I posted on the Dr Who thread in Media discussion recently and I can see my post but my reply has not been marked as the latest. What's up with that?

Known bug.

...Maybe it should be stickied somehow? :smallconfused:

These problems solve themselves once someone makes another post to the thread, then everything works fine again.

This is actually a different issue from the one that's been popping up so much lately.

The issue that's been getting a lot of threads about it is one where someone makes a post, the thread list says it's there, subscriptions are updated, etc., but if you check the thread you won't see the post. The post in question is always the first one on a new page, and the problem is that somehow the new page failed to be created. This gets fixed when another post is made to the thread, and in the mean time the invisible post can be viewed by looking in the thread summary in the reply page.

The issue reported in this thread is that the post is made and is in fact visible properly in the thread, but the previous post is still reported as the last one according to the threads list, the thread is not moved up to the top of the list, and subscriptions are not updated. This is all fixed when another post is made, of course, as the new post triggers all of these updates, but in the mean time no one knows to check the thread to see what the new post says.

I've had this happen once for one of my posts, and I checked and saw it for this one before the next post came along to fix it.

Yeah, it's a new issue. Usually after a 50X error, posted post is properly visible, but thread view in both the User CP and thread three is not updated.

I've seen it at least three or four times in the last three days, in both my threads and other people's.

Edit: Clarification. The problem douglas describes as a new one (post being visible in thread, but subscriptions not updated, thread not being moved to the top and post not registering as the newest one), is the one I've seen three or four times recently.

Next time this happens, try editing and saving your existing post. Let me know the results.

It just happened to me here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=210591), so I tried that. It didn't work. The post before is still shown as the most recent.

So, regarding the well known bug whre the thread updates but the post does not appear, do we know what causes it? I've encountered it 4 times in the past 3 weeks.

This thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=11606980#post11606980) is currently having this problem.

I edited it as a test, and nothing updated. I put in the edit that nobody should reply, so I hope Rawhide gets a chance to look at it.

It is there now, so I suppose Rawhide did it.

You're thinking of the wrong error. The error has nothing to do with the post being visible in the thread. The error is that "The Murderer's Party [3.5]" is listed in the Finding Players (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=51) forum on page 2 with Axinian's post stated to be the latest rather than where it should be on page 1 in the position Archwizard's post at 4:47 (eastern US) should put it with him listed as the last poster.

Heh, true. Had a bit of trouble finding it there too since I looked for a thread posted in "today" and I passed midnight. ^^

So the link to the last post links to Axinians post too, but the thread counts the post when you check on Archwizard's collected posts and in the thread. Interesting.

Yes, this.

The thread is now showing up properly. I didn't do anything to it, don't know if anyone else did. But I've been very active in that forum for quite some time, and this is the first time I've seen it display properly.

Thank you for that.

Net result: Darn, that's one sticky little problem. Simply editing it or other things won't fix it.

Do you have an idea of what might be causing it? The other issue is for the first post on a new page, but this one appears to be random.

Not completely random; 50X errors are related somehow.

I should probably mention I got one of those errors when it happened to me.

This has happened to me, in this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=11629219#post11629219) thread. I have linked to the post that is currently labeled as being the latest post in the thread, even though I have responded to it.

Just like to chime in that I've received a few of these, and they all happen after a 500 internal server error (I'm guessing this is what is meant by a x50?)

Also happened in this thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=11615888#post11615888). Also after an internal server error.
(So threads probably have a direct reference to their latest post, interesting. Ah speculating about the database structure would be more fun if I couldn't just get my hands on a vbulletin forum and read the source.)
Made white for irrelevance^^

Happened in this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=11659575#post11659575) thread, no server errors here.

Seems like if I toggle my page settings again it fixes it. I display 40 Posts/Page, rather than the standard what, 25?

I recall there recently being a double invisible posting thing happening in the last random banter, it took a third post to be able to see, jut wanted to report since it used to be fixed by someone posting...

From my experience, 'invisible' posts seem to happen when someone gets a 500 error as they hit submit. The post goes through, but subscriptions don't update and the thread doesn't get 'bumped'. It's possible it happened twice in a row for the two invisible posts?

I'd guess that's just a case of the "fix" post getting hit by the same bug. That should happen about as often compared to single bugged posts as singled bugged posts compared to posts.

Just got one here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=11794610#post11794610) without a 500 error, so it seems the two are not necessarily connected, in case anyone was suspecting that.

I just made a post (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=11848067&postcount=127) that is not recognized as the most recent, but does appear. There was a 500 error involved.
