Chainsaw Hobbit

The clouds of horrible stench came to the village of Halsaven in a lung-wrenching tide. Thick clouds of it now hang over the place, turning it into a bizarre, foul-smelling hell scape. Cattle sickens, crops wilt, and people succumb to despair, fleeing the village or lying inert, waiting to die. Now the strange vapors are spreading across the countryside, purifying life and slowly snuffing out settlements.

There seems to be only one place the cursed fog could be coming from, the dreaded shack in the woods inhabited by the mad wizard Andolyn. Many legends surround the place. Some say there is a giant cavern under his shack where he keeps an army of deformed human slaves. Some say he has foot-long fingernails as sharp as razors. Some say he keeps hideously bloated demon as a pet. The rumors even go so far as to say the house itself is alive, and there is now wizard. The woodland around the shack is home to many strange (sometimes horrifying) creatures. No villagers dare to approach it, even though their way of life is threatened.

What they need is a band of heroes with enough bravery, training, testosterone, and brute force to confront the wizard and put an end to the madness. You seem to fit the bill.

The path ahead is filthy and soaking wet. Putrid water drips down from the many blackened trees, and clouds of stinking fog hang in the air, obscuring your surroundings. On the horizon you can make out the shape of a wretched, pathetic building half sunken in the bog.

Shae's spirits lift visibly at the sight of the house. Her voice is slightly muffled by the piece of cloth she's using to keep the worst of the smell out of her nose. "Finally! I thought we'd be trudging through this stinking swamp for months."

Cole shifts his shoulders in his heavy leather coat, and pulls his gray hood from his mouth to speak.
"The halfling's the one turning up her nose? For shame Shae, I expected you to at least outlast the elf," he says with a smirk, before re-covering his face with the air-filtering hood.

Shae turns and glares at Cole with her night-black eyes. The effect is somewhat diminished by the three-foot difference in height.

"Bebe's not knee-deep in this muck. And for that, you can do your own scouting on that hovel over there."

Even as he walks swift and surefoot in thick mud, Tavee presses ever so often the tissue of his cloak over his mouth and nose, wheezing - the foul wheater is certainly not improving his condition.
"Thrice-damned wizard. It's getting stronger by the day..." he says, more to himself than to anyone else around him.

The Antigamer

Cole's eyes twinkle behind his hood at the halfling's grousing, and he gives a low bow before turning the bend into a crouch and moving up the path slowly.

As you approach the wizard's shack, you see how decrepit the thing really is. It looks like a pile of rotten, moldy wood held together with fungus-covered rope, rusty pegs, and globs of what looks like decomposing sinew. It is about 25 feet in width and 40 in length. On the front there is a small, cracked door, and a chimney pouring green vapor juts out at an odd angle from the top.

The Antigamer

Cole sneaks up to the door and peers through the crack.

Cole sees a damp and murky room pierced by the warm glow of a fireplace.

The Antigamer can make a spot check for more information, if he wishes.

The room is about 25 feet wide and 20 feet long. In the middle is a tattered carpet, and the place it littered with broken chairs. The fire dances and crackles wildly, almost as if it were alive.

Holding his right hand up behind him in a circle, Cole signals back to Shae and the others that the coast is clear, then straightens up and carefully examines the door while waiting for them.

The door is covered in what looks like claw marks, and is dotted with faintly glowing mushrooms. It is not locked.

As the tall man fiddles around the entrance Tavee stops, crouches and pats his dog on the fur.
"Wanna go take a look inside, boy?"

Any signs of our fourth player yet?

Shae walks over to the door, sticking to the path to avoid the swamp as much as possible. As she approaches Cole, she whispers to him. "So, what do we have here, then?"

The Antigamer

Cole whispers through his breathing hood.
"Small room, some broken chairs, and a fire. No signs of life, except these here," he indicates the claw marks.

Gardener

"Well, then, we'd better take a closer look."

Shae pushes open the door of the hut and steps inside.

The room is much as it appeared, filled with broken furniture and with a fire dancing in a fireplace at the side. At the end are two doors five feet apart.

Before you can examine further, the fire takes on the shape of a horribly clawed monster and begins to crawl towards you.

"Elemental!" Cole hisses, drawing into a fighting stance.

Instead of moving up to attack, the beast stands its ground and unleahes a blast of smoke, flame, ash, and ember at Cole.

He takes [roll0] damage, and can make a DC 15 reflex save to cut the damage in half.

The elemental fails to withstand both attacks and crumples into ash. An enraged scream emanates from the ceiling, and Cole is hit in the back by a magic missile.

Near the ceiling floats a small yet terrifying creature. Its bloated form wobbles sickeningly, its undersized wings flap in an uneven rhythm, and and bears its rotten teeth like a feral beast. Its eyes flash as it chuckles manically, and it starts to cast another spell.

Tor barks furiously, ready to fight but unable to reach the floating creature. In the meanwhile, Tavee notices Cole's posture is more shaky than it was before, and reaches out to heal him while mumbling a few words, an azure light suffusing his left hand as he touches him.

I doubt I am in that creature's threatened space, so...

Cole doesn't bother to nod his thanks to Tavee, simply rolling forward with revitalized energy, pulling a coated dagger from his boot as he does so, flinging the weapon at the creature.

Dagger is coated with Blister Oil:
"When the oil touches bare skin, the victim must make a DC 15 Fortitude save to avoid painful red blisters that spring up on the affected area of skin, dealing 1d4 points of damage per application used. In addition, the victim takes a –2 penalty on Dexterity-based checks, including Reflex saves, for 2d4 days. Magical healing applied to this damage removes the blisters and the penalty. Natural healing can remove the damage normally, but the penalty on Dexterity-based checks remains until magical healing is applied or the 2d4 days elapse"

The demon chuckles gleefully as it ducks out of the way of the dagger. The thing then fires another bolt of magic at Tor, mutters a word in some foreign tongue, and disappears into thin air.

Tor takes 1d4+1 damage.

As Tor whimpers for the scratch, Tavee calls out for it.

"Back down, boy!"

He then scours the ceiling intently, seeking and waiting for the monster to reappear at any moment.

Free action to have Tor 'back down' (he knows it as a trick) and then I ready an action to cast a Lesser Orb of Electricity the moment the flying thingie reappears, if it ever appears again anytime soon.

Shae scans the room looking out for the little monster, energy cracling around her right hand.

Cole straightens up, another dagger in his hand poised to throw. He moves cautiously towards where his first dagger stuck in the wall.
