View Full Version : Prediction for #800

We haven't had a letter strip in a while. It would be absolutely hilarious if #800, when we were expecting the climax, would be a letter strip. That, or another intermission strip.

Maybe a character death...

Deju vu. :/ this topic has been brought up a lot.

Chances are there will be nothing worth noting on page 800

In the middle of the current action, it might be a new LGer showing up.
Durkon's opposite. Maybe Hylgia? Unlikely.

They made a joke about nothing happening recently, so in all likelihood there'll be no mention of the milestone this time. Can't imagine we'll see anything until the 1000.

Given how slowly the comic updates, I think an intermission or letter strip would just tick people off tbh.

What is a "letter strip"? :smallconfused:

I assume they mean one of these (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0033.html)

I doubt it will be anything special. I think Mr. Burlew has pretty much given up on page-number-spcific events.

Which is quite a shame, since it helps me remember in what order things happened when I'm looking for a specific strip.

Eh, The Giant write according to plot. The most he'd ever do is put in a throwaway reference, anyway, 800 isn't really an important number except for the double zero, I think the only thing where I'd honestly be expecting anything interesting anymore would be 1000.

I predict that 800 will have A member of the Order doing something. In at least one panel. Its happened in 5 of them so far.

100 - 600 all had SOMETHING (either a big event or a reference).

But 700 really did nothing of note. I wouldn't be surprised if Rich is trying to get away from doing anything special for any certain number.

700 did do something special. It didn't have the Oots in it as 300 did before it. Plus like 300 it had several massive bits of foreshadowing like Tsukio's ritual and Mitd knowing it was half a ritual.

Rich puts something important in every comic, we get massive stuff in every one. That was just a regular comic by our terms.

I think it would be hilarious if they finally counteracted the "I bet the readers were expecting something special about strip n00" with something that actually was memorable.

There have been a few memorable centennial strips. 200, 300, 400 in particular. 500 had a nice transition, but not terribly memorable. 600 and 100 lampshaded their lack of much interesting. 700 just kinda happened.

So I went back and had a look... except for 700 all n00's had either something more or less important happening or referencing the lack of it. Though, I'm not sure if 800 will have something. Sure, the obvious joke is: Roy will die again but... well, I don't really believe in that. Maybe Belkar's death but it feels kind of early. I'd not be surprised of nothing happens but e.g. a longer battle with the LG would be appropriate.

Hang on, that gives me an idea. What if it was one page of very little, followed by a character saying "Meh, I thought they'd do something special for-". Then all hell breaks loose.

Probably not that likely, but it would amuse me greatly.

My prediction?

Hilgya turning up in front of Durkon, carrying a bundle...

"Durkon....she's yours."

Hm, this is a very interesting idea. Massamune might be on to something.

I say it is gonna be like this:
795 - Roy died
796-799 - Elan, Haley, Belkar and V die as well
800 - Hilgya shows up, teams up with Durkon and there is "Go Team Cleric" stuff again, they start defeating the LG and raising the rest of the OotS (except for Belkar for some reason)
8WhenTheJobIsDone - I like the idea of a Kinder Surprise, it is so appropriate for this comic :)

In 800 AD, Charlemagne was crowned Emperor of the West by Pope Leo. Perhaps OOTS will salute this historical number by depicted Xykon (who wears a crown.

Alternatively, the Giant may decide to use #800 to reveal that OOTSverse's numbering system is not decimal as we know it (which would not be surprising, considering that OOTShominids have three manual digits.) I theorize that while the two least least significant digits in the OOTS numbering system is base 10, the hundreds digit is base 8 and therefore #799 will be followed by #1000.
I believe I can state without fear of contradiction that this theory has not been previously proposed, which is its greatest virtue.

I like the idea, but my problems with it:

0) We are already on comic 796.

1) Seems like it would be silly to make him seem like he died only to make him die one comic later.

2a) Elan won't die. It would kill the drama, seeing as his eventual victory over Nale won't be a real victory since Nale did kill him. It's only personal opinion, but it just seems like it would not be right with the story (though it would be a nice contrast to Elan's knowing everything that's going to happen because it's a story, a sort of "Huh, didn't see that coming.")
b) Haley is already stone.
c) Belkar already had his fight. It would have to be something pretty rediculous to kill him.
d) V might die actually if something fortunate doesn't happen, though that's pretty likely.

3) The dwarves might actually do that if everyone dies.

I'm really pulling for something incredibly game-changing happening! Of course, it's always 50/50 whether or not the Giant just makes it a normal strip and hangs a lampshade on it.

Belkar dies?

Well, it does occur to me that Belkar is inevitably going to be drawn into this battle by Sir Scraggly attacking Mr. Scruffy, and probably quite soon. While there would be some irony in his being slain by Yukyuk, it seems more probable that he will be killed by Thog or Z.

Nevertheless, I predict Belkar's death at someone's hands in #800.

Probably not that likely, but it would amuse me greatly.I was thinking that, too. Durkon and Malack having a slow-paced, friendly conversation, ending with something likeMalack: Do you guys not do anything special every hundredth strip?
:durkon: Usually, but sometimes we just make jokes about nothing special happening.
Malack: Ah, then I guess this is one of those--
*Elan, Nale, Sabine, and/or Durkon's opposite come crashing in, leading into a multi-page strip showing all the battles currently happening/ending*
