Moranica or DM only. All others [insert pithy comment here]

Alfonso walks for a while before coming across a hostel, and once he does, it seems the floodgates have opened. He quickly finds six places who advertise reasonable prices and fine accommodations. From the looks of them, all these hostels are quite cheap and you'll be getting what you pay for.

As to the disappearances, it seems that they've been happening once a month for years, and no one's ever been caught.

Moranica

Alfonso decides to check in at one of the places and says he'll be staying for at least a week.

After that he goes to one of the better local bars in the area and spends the rest of the day there. His goals there are (he uses up to 20 gp to buy rounds and info:

To show his face and to get people to know him.
To learn all the local gossip.
To learn about possible undead trouble in the city.
To learn more about the missing people.
To learn about who's influencial in Old town and who's the opposite (political situation).
To have fun.

Most the gossip for Old Town is meaningless drivel or already covered in the Town Crier in more accurate detail. One odd tidbit is that it seems that several fires have been started around town, and the folk fear an arsonist is behind them all. They say some were very clearly deliberately set.

It seems like the city does not permit the raising of undead within its premises and actively hunts down undead. Still, rumors persist that in fact, there is a cabal of undead within the city. No one seems to agree even on which district they would be in.

Nothing new was learned about the missing persons.

In Old Town, the city council meets every week to discuss matters of the city's well-being. It seems that the head of the city council has come into disfavor recently. Any inquiries into why cause people to look moderately fearful and close up, refusing to talk about it. Whatever it was, the scandal is high. Politically, the City Watch has quite a bit of influence, and you suspect that the two are somehow related. Herman Nitcht, the head of the city council, had never been a strong advocate of the city watch, denouncing them for corrupt brigands in uniform.

Fun was had, and all of it ended up costing [roll0] gp.

total time spent: [roll1] hours.

Satisfied and tired Alfonso heads back to his hostel. After saying a quick good night to whoever is still up downstairs, he goes up to his room, washes and goes to sleep.

Certainly a good town I'd say. Plenty to do and plenty of people and problems to keep me out of sight. I won't be able to work on my collection though, I'd need to get my own place first. Tomorrow I'll start working on the money for it. Might as wel do some "recruiting" if I can. Perhaps I should start with visiting that old ruin I read about. ... Yes, I'll go there. In disguise of course. But first some sleep

Not sure if I can just continue to next day or do you do the nights?

planswalker
2011-07-07, 08:18 AM
saying... "I rest the night. Next morning I..." is sufficient.

oh, and the 14 gp was the cost of the drinks. Lodging for a month is 15 gold.

Sleep was had.

Dressed up as a vagrant Alfonso heads out to find the farmer with the ruin.

planswalker
2011-07-07, 08:44 AM
It seems that the farmer's house itself has been recently ravaged. He is nowhere to be seen. You recall that the crier said the ruins were in his field.

Moranica
2011-07-07, 09:34 AM
No more farmer, huh, guess entry is free then.

Alfonso checks the house for any bodies and then goes out into the field, looking for ruins.

planswalker
2011-07-07, 02:34 PM
He finds no bodies in the house, but there is an entrance to some sort of ruins in the middle of his field.

Moranica
2011-07-07, 02:43 PM
Alfonso prepares himself before going in.

Ok, a ruin, this could be interesting, but also dangerous. Best to go slow and carefull with this one.

He casts Hide from undead (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/hideFromUndead.htm) (1 hr duration) and False life (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/falseLife.htm) [roll0] (6 hr duration) and enters, keeping an arrow and his bow ready at all times.

I noticed I forgot to buy arrows. Mind if I still bought at character creation? I have the gp for them.

planswalker

yes, this once.

gotta love copy/paste

replace "early morning" with "early afternoon".

Moranica
2011-07-08, 03:07 PM
A skeleton hand, grasping an arrow, huh, that could be my symbol if I didn't know any better.

Alfonso then casts detect magic and tries to make the most of the engravings.

Knowledge arcane [roll0]
Knowledge religion [roll1]
I don't have spellcraft atm

It is tasty copypasta indeed.

planswalker
2011-07-08, 03:40 PM
Without spellcraft, you are unable to identify the magical auras that the circle is giving off.

Moranica
2011-07-08, 03:44 PM
Alfonso is such a noob, and why don't necromancers have 0 lvl spells, like light

Alfonso steps on the engravings and tries to see into the darkness.

He has low-light vision, but not darkvision

planswalker
2011-07-08, 03:53 PM
When he steps on the magical runes, he needs to make a will save.

Moranica
2011-07-08, 03:56 PM
Will save [roll0]

planswalker
2011-07-08, 04:00 PM
He manages to resist the first horrible, life-threatening curse he's come across. He feels thought that it would be wise to remove himself from the engraving quickly.

Moranica
2011-07-08, 04:03 PM
He quicly steps off and continues on into the darkness. He looks for torches on the walls. Should it be to dark to see, he'll go back to the city and buy some torches and flint and steel.

planswalker
2011-07-08, 04:07 PM
On the other side of the engraving is a wooden door, presumably leading to the hallway beyond.

Moranica
2011-07-08, 04:09 PM
Boldly, Alfonso opens the door.

planswalker
2011-07-08, 04:28 PM
The hallways beyond is 10 ft by 45 ft. Rubble clutters the first ten feet of the passage, and an open pit five feet wide lies just beyond that.

Moranica
2011-07-08, 04:32 PM
Alfonso tries to jump the gaping hole after searching through the rubble. [roll0]

You make the search checks etc right? It's +1

planswalker
2011-07-08, 04:40 PM
no, actually, you do. Except in the case of elves and the automatic search check for hidden doors.

You clear the jump. The remaining 30 feet of hallway does not look particularly ominous.

Moranica
2011-07-08, 04:46 PM
Late search check. [roll0]

Wow, everything went ok so far. I have to remember this when I'm getting out though. Don't want to be successfull and end up dead in some bloody pit.

Alfonso continues on.

planswalker
2011-07-08, 04:57 PM
Whatever it is you just searched for, you did not find it. Most likely because whatever it is isn't here. You arrive at a descending flight of stairs that turns right 20 feet down.

Moranica
2011-07-08, 05:01 PM
I was searching for a cloack of the archmage. Blast!

Continuing down!

Oh dear, stairs. That usually means it's a big dungeon below here.... well, let's have a look.

planswalker
2011-07-08, 05:09 PM
Beyond the entrance, the stairs themselves seem to be made from a black marble and not the red stone of the floor above. As you walk down the stairs, nothing seems to happen.

Moranica
2011-07-08, 05:19 PM
You mean I don't seem to make any progress?

Alfonso sits down on the stairs to overthink this new problem.

planswalker
2011-07-08, 05:21 PM
no, that's not what I meant. Just that no traps seem to go off.

Moranica
2011-07-08, 05:24 PM
After some thought Alfonso decides to continue on downstairs.

planswalker
2011-07-08, 05:28 PM
When you reach the last step and step off onto the ground, a pressure plate is set off. Spikes shoot down from the ceiling and deal you [roll0] damage.

Moranica
2011-07-08, 05:29 PM
Frankly, I have no idea how it would feel to have temporary hp getting knocked off. Also, no ref save

Alfonso is shocked as the spikes shoot from the ground.

planswalker
2011-07-08, 05:31 PM
nope. attack roll.

His false life gives him false pain as it's harmed.

Moranica
2011-07-08, 05:33 PM
It takes Alfonso only seconds to realise the pain is not real.

Pfff, got me good that one.

He continues on.

planswalker
2011-07-08, 05:37 PM
The hall that these stairs open up to could be twin to the first, if not for the lack of cursed rune circle. There is a large tome sitting on the floor 30 feet in.

Moranica
2011-07-08, 05:46 PM
Alfonso slowly approaches the tome and tries to read it.

Also knowledge arcane and religion [roll0] [roll1]

planswalker
2011-07-08, 05:48 PM
As he approaches the tome, he steps on a pressure plate and more spikes come out of the ceiling, dealing him [roll0] damage.

It appears to be a comprehensive collection of all the laws of the city of Aldhaven.

Moranica
2011-07-08, 05:51 PM
Hmm, this could come in handy one day.

Alfonso heals himself, recasts False life [roll0] and tries to take the tome.

After that, he continues his exploration.

Moranica
2011-07-08, 06:09 PM
Gotto go sleep now, it's 1 am here. Good night!

planswalker
2011-07-08, 06:15 PM
He gets to the far end of the hall and more stairs without finding any more "surprises", and he hears a splashing noise come from ahead.

planswalker
2011-07-08, 06:24 PM
You hear the sound of footsteps coming from the stairs above.

planswalker
2011-07-08, 06:30 PM
You hear the spike trap at the stairs behind you go off once more and hear a cry of pain from behind you.

planswalker
2011-07-08, 06:55 PM
He walks up to you and when he's 10 feet away from you with the other pressure plate between the two of you, he says, "Hello there, I see more than one person has come looking for treasures. Do tell friend, would you be interested in a partnership?"

Moranica
2011-07-09, 05:02 AM
Hmmm, from the cries of pain I gather he's definatly not a rogue. Still, he'd be good for testing for traps.

Alfonso turns around and casts undetectable alignment.

"Sure, Alfonso di Ullsk is my name, sorcerer by fame. We could certainly work together for this venture. Lead the way!"

What does he/she look like?

Is he/she a fast poster?

planswalker
2011-07-09, 08:57 AM
fast enough to catch up with you when he/she started this quest 24 hours RL time behind...

To answer your first question: let me get a description from both of you to transcribe over, unless you'd like to start a teamup thread now.

Moranica
2011-07-09, 09:01 AM

Zombie reflex [roll2] and [roll3]

planswalker
2011-07-17, 12:42 AM
you and the zombie both fail and take full damage.

Moranica
2011-07-17, 12:47 AM
Oh dear. Im at -5 zombie at 12

planswalker
2011-07-17, 01:02 AM
then I guess you're bleeding out.

Moranica
2011-07-17, 01:05 AM
Should I roll stabilization checks?

Moranica
2011-07-17, 01:09 AM
Also, does the ogre zombie keep attacking?

checks [rollv]5d100[rollv] 1-10 stabilises.

planswalker
2011-07-17, 01:09 AM
yeah... unless your partner can solo all three of them and heal you both in 5 rounds, you'll need them. On the plus side, the ogre zombie still gets to attack.

Moranica
2011-07-17, 01:11 AM
checks [roll0] 1-10 stabilises.

planswalker
2011-07-17, 01:13 AM
ooh. ouch. you'll bleed to death if no one stabilizes you. wanna continue rp'ing the zombie until it disappears or just make a new character? Tough break with the whole death on your first adventure. PVP is like that.

Moranica
2011-07-17, 01:25 AM
He will attack. I die regardless. Would I have stabilized I could easily heal myself.

So, I would like to re apply with a new character. Could I still make a new dread necromancer?

Moranica
2011-07-17, 01:27 AM

Go ahead, you can play it. Passing away, Alfonso feels proud having set everyone against eachother. He hadn't included dying in his plan though.

planswalker
2011-07-17, 01:33 AM
oh well. Alf was fun. feel free to make a new dread necro. Or even just the same one with new stat and hp rolls.

Moranica
2011-07-17, 01:35 AM
I will!, might take a different race, just for fun.
