past games?
What countries and/or fighting styles would you like to see horribly and exaggeratedly stereotyped represented with new characters?

Provisos:

No Street Fighter EX characters.
No characters who were originally from Final Fight or Rival Schools.

What about characters originally from Rival Schools?

Fair point, none of them either. Only World Warriors and their immediate ilk.

Street Fighter V?

Don't you mean Ultra Super Street Fighter IV: Turbo Edition? :smalltongue:

Yeah, haven't they only made two Street Fighter IVs? I'm sure they could make at least one more.... :smallamused:

That being said, it would be interesting to see a Japanese kenpo-style boxer go up against the more traditional western-style boxers like Balrog and Dudley.

They've made what, 6 Street Fighter IIs (WW, Turbo/CE, New Challengers/Super, Super Turbo, Hyper Fighting, HD Remix)? SFIV has ways to go.

Well, at least they were honest enough not to try and pass them off as entirely new games.

Yeah, but I as far as I know they only made three Street Fighter IIIs. Unless they snuck a few more in after I stopped paying attention. Also, only three Street Fighter Zero/Alphas.

Yeah, but Alphas were meh and 3rd Strike was too hard for masses and thus unpopular. SFIV is clearly directed at the mass market so I'm betting we'll be getting almost as many as we've gotten SF2s. I'm kinda sad SSIV is being driven as the main title for the SF market as opposed to SS2HDR tho.

Heresy!! :smallamused:

SFA3 was my favorite in the whole series. Great controls, awesome super combos, amazing cast of characters. Also, it had a really good Story Mode.

"Infinite" M. Bison was one of the toughest bosses ever.

It's "For I beheld Satan as he fell from heaven! LIKE LIGHTNING!" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8DlZg5KPl8) (alternative link - possibly the hammiest line ever in the history of cinema)

On the subject of new countries, I'd like to see a Canadian fighter.

...while also being slightly scared to imagine what "fighting style" they'd associate with Canada.

Powerful jabs and grapples/throws, with an Ultimate that spawns a giant moose from nowhere and tramples the opponent into the ground.

I'd like to see some ancient (time travel!) styles. Greek wrestling and the like.

Well, lessee what we got in World Warrior (going by Jap names; M. Bison = Boxer, Balrog = Claw, Vega = Dictator):
- Muay Thai (Sagat)
- Tai Chi (Chun-Li)
- Ninjutsu [+ Bull Fighting] (Balrog)
- Boxing (M. TyBison)
- (Pro) Wrestling (Zangief)
- Sumo Wrestling (E. Honda)
- USArmy H2H (Guile)
- Generic Unnamed Oriental Martial Arts (Ryu/Ken) [no, Ansatsuken is not an official name; it simply means "assassination fist" and refers to any martial arts aimed to kill]
- Weirdness (Dhalsim/Blanka/Vega)

Then, when we expand to the rest of the series we can cover a few more:
- "Hitenryu" Kung Fu (Fei Long) [Given he's basically a Bruce Lee proxy, you might as well treat this as Jet Kune Do proxy or some such - Be Water My Friend]
- Capoeira (Dee Jay/Elena)
- Karate (Makoto)
- Savate (Remy, Abel)
- Kenpo (Yun, Yang)
- His Own Kung Fu (Rufus)
- Turkish Wrestling (Hakan)
- Taekwondo (Juri)
- "Shadaloo Assassination" (Cammy)
- "Thunderfoot Tribe's own Martial Arts" (T. Hawk)
- "Senjutsu" (Oro)
- "Sou-Ryu" & "Ki-Ryu" (Gen)
- "Street Fighting" (Cody)
- Weirdness (Necro, Twelve, Seth, Gill, Urien, C. Viper, Rose)
- Dan
- Juli/Juni

And repeats:
- Pro Wrestling (El Fuerte, Alex, Hugo)
- Boxing (Dudley)
- Ninjutsu (Guy, Ibuki)
- Muay Thai (Adon)
- Whatever Ken and Ryu Do (Gouki, Gouken, Sean, Sakura)

And then there's the Alpha cast (and obv, the repeats from SFI); R. Mika, Rolendo, Birdie, Charlie, Eagle, Ingrid, Karin, Maki, Sodom, Wallace.

So styles we can cover with existing characters:
- Muay Thai
- Capoeira
- Boxing
- Ninjutsu
- USArmy H2H
- Tai Chi
- Kung Fu (couple of variations)
- Karate
- Savate
- Kenpo
- Taekwondo
- Pro Wrestling
- Sumo Wrestling
- Turkish Wrestling

Gives us a pretty large base but at the same time, there's some obvious omissions like most grappling-based martial arts (Jiujitsu of any kind, Judo, Aikido, Silat off the top of my head), Krav Maga & Sambo. And yeah, you could also have Greco-Roman Wrestling for sure - high time.

Anyways, this post is just idle musings. Mayhap helpful to have such a list here.

Let's see...

A drunken boxer would be cool.

Or maybe just a straight brawler, no martial arts, just the type of slugging you'd find in a barroom brawl.

Alexander the Great had some sort of special martial art he and his men trained with. Can't remember the name for the life of me though.

More Sean

But SF needs a Ryuji Yamazaki-style street brawler. Who wouldn't like a super art of just stomping on your opponent?

And don't bring up Cody.

Four (ish), actually.

Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition (IN THREE DEE!)
Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (available as DLC for SSFIV)

Honestly I'd say five becauseif you're counting 3D edition you really need to count the arcade edition of Vanilla as well. Super 3D edition is functionally just a port of super with 3DS 3D, a touch screen execution mode that allows for complete stupidity like walking forwards sonic booms and a few 3DS features that didn't affect the core gameplay. Vanilla arcade addition on the other hand had eight less characters than the home version so it was a significant gameplay difference.

Anyway OT, all I want is more Q.
