Hey, just a quick (?) mental exercise/build challenge...

What would you come up with, if you had to build a party within these guidelines:

4 or 5 member party
Each member starts at ECL 6
Each member must be of a non-Humanoid type (Monstrous Humanoid is acceptable), and be of a race with at least 1 Racial Hit Dice and/or +1 LA. (By non-Humanoid, I referring to type, and not anatomy).
Each member must be of a different type (i.e. if someone is an Outsider, no others can be etc.)
All material is on the table, but bonus points if you don't use homebrew, 3rd party or Dragon Mag.
The party should try to be cohesive, compliment each others abilities, and fill all the likely roles required by an adventuring party.

So, go for it! - T

5 pixies.

All take 1 level of the immediate teleport wizard variant class feature, and a level of rogue.

edit: all different.. dang.

If LA Buyoff is in effect, then simply up their class levels by one/two.

-Aasimar Cleric 5 (Outsider)
-Jaebrin Bard 5 (Fey)
-Hagspawn Barbarian 4 (Monstrous Humanoid)
-Volodni Druid 4 (Plant)

I admit I cheated by using your LA+1/+2 list though.

Assuming savage species is allowed...

Cleric - either ghaele or trumpet archon with ECL6 abilities. They get full clerical spellcasting up to lv14, so might as well.

??? - Pixie swordsage2. You are capable of quick bursts of damage (between shadow blade, burning blade, wolf tiger claw and later, wis to damage as well). You will also enjoy excellent defenses with a high dex, wis to AC, perma-invis, sr and flight. Only drawback is that you run out of maneuvers fast, recovery is a hassle, and your normal attacks don't really deal that much damage.

Disabler - wyrmling brass dragon. Pump con, give it ability focus: breath and heighten breath. You should be able to boost it sleep breath's DC to a respectable lv. This is personally better as a wizard's familiar, but should still be viable as a PC. Misc dragon senses help round out its usefulness as a scout and spotter.

Fighter - this one's dicey, given that LA means fewer HD, and so they are weaker. Goliath is too close to being a humanoid race to me, effective as one with fighter/barb lvs would be. If you want to retain the really "monstrous" feel, maybe centaur as some form of charger (they auto-qualify for spirited charge) or troll. I find a treant fairly attractive as well. Alternatively, a griffon isn't too bad if you don't mind the crap int.

Can't think of anything for arcane support/roguish skills. Succubus gets suggestion at will, but is also an outsider. :smallmad:

I am trying to get everyone to have some sort of flight. It is not the most optimised of parties, but should be fun to play, and each has some niche they can specialise in and contribute meaningfully.

Are were-creatures allowed if applied to a normal humanoid race but stay in hybrid form all the time? I'm thinking a human wererat rogue could be a decent scout/skill monkey
