Quick ref question:

Does altitude obliviate cover from things with a lesser altitude than the one attained?

Basically, can Godfrey still use the pillars and such to move hiding against Veri's eagle gaze?

Altitude does not necessarily obliviate cover. Rules for cover stay the same:

To determine whether your target has cover from your ranged attack, choose a corner of your square. If any line from this corner to any corner of the target’s square passes through a square or border that blocks line of effect or provides cover, or through a square occupied by a creature, the target has cover

In 3-d combat combatants have 8 corners: Top-North-West, T-N-E, T-S-W, T-S-E, Bottom-South-East, B-S-W, B-N-W, B-N-E*.

Basically, the pilars provide fewer squares with cover against elevated opponents, but cover can still be found and used to hide.

*corner locations may very on sloping ground, of which this map has none.

@Veri:You did NOT hear the text that mysterious_A posted. You did hear speech, from the northeast, but not the specifics.
@Godfrey:DC to hear normal speech is 0. DC to make out the words is +10 DC. That means that, were Veri adjacent to you, her roll would have barely been successful. At even 10 feet, she'd have been unable to make out the words, to say nothing of the range you're currently at.

Let refs determine what's heard and seen and stuff.

Now, on to LOS, or rather, pre-LOS questions that need clarifying.

LoS precedent holds that seeing along a line like so neither counts for nor against LoS. It does not hinder a creature standing by a corner from seeing down and along a wall, but it does not allow them to see someone standing on the opposite side of a wall doing the same.
