So i've been wanting to play a Sorc for a long time now, and my DM has decided to use the Ravenloft world as a setting. Since I know Sorc's need to be more versitile with their spells, what would be a fun way to play a Sorc? I was thinking by choosing some enchantment spells to secretly control my party (yeah, im not going to be playing nice, im just going to pretend to be lol)

Enchantment spell would be nice for that purpose, but how long do you think you can keep that schtick up? Meanwhile, more than half of the monsters in the Demiplane of Dread will be immune to your spells, or have will saves/SR high enough that they might as well will be.

I'll throw out Rainbow Servant, since it gets you access to the entire cleric list, it's full progression (text > table), and that will be awesome for undead disposal.

Or Radiant Servant of Pelor, but then I might be biased, I like anything with the word radiant in it. :smalltongue:

This is of course a cleric PrC, so you probably don't care.

Get Command Undead, this is not optional. You can thank me later. Later on get a Lesser Metamagic Rod of Chain Spell (CA) to use with this and it will be hilarious.

I'd strongly recommend using Kobold for your race (Desert Kobold (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/environmentalRacialVariants.htm#desertKobolds) doesn't have a Con penalty), for the Greater Draconic Rite of Passage (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060420a) and the Dragonblood subtype for its interaction with certain spells. Ideally you'd be a Dragonwrought kobold from Eberron, with the Loredrake archtype from Dragons of Eberron, but that's extremely cheesy. For your Draconic Rite of Passage spell-like ability I'd suggest either Benign Transposition or Nerveskitter. Get the Metamagic Specialist ACF from PH2 in place of your familiar. Definitely get the spells Wings of Cover and Wings of Flurry from Races of the Dragon.

Of course you want to prestige class out of Sorcerer as early as possible. If you're using Loredrake then consider taking Kobold Paragon (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060127a) at first level, and then get the other two levels after at least one Sorcerer level. Incantatrix (PGtF) is probably the strongest prestige class choice available. If you can't use that, consider dipping one level of Mindbender, and maybe get Paragnostic Apostle after that. Divine Oracle is also good for any spellcaster, you can get the feat prerequisite by visiting the Frog God's Fane detailed in Complete Scoundrel without spending a feat on it (free if visited during play, or 2,000 gp in your character's background).

For your spell selection, try to get a decent mix of Fort, Reflex, and Will save effects. For example, Web, Glitterdust, and Stinking Cloud are widely considered the best array of spells for the low to mid levels. Try not to pick multiple spells that serve the same purpose or deal the same type of damage. Definitely also pick up Ray of Stupidity from Spell Compendium, it's guaranteed to disable an animal in one hit and can disable many high-HP opponents in only a few shots.

I'd strongly recommend using Kobold for your race...

The problem with doing that in Ravenloft (as it ought to be in most campaigns, but we'll save that for another time) is that every time you go to town, you need to be well disguised or the people will try to kill you.

Non-humans have enough problems with persecution in RL — races which are generally viewed as monsters (and a magic user to boot) should be seen as major threats in any civilized area, and hunted as such.

S funny, but Ravenloft is a lot more like the real world Renaissance than standard D&D...
