360 Remote Help

I'm having serious problems with my Xbox 360 wireless remote. Whenever I try to turn it on, the light for it flickers for a moment before dying. I thought maybe the batteries in it were dead, so I put in new ones, but I am still having the same problem.
Can someone tell me why my remote is acting like this?

Don't how or why, but it sounds like it's become disassociated with your 360. Next time you turn it on, try pressing the small white button on the front of the console. This should re-associate the controller and the console.
