Spells Question

Hi,

A friend is getting me into D&D and lent me his books to make a character. I decided to make a Sorcer and was wondering about the bonus spells I get from my high charisma. Basically, do I apply the bonus spells to the amount of spells I know, amount of spells I can cast per day, or both?

Spells per day only, and only when you can already cast spells of a given level.

As said, it only counts toward spells/day of spell levels you can cast.
For example, a level 4 sorcerer with a cha of 16 (+3) knows 6 cantrips, 3 1st level spells, and 1 2nd level spell. Each day, he can cast 6 cantrips, 7 1st level spells and 4 2nd level spells (no 3rd level since he cant cast that level yet)
