just a thought i had while at work today. if you have the silent spell feat and use it to cast a spell without needing verbal component. does that mean you can say anything you want while casting the spell.

Opens up a few interesting things.
"BARATHA'S GIANT SPHERE OF ANNIHALATION!!! (while casting darkness)
"Did you hear that?" (while casting ghost sound)
"see he's fine." (while casting heal X wounds)
"Why don't you just CHILLLLLL!!!" (while being Mr. Freeze erm... casting cone of cold)

essentially does the silent spell feat allow you to make your verbal components whatever you want on that spell?

No. Silent Spell has no effect on a spell without verbal components. (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/feats.htm#silentSpell)

Although, nothing in the rules of spell components (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicOverview/spellDescriptions.htm#components) say that you can't speak while casting spells without a verbal requirement, feat or no.

I was evidently not clear. if you use silent spell to remove the required verbal component of a spell then can you say whatever you want?

I don't see why not.

Oh, I see what you're asking.

A silent spell can be cast with no verbal components. Spells without verbal components are not affected. A silent spell uses up a spell slot one level higher than the spell’s actual level.

Special
Bard spells cannot be enhanced by this metamagic feat.

That brings us right back around to "go right ahead" from what I know of RAW.

I'm highly amused.

A more interesting question is what happens if you apply Silent Spell to a spell where the verbal component is an integral part of the spell's results, such as Suggestion (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/suggestion.htm)? For spells like this, making it Silent implies you can give the suggestion mentally. For example, saying out loud "I suggest you give us your gold because otherwise we'll kill you" is suspicious. However someone seemingly just choosing to give you their stuff (because they failed their saving throw against the Silent spell) is a lot less likely to attract unwanted attention.

I make them do something... with my mind!

Wait, is Suggestion language-dependent, though?

A DM might consider trying to keep track of another train of thought while casting a spell to be distracting enough to require a Concentration check. However, there's a feat that lets you do exactly this: Nonverbal Spell, from Planar Handbook. It's not even a metamagic, so you don't have to worry about casting time or specific preparation - you merely do still have to make some sort of noise.

Wait, is Suggestion language-dependent, though?Yes, the Suggestion (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/suggestion.htm) spell is [Language-Dependent (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicOverview/spellDescriptions.htm#descriptor)]. That means: "A language-dependent spell uses intelligible language as a medium for communication. If the target cannot understand or cannot hear what the caster of a language-dependant spell says the spell fails." Hence Suggestion, although you can apply Silent Spell to it, normally won't do anything useful if you do. The way around this is to make sure you have Telepathy (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#telepathy) (e.g. take a level of Mindbender PrC) before controlling people with your mind via Silent Suggestions.

Actualy, the nonverbal spell feat only changes it from words to just noises, I beleive. So you are still making noise, it's just nonsense.
And I actualy thought of that one a while ago. "Fear the Evergrowing Pit of Doom!" (actual spell was a silanced illusion).

I expect that chicanery is a regular part of illusion casting, anyway.

Silent Power Word: Kill.

Of course, just pretend it's related to Death Urge of somehow. Alternatively, you can pretend to be Lelouch and turn up the HAM.

Wait, are you implying that you couldn't ALREADY say whatever the hell you wanted when casting a spell? First Rule of Flavor* and all that . . .

*In all things, fluff as necessary, or as awesome.
