Just a quick question: would anyone happen to know what the exact size measurements for a D&D cart are and what the weight and cost of iron or steel is by cubic inch?

A cart is 10' long by 5' wide by 5' tall (A&EG). But I couldn't tell you about the iron.

Not sure on the exact cart measurements, but iron is 1sp per pound, so just convert that as necessary.

Ok...how much does iron weigh per sq. foot/sq. inch?

Zero pounds.

On a more serious note:
Densities:
7.87 g·cm−3
7870 kg·m−3
491 lb·ft−3
0.284 lb·in−3

Cost Ratios:
2.84 cp·in−3
49.1 gp·ft−3
35.2 in3·gp−1

Also, there are plenty of unit converters online if you don't want to do it all by hand.

Well, I already did it all by hand, so tough luck for me.
On a somewhat related note, does anyone know a cost-effective way to levitate a 12175-pound hunk of wood and iron?

There's also the 3.0 Arms and Equipment version which is listed as a large vehicle with a face of 10 ft. by 5 ft.. Without checking any books, this should translate to 10' in a 3.5 game.

Yeah...except I'm covering it in 1 inch of iron plating. Yes, I'm making a hover-tank.

Also, ignore the 12175 part. It's actually 6070, the previous number was when I was trying to cover it with 2 inches of iron.

Permanencied Animate Objects? It's mostly made out of wood right?

Edit: Shining South (AKA where Steamers come from) has the 4th-level Sorc/Wiz spell Suspension, which lasts for days and allows you to levitate a single nonliving object weighing up to 1000 lb/CL.

Movement is only vertical though, and you need to maintain concentration to move the object (up to 45 ft/round). If you cease concentrating, the object will remain in place, suspended in mid-air.

Of course, you can always employ Newton's Third Law (read: Decanter of Endless Water) to move your hover-cart laterally, 'though that might kill some catgirls. Alternatively, some sails might also work.

M'kay. Without knowing how many people you intend to cart around, a chariot might be in order. According to the 3.0 A&EG a chariot has a face of 5' by 5'. Again, without checking my resource documents, this should translate to 5' in 3.5 terms.

Ring gate inertaless momentum drive! Expensive and kills all catgirls in the universe!

Use ring gates to build jet engines. Just sink one end in the ocean.

Mass restrictions prevent that. What you want to do is use the ringgate to cancel out all forces not effecting the gate itself. This is done by hooking a unbreakable object through both gates (a riventine dumbell formed through the gate is unbreakable). Now take the gates and conect them to each other with more rivintine, with the gates faceing so that the two ends of the bumbell face in the same direction.

Now we have a situation that any pull on the dumbell is canceld out by it's own reaction through the ringgate. The only way to move the gate setup it to grab the center piece conecting the two gates, which moves like it is not connected to anything.

Now you can bind a small air elemental to envelope the rings and fly your ship around. (200ft perfect fly speed I think) The ship hangs off a riventine frame centered over the dumbell and suppotred by it. The ship moves as if it has no mass or inertia relative to the central ringgate core.

The ship can be as large as you want and magehand would still be able to lift and carry it.

I have always wanted to do this in a game just to have an airship in a non eberon game.
