Seriously, this GM needs some tools to make his gaming a tad easier. I'm running a 3.75 campaign (homebrewed, o'course) soon, and I need to generate some maps and towns and the like, but I don't have the time to sit down with a sheaf of graph paper and knock all this stuff out. Any programs out there that can give a GM a hand? I've downloaded a few free ones, like TavernMaker or some other programs, but they've all either been too limiting, have weird GUIs, or are just plain bad. Any pointers, folks?

Towns I just do by myself, Its a pain, but I haven't found any software to do it the way I want. Dungeons how ever, I'll use This (http://www.gozzys.com/article.php?cm_id=8) or This (http://www.myth-weavers.com/generate_dungeon.php) (has some other fun stuff too) for a base, and make changes were I need them.

I'm a Tool, you need help? :smalltongue:

Seriously, unless there are imminent raging battles on the streets of a town, I just map it as players find the things they're looking for. It usually starts off as a set of gates and a tavern, and works itself out from there.

If it's not a town that the characters will be spending any significant amount of time in, I just handwave it. Literally. As in, "These are not the droids you're looking for," type of handwave. I wave my hand and say, "You find the general store." My players give me a blank stare, and say, "I find the general store." Works wonders, and speeds up gameplay, I tell you what.

Eh, that's what I usually do, but my players have been more insistent on layouts and having something permanent to work with, especially since they plan on setting up a stronghold (They ALWAYS set up a stronghold. I don't know why, they never VISIT them) as soon as they hit third level.

Anyway, the towns I can scrimp on. I'm really more interested in getting a good dungeon creator. I can't check out the one GeekGirl sent me at work, thanks to the blocking filter, but I'll check it out when I get home. Thanks!

Inkwell has been working on a random town map generator, which has some potential...

Ooooooh. Well. Those are both good additions.

Gentlemen, you have made my job as a GM infinitely easier. I toast your name and wish you many victories upon the field.
