Good creatures to zombify

The Animate Dead spell states that one can animate only 2 HD per caster level, the Plague of Undead states 4HD per caster level. What creatures would be good to animate? The generic humanoids would get stale after a while, so a Dread Necromancer (which is the type of PC I'm planning on making) would have to hunt new, cooler creatures. These of course would have a maximum HD between 16 and 80 depending on the caster level, but any creature would be fine. Anything that immediately comes to mind?

A 12-headed hydra has a full attack as standard action, that's 24d8+72 (assuming everything hits). Add Deadly Chill for an extra 12d6 cold damage. Add Awaken Undead and it gets its Regeneration back.

Or zombie flying things. Definitely zombie flying things.

Ghaele Eladrin makes a decent zombie minion - it just fits within the 10HD Animate Dead limit.

For the longest time I would've simply suggested Solar, aka "Best Body Ever". But then they made the Leviathan, Genius Loci and finally seraph, so I'd go with one of those. Except I guess Primus finally provided us with the One Supreme Option. I mean, zombify is quite the opportunity cost and especially with all the effort of getting the body in place, so you really want the work's worth out of it.

Anything with Pounce is good for a Skeleton, since it retains any special qualities that improves its attacks. I like to use Leopards because they're only 3hd, so you can get a lot of them, and have Pounce and a bunch of natural attacks to use it with.
