I've had more than a few forum "hiccups" resulting in my double posting something.

every time I notice this occuring, I make sure to delete the double post.

however, I've noticed there is a text-line for "reason for deletion"

having deleted enough of these things to know, I know that you don't HAVE to fill that out to delete a post.

but I'm curious.

who, if anybody, sees those reasons?
the local mods?
Roland?
The Giant Himself?

nobody?
the thing in the darkness?

just a curiosity.

A log entry is created every time a post is made, edited or deleted (as well as for various other activities). You do not have to include a reason for deletion, but in doing so it can make things easier for us when we have to check the logs for malicious activities.

Unlike your deleted posts, which may still exist temporarily in a backup, the log entries will remain in the system forever.
