Private thread for sitandbehitski and his GM(s) only.

A servant at the guardhouse by the gate opens a window.

"May I help you, sir?"

sitandbehitski
2011-07-01, 11:21 AM
"Good day my man!" Sjach answers the servant. "I came by to inquire about the missing feline. I am interested in re-acquiring it for the reward and would like to ask some questions about it's disappearance to help get me started in my quest."

Rizban
2011-07-01, 11:25 AM
"It's the daughter's cat who is missing. You may meet with her."

He opens the gate to let you through. Another servant leads you inside to a small sitting room.

"Please present your card."

sitandbehitski
2011-07-01, 11:38 AM
Sjach gives a slightly puzzled look.

"My card?" He says. "I'm sorry but I'm not sure what card you're asking for."

Rizban
2011-07-01, 11:41 AM
"Formal card of introduction? Ah, right... I see. Well then, perhaps you can at least give me your name, sir?"

sitandbehitski
2011-07-01, 11:52 AM
"I do apologize," Sjach says as he gives an embarrassed bow. "My name is Sjach Shadowleaf. As you can probably tell I'm not of noble birth, but I do possess other qualities that can make me helpful for problems like these."

Rizban
2011-07-01, 11:53 AM
"Very well, I shall return shortly."

The man excuses himself from the room. About fifteen minutes later, the servant returns.

"I'm terribly sorry, but the lady refuses to meet with someone so... common. I am, however, authorized to answer your questions."

sitandbehitski
2011-07-01, 11:58 AM
Sjach gives a slight chuckle and appears to not be very surprised.

"I can assure the good lady that I am many things," Sjach tells the servant. "But common is certainly not one of them, but the fact that she thinks so means I'm doing my job well. I mainly wanted to know when, where and how the pet went missing, and if there have been any reports or sightings of the feline since. And of course the cat's name and favorite food would be good to know as well, for when it comes time collect it after it's been discovered."

Rizban
2011-07-01, 12:04 PM
"It was last seen when she was visiting her father in the Fortress built in the river earlier this week. It ran north along the causeway into the Docks.

It wears a collar with a silver bell, is named Jasper, and its favorite food is dire beaver."

sitandbehitski
2011-07-01, 12:12 PM
"Thank you for the information," Sjach says with another bow. "Those were all the questions I had, I shall take my leave and hopefully the next time you see me I will be returning Jasper safely to the lady."

Unless the servant interrupts Sjach or has something else important to say Sjach will make his way towards the market district to look for some Dire Beaver morsels to help acquire Jasper.

Also, how much daylight is left today?

Rizban
2011-07-01, 12:18 PM
He escorts you back to the front gate and makes sure you leave.

The market does not have any beaver meat, but asking around reveals that the river is currently suffering from a massive infestation of beavers. Constantly breaking down their dams is proving expensive to river trade.

It's perpetually late morning/early afternoon unless plot or significant "adventuring" dictates otherwise.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-01, 12:22 PM
Sjach makes his way to the river and tries to find a beaver by itself that he can attempt to kill for it's meat.

I think that's a survival check, not 100% sure though. If it is here it is:

[roll0]

Rizban
2011-07-01, 12:39 PM
He indeed finds several beavers along the river, though no dire beavers are in sight.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-01, 12:41 PM
Dissapointed, Sjach makes his way to the area in the docks the servant indicated was the area Jasper ran off in.

Rizban
2011-07-01, 01:49 PM
All Sjach knows for sure is that the cat headed that direction. However, as fate would have it, he just happens to see a cat near the gatehouse on the northern edge of the causeway that matches Jasper's description.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-01, 01:52 PM
Not believing his luck, Sjach cautiously approaches the cat.

"Hello there Jasper," He says in a calm voice. "Want to go home, I can take you there to see your owner, Lady Feierabend."

Sjach attempts an animal empathy check on the cat to try to approach and pick it up so he can carry it back to the noble's house.

Animal Empathy check: [roll0]

Rizban
2011-07-01, 01:58 PM
The cat, uninterested in you, ignores your wild empathy attempt just as you start speaking and takes off towards the north.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-01, 02:04 PM
Cursing silently Sjach attempts to follow the cat, and attempts a more stealthy tactic this time.

I will attempt a survival check to follow Jasper and Hide and Move Silently checks to keep him from noticing me before I catch him.

Move Silently: [roll2]

Rizban
2011-07-01, 03:00 PM
He takes off running toward the north, and you quickly lose his trail. He does seem to be going in a rather direct line northward though.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-01, 03:08 PM
Sjach starts picking up the pace steadily moving north keeping his eyes peeled for Jasper or anything else, abandoning his stealth until he see's signs of the cat or danger.

Keep moving north until he spots the sign of Jasper's trail or any other threat or activity, then he will attempt to hide until he can evaluate the situation.

Rizban
2011-07-02, 11:17 PM
Towards the far north end of the slums, he finds the burnt out husks of about 6 buildings. You spot Jasper atop a fallen beam in one of the buildings.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-04, 09:26 PM
Not wanting to risk trying to coax the cat to him, Sjach this time tries to sneak up on Jasper.

Hide and move silently checks to try to sneak up to Jasper and catch him, if successful he will use his rope to make a harness and leash for Jasper to transport him back to the noble.

Jasper sniffs at the air then hisses. He jumps into a hole in the ground near the debris and disappears from view.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-04, 09:37 PM
Sjach goes to the hole and pears down the hole and tries to find where the cat went.

Search: [roll0]

Rizban
2011-07-04, 09:38 PM
The hole appears to be the entrance to the basement of this former building. The stairs were hewn into the clay, so they appear to still be sturdy enough for use despite the fires.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-04, 09:40 PM
Sjach cautiously makes his way down the stairs, keeping his eyes pealed for Jasper or anything else.

Rizban
2011-07-04, 09:48 PM
The stairs descend into the charred husk of a basement. Burnt debris litters the floor, while cracked beams hang heavily fro the ceiling. As you step into the wreckage, your boots crunch on broken pottery, bits of plaster, and other burnt out material you'd rather not ponder. The roughly square space is about 30'x30' and has two exits hewn from the ground, one directly before you and the other in the wall to your left.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-04, 09:52 PM
Sjach carefully examines the area to try to determine which way Jasper went.

Survival check: [roll0]

Rizban
2011-07-04, 10:02 PM
It's extremely difficult to tell which direction the cat went... this time. It looks as if Jasper, or maybe other cats, have come and gone through here several times recently.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-04, 10:04 PM
After being unable to determine for sure which direction he went Sjach decides to just head out and hope to get lucky and heads through the exit directly in front of him.

Rizban
2011-07-04, 10:14 PM
This room is about 30 feet across but extends a good 70 feet to your left. A door in that direction appears to enter into the room you didn't go to. Burnt wreckage litters the floor, including the charred remains of three great wine casks that crashed through the floor from above when the floor gave way. Two exits on the wall in front of you seem to go deeper into this labyrinth of interconnected basements.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-05, 03:51 PM
Sjach continues forward and goes through the exit in front of him on the right.

Rizban
2011-07-06, 01:26 PM
This room is mostly bare except for a small, open shaft in the ground leading down. The sound of moving water echos up from below.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-06, 01:35 PM
"Jasper wouldn't go down there..." Sjach mumbles to himself as he backtracks to the previous room and takes the entrance he hasn't been through yet to the left.

Rizban
2011-07-07, 02:52 PM
Sorry about the delay. Busy work schedule.

Which entrance? The one on the that goes into the room you bypassed or the other one that goes deeper?

sitandbehitski
2011-07-07, 03:02 PM
No problem, the one that went deeper.

Rizban
2011-07-07, 03:14 PM
As you approach the door, four skeletons wielding swords drop from the ceiling just inside of the doorway. Make a Reflex save.

Rizban

Though startled by the skeletons, you manage to retain your footing in the loose debris and filth on which you stand.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-07, 03:35 PM
Sjach regains his composure and moves towards one of the skeletons pulling out his short sword. He stabs at the creature.

Attack: [roll0]
Damage: [roll1]

Note: I believe the intelligence damage added by my third level of Swashbuckler is precision damage so that wouldn't count so I'm not including it. If I am wrong that would be an additional 5 points of damage.

Also an initiative roll if it's needed.

You poke the skeleton, and it swings back and forth on the rope suspending it from the ceiling. It is dead.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-08, 12:54 AM
Sjach tries to gain his composure and cautiously heads further into the room, thankful that no one was around to see him attack a inanimate bag of bones.

Rizban
2011-07-08, 10:40 AM
This room has a fully intact roof, evidence that you are now beneath an unburned part of the slums. The room contains piles of wreckage and garbage dumped here through a trapdoor above. Jasper stands atop one of the smaller mounds, hisses at you, then darts down into the back of the room behind the largest pile of refuse.

sitandbehitski
2011-07-08, 11:38 AM
Sjach looks for any refuse large enough to block the door behind him to prevent Jasper from escaping that way, and does so if he can.

He then moves to back behind the pile of refuse in pursuit of Jasper.

Rizban
2011-07-08, 11:41 AM
As he approaches the pile of refuse, the surface begins to move about, and a number of monstrous centipedes burst forth from within to attack you.

Roll for initiative.

The first two charge you, biting at you as they reach you.

The first one hits you for 1 damage, and you need to make a Fort save vs poison.

The second one's bite catches you before you can prepare yourself for defense, for another 1 damage and another Fort save. The second one only hit you because you're flatfooted.

One more level and I won't be able to be flatfooted! Oh well...

Fort Save 1: [roll0]

Fort Save 2: [roll1]

As he jumps back slightly from the centipede's teeth piercing him he attempts to pull out his sword and counterattack the one nearest to him.

If he is able Sjach will attack one of the Centipede's.

He adeptly slices the centipede's head from its body.

The remaining six centipedes join the surviving one to surround and attack you.

Three hit you for another 3 damage and 3 Fort saves.

You continue to resist their mild poison.

The centipedes block you from escaping through the doorway, but you do manage to slice through another one.

The remaining six surround and attack you again, with three hitting you for another 3 damage and three Fort saves.

Due to substantial numbers of his enemies Sjach starts to fight a big less aggressively and tries to protect himself a bit more while still fighting back.

He again manages to cleanly slice through another centipede, leaving it dead but twitching on the floor.

The remaining five continue to try to attack, mindless vermin that they are.

This time, he defends against all but one that manages to just slip in and hit in a gap in his armor while defends against another one, leaving a nasty bite.

It crits against you for 2 damage, requiring yet another Fort save.Sorry, he rolled a nat 20 and confirmed it... barely.

Suddenly, a warforged pushes its way past the hanging skeletons behind you.
