i am BIOTORE! DESTROYER OF ALL THINGS MACHINE! RAUGUAHUGHAUGHAUGH!!!!

But i don't play much anymore, my computer had a serious graphical downgrade and now i can't see more then ten feet infront of me. And soloing just isn't fun after joining a super group with some awsome people.

I'm Unnamed_Protagonist or somesuch, as I am on steam.
I've got two characters just out of tutorial and done most of the purple gang quest stuff.
I've got two characters, Cutting Edge, the powered armour wearing, super-sentai reject Behemoth, and Grey Seer (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1040030), a Grimoire.

I've been pondering registering a second account to scam another two character slots. On the one hand, there's another few characters I'd like to try, but on the other hand, eh... couldn't be bothered.

I'm carpeguitarrem on Steam...and I think that's my Champions username too. I've got a character named Azure Paladin, a brawler with a sword who so far can teleport.

Anyone have any suggestions on how should spend my upgrade points? Is getting extra abilities for my powers more useful than getting the power level 3 upgrade? Is it better to upgrade my big attacks or my basic powers?

I recently picked this up. 2 character slots feels soooooo limiting, but I'll get by. My two characters so far are Brutalisque, a demon-ish Behemoth and The Wench, a pirate-themed Blade. Both feel kinda same-y mechanically, but I guess they'll differentiate some as they get some levels on them.

Looks like I'm pretty much done with Westside now. There's one escort mission I didn't finish, Your Friend in the Force, as the escortee tends to draw agro.

My incurable altitis* has struck swiftly and predicatbly, so I scammed a second account and started levelling a Grimoire, Croatoan. Fun fun fun. Teleportation and the Sigils power go together like peanut butter and strawberry jam.

I took her through Canada instead of doing Westside again, it's pretty cool. I outlevelled a bunch of stuff, but the story seemed a bit better strung together than Westside. And no Foxbat pants-on-head retardedness. That helped too.

*A disease I do not, in fact, suffer from. I rather enjoy it, see?

Far as I can tell (and it's not very far), you want to max out the damage on your spammable big hitters. So my grimoire is maxing Sigils and the blast power, has her energy builder unenhanced (it hits like a wet noodle and doesn't even get used much) and... no points left to spend elsewhere, actually. They're a bit thin on the ground. The Behemoth has grabbed the taunt upgrades and defensive power upgrades because, hey, I wanna tank sometime. So no level 3 damage for her.

Looks like I'm finally done with the Irradiates. Maybe I won't be shot to pieces so much in the future.

The additional effects seem pretty useful. Stun on Roomsweeper and Mighty Leap, Crushing resistance debuff on Demolish. Also, there's not much I can really spam except for Defensive Combo.

So, who's playing? Is there a GitP Super Group (and does that mean anything to a silver player)?I recently got back into playing... I'm @MandoKnight there, with a Blade and Inferno, both around the early 20s in level. Don't know if we've got a GitP Super Group up yet, but if we don't, I could jump in as a charter member (you'll need either some kind of monetary contribution to the game or play for 20 hours total in order to make one, and that includes being a charter member).

An SG gives you, beyond the basic "Oh, hey, this is a Guild, but by a more Superhero-y name" features, an additional Costume slot, in case you have a team outfit or a Silver Age throwback outfit or something. Otherwise, you'd need to be a Gold member or purchase Costume slots individually in order to get more than your one costume slot (you can alter it for an in-game-currency fee... anything but the gender can be changed, with the fee scaling to the type and number of changes).
And what'd be the most useful things to buy, short of a subscription?
Healing items. When you're hard-headed enough to take on a Super Villain by yourself, you're gonna want some, especially if the guy doesn't play to your strengths (i.e. a laser-gun-toting villain against an Inferno.). If you suffer from Alt-itis, you may want to buy some Character slots.

Other than the better-than-what-you-get-by-crafting buffs, the store also provides (currently three) extra adventure packs, more costume pieces, and amusing items (such as sidekick summoners and become-a-monster devices). There's also a few variants on the travel powers and several new archetypes. Mostly, it's buying (for permanent Silver access) a la carte what the Gold members get for their subscription fee (the adventures, and most of the costume pieces and power sets), grabbing standard microtransaction stuff, or getting nifty little baubles that are solely for your amusement.

You can hop on the jet to Canada as soon as you finish/skip the tutorial. It only runs up to 12ish (unless I missed a chain or two, it's possible). I had to do a few Westside missions after Canada before hitting Desert Crisis.

They're a bit varied. You'll loop in and out of Millenium City, the Southwest and Canada at quasi-random intervals. I think, before I went to Monster Island, I was clearing stuff in Canada, finished up most of Monster Island, then went back to Canada until I got to Vibora Bay. Been there pretty much ever since.

Also, never go to Lemuria. No matter what quest sends you there, don't.

Anyway, I played up to about 38 or so not long after it first went F2P a while back, using the version I'd downloaded off Steam for the free week they offered on their 1 year anniversary. I've got an Archer character with very little to do. Vibora's nice at first but it gets a little annoying as you keep going.

Oh, also, if anyone's around level 21 (give or take), I'm trying to clear Aftershock #2, and it's basically impossible to beat the boss solo, at least as an Inferno. I'd like a team (preferably at least one Tank and/or Medic type on the team) to take it down with me.

I don't get the Lemuria hate. The worst part of that place was the lag, and that got fixed ages ago. Okay, it's kinda annoying for a melee-focused character, but it's nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.

Grey Seer (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1040030), a Grimoire.

The good thing about playing a specialist (named Eshin, BTW), is I have to start learning to play the game. Didn't work out how useful blocking is on Actuator, what with the 90% damage reduction from Defiant!.

I understand that. My own Brute got a tad boring to play around 17-ish... nigh-unlimited energy and high resistance from Defiant! means all I had to do was hit Roomsweeper, one-shot everything in front of me and move on. I'm... not highly motivated to play a character that easy, honestly.

The Grimoire hit 25, and continues to stomp all over eveything, but she requires some attention to positioning, timing and blocking, so beating the tar out of Super Villains two levels above me feels appropriately challenging.

Mando Knight

Inferno's also fairly easy: since Recovery and Endurance are your superstats, you have tons of energy to spam your AoE DPS powers. Except that burning everything to the ground rarely gets old.

Also, I am amused by the Mom's Basement hideout, complete with the N.A.G. security system.

Just fought Menton as Eshin. That was hard, even though I was three levels above the mission. Hardest part was the second phase of the boss fight (Kodiak), as all the knock up/back attacks kept screwing with my Eye of the Storm. Eventually I got the blocking down right.

I wish there was a warning before going into super-sized missions like that. I though I'd easily be done before dinnertime, I had well over half an hour, after all. The mission took about an hour all up.

I'm running a Glacier, and feeling a little annoyed by how my quest-completionism-itis clashes with the leveling speed. Just from the tutorial and 95% of the Westside quests (missing Friends on the Force), I'm now two or three levels above everything I've seen so far in the desert (bar Grond). And I've been trying to avoid non-essential battles (I see them as a waste of time, since the rewards from my green and grey quests are worth over 100 times as much as the henchmen I fight in them), so ... :smallfurious:

I suppose it's better than the grinding-intensive alternative, though. Incidentally, the Zombie Apocalypse PvP mode is nice for trying out anti-horde tactics, and encourages you to learn to deal with 1) enemies with power sets, 2) mooks with Nailed to the Ground, and 3) being on a team with 2-4 other 'toons.

Sadly, the annoying-ness of using Teleport to travel long distances got to me, and my Grey Seer is no more. also the grimoire-passive looked kind of dumb.

Thinking of other Skaven-themed heroes, could have a Rat Ogre, but that would have to be behemoth... there probably isn't the right costume elements for a Warlock Engineer... the Blade archetype didn't seem that much fun when I tried it...

I've now got a lvl 13 cowboy-themed Soldier, and I'm thinking of resetting my behemoth as well. Kind of boring for solo play.

You can use in-game money to retcon. I've done it a couple of times to a fairly low level on Eshin after getting Eye, (you have to remove powers in order from most recent, one at a time) so it's not prohibitively expensive. Not that I know what else a grey seer would have.

A warlock engineer would have to be an inventor, I think. As for parts, much like the seer only with some steampunk bits. Getting said bits could be a problem, as it would need either real money or 4000 untradeable snakebucks to get the full set.

Teleport is good as a secondary travel power (as it lets you cheese away from fights), but you'll want something else for actually getting around.

I'm a fan of Acrobatics. Slower than Super Speed, faster/easier to navigate than Super Jump and I'm pretty sure faster than most of the flight travel powers. And, unlike Super Speed, you're not limited to only going over flat terrain.

I'm also not a fan of flight powers for first time players. I feel like they take some of the wonder out of the game when you first start playing, since you can avoid pretty much everything. More fun to jump around like an idiot and all that.

I have acrobatics on Eshin, it's pretty good unless you need to get to high places, but the animations seem to glitch out a lot. Also momentum seems a problem. I like superjump, picked it on Actuator and had no problems getting around and landing where I want. Haven't really used the others (it seems like superspeed should have a powerset and not just a travel power, dunnit?).

I like flight, I find it rather picturesque. You get a nice view of the map from up in the air. Also fun to fly up to the top of the towers in the Rennaisance Center and drop all the way down. But it does seem a little slow.

Acrobatics is okay. I wish it was just the *tiniest* bit faster, though.

I tried out superjump in the powerhouse once, and it seemed like it would make for very slow going.

Which is more fun, the Archer, or the Flamer?

And will definitely be seeing if I can join the Imposters. Does the supergroup have any particular theme?

Oh yeah. You can't really finish those as a F2P player. You pretty much don't have the inventory space to pull it off.

And it takes forever. All you get is either a variant of Super Speed (for Arms) or Flight (for Science/Mysticism), and by the level you start getting the missions for it, you've already got your second travel power and the need for a third (which might be a duplicate of one you already have) isn't particularly high.

I should probably start playing again. I was in Vibora Bay when I stopped and some of the quests were starting to grate on me.

Also, according to the wiki, Arms:Firearms/Ordinance (or w/e it's called) is not the best crafting path for a gun-slinging soldier. Science or Mysticism is.

I need help naming and choosing a background concept for my character.

He's a devastator archetype, and I have a fairly solid concept for him: BFS/Fire themed hero, planning on buying the phoenix flight power for him, and didn't want the wings to just disappear when he lands. :smalltongue:

Took the solid broad sword for the weapon, metal core with bright red edges, filled with the power of fire, being magical in nature.

The hair color is sort of a signature of mine.

Problem I have though is choosing a name (I'm always bad at that) and coming up with a background story. Is he a deity, someone who found a magical McGuffin, from a different dimension/planet, etc?

Once I have good name/background concept, I can handle things from there.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Meet Pyroblade!

Originally Jason Smith, an archeology student working as museum security guard to pay for tuition. When a villain attacked the museum, Jason was sent through a wall (no one ever got hurt if they were sent through a wall in Silver Age :smallwink:) into the museum storage. There he landed amidst the already broken shards of ancient armor, his hand on the hilt of a supposedly magical blade that no one could activate. Being in contact with both the sword and the armor awakened the sword's spirit transforming him into Pyroblade!

With his new powers, Pyroblade was able to thwart the villain, but can not return to his normal form, until the sword's spirit feels he has performed enough heroic deeds. He has publicly announced his true identity, not ouf of a desire for fame, but out of necessity: He still needs to be able to access his bank account.

As a side note, the swords spirit may or may not be a phoenix, I haven't decided. :smalltongue:

I've been trying to avoid leaving the city this time, to keep my levels under control. Of course that involves doing higher-level missions than I'm ostensibly ready for. Haven't had many problems, Super-Presence really does make a difference.

Unfortunately there appears to be only one mission left available to me, and I'm not that close to levelling. I've gotten to level 19 so far, hopefully I'll be able to do the rest of the Gadroon line and level from that.

It's The Imposters. I'm just too lazy to get one and figure out how to actually invite people.

It's mainly that I've hit a phase where all the quests available to me are either 2 levels higher or lower. It's also the fact that Soldier's appear to just rip through everything short of master villains.

I had no trouble apart from the bosses, there's just so many and they all have ranged attacks and they spread out so you don't know who you're gonna agro... just a pain in the backside. And I swear they agro from further away than other mobs, too.

I probably need to upgrade Assault Rifle. A number of times boss fights ended with a "dammit, I was this close!". Submachinegun Burst seems to work just fine at level 1 so far. Energy has been a problem. I understand it gets better at level 22 with Killer Instinct, but the lack of energy from blocking is sorely felt right now.

Hey, Imposters members, about the SG vault:

We don't need to keep random drop junk in there, unless it's one of the Vibora Bay costume drops or other rare items. I'd like to clear it out and reserve it for things like crafting components: I'd rather donate my Arms and Science travel device components to an SG member than just sell them. In addition, there's two tabs that I can't seem to access... are those for Gold members or officers only or something?

Penguinizer
2011-08-03, 04:29 PM
The two tabs are currently unaccessable because I honestly have no idea how to let people access them. I'm not really all that good at this thing am I.

Anyways, the random junk was there so people with the relevant crafting skill could research it. Most of the people moved on to other games so it just kinda stuck there. Feel free to clear it out.

At least you don't have to stand back and watch NPCs fight in the crisis... Repairing the sub was a pain in the backside, as after waiting a while for the instance to start I ended up solo anyway. I think you're meant to have at least 3 people doing that.

Moving and fighting in the water is such a pain. Even with long range and minions it's annoying. Never going to try it with melee. I guess I need one more level to open up more Monster Island quests. I hope so 'cause I'm nearly there (I've been doing quests 3 levels above me with Kid Contraptulator since finishing Westside).

As an aside, using a 360 controller for Champions works pretty good. Really big help on my soldier because she kinda needs to be able to move and shoot at the same time, which is really awkward on default controls.

I've been putting a lot of random crafting ingredients into the group vault. If you need some low-level crafting parts there should be some.

Also, what are the random power conversion things you can get at 200 or so crafting skill? And what are Research Notes used for?

Those are the things currently confusing me.

Research Notes are stockpiled. Then you use them with Research Supplies to craft an item that grants you an Insight/Epiphany/Profundity.

Those weird things yes. I'm a bit tired and forgot what they were called.

Ogremindes
2011-08-09, 08:52 PM
I wasn't sure, as there are component conversions, too.

There's a good number of power replace items. The ones with reams of special cases don't work, to my knowledge. Some power replace items are used in the same way as powers (that's why the primary equip slots have keyboard shortcuts like powers). The rest enhance existing powers, usually only ones from a particular power set. I'm not sure if they're worth using.

Mando Knight
2011-08-10, 01:26 PM
Power Replace items are rarely worth using. Even the purple-grade ones give weaker static bonuses than other Primary items of the same level, so you have to go by the active benefit: does adding Flaming Burst to your TK powers boost your offense by enough that you can use an item that only gives you 10 or 20 to your Super Stat instead of 30 or 40 (or more)? Do you find yourself needing that Health-On-Kill benefit frequently?

Looks like I'm pretty much done with Westside now. There's one escort mission I didn't finish, Your Friend in the Force, as the escortee tends to draw agro.

I remember that mission. The trick is to stay fifty feet in front of him and kill all the enemies before he gets to their spawns.

I played all through last summer and got a DEX/INT Fighting Claws character (freeform; this was pre-Free For All) to around level 27 before college started and I dropped the game due to time constraints. It was a shame too, they had just given out a new round of free retcons and I was going to switch to DEX/EGO TK-Blades, which was closer to my original character concept. I don't see myself coming back to the game now with SW:TOR coming around the corner, but word is that it's really picked up in activity.

I think you can make multiple officer positions. As the first L40 in the Group, I'd like to nominate Dragonna (http://www.champions-online.com/character_profiles/3989117/view) as some kind of senior officer.

Also, I rebooted my main, Mando Knight (http://www.champions-online.com/character_profiles/7372337/view), and built a Savage, Wolfhound (http://www.champions-online.com/character_profiles/7121848/view). Well, the point of having multiple officers is that if one guy goes AWOL, there's still someone with officer-y powers.

I added officers. They're like normal members except they can also kick people and mess around with some group settings (short of renaming it and whatnot.)

Officers should be able to promote people to officer so you should be able to handle things now.
