Why didn't WoTC make an environmental book about the woodlands. Anyway, I'm about to start a new campaign for my players and I've decided to go for a jungle/forest world--at least that will be most of it.

I would really appreciate any suggestions you might have, especially with creatures to inhabit this world. Anything from WoTC or even third party or homebrew is fine with me. I really want this place to be very wooded and the more well-suited the creatures are to the jungle and forest, the better.

I'm thinking the goblins equivalent in this world will be the Tasloi.

Any suggestion for creatures, resources, etc, would be much appreciated.

Editing for why they would be good choices
Monster Manual
Gray render (huge creature capable of uprooting trees that usually picks a group to protect)
Centaur
Assassin vines
Choker (refluffed a bit, would work wonders in a forest)
Dinosaurs, dire animals, regular animals
Dryads
Ettercaps (vermin people)
Girallon (four armed gorillas)
Krenshar (howling canine things with sort of skinless looking faces)
Lycanthropes (and Shifters from Eberron)
Nymph (really, any fey)
Owlbear
Satyr
Shambling Mound
Spider eater (nasty bugs)
Sprites
Tendriculous
Treant
Unicorns

Elven hounds (Races of the Wild)

Shining South from the Forgotten Realms has a fair bit of jungle-based stuff. You're looking for the lands of Chult; that's the Realms' jungle pastiche. Or alternatively, stuff from Maztica though I'm not familiar with the material.

Meanwhile, off the top of my head, couatls fit the mode nicely.

Monster Manual 2
Banshees (screams echoing through the forest would be creepy)
Blood Apes (apes that can enlarge themselves for combat)
Boguns (little mulch fey creatures druids make)
Cloaked Ape (gliding apes)
Corollax (exotic birds that use Color Spray)
Felldrakes would make for nasty predators
Firbolgs (basically Paul Bunyan)
Forest Sloth
Gambol (killer baboons)
Forest Giant
Julajimus (An even bigger killer baboon)
Legendary Animals
Needlefolk
Orcwort (trees that drop humanoid pods that kidnap people for it to eat)
Red Sundews (walking acidic plants)
Spellgaunt (giant magic eating spiders)
Spirit of the Land
Sylph
Twig Blights

Stirges. Not as enemies, though. Use them as mosquitos. Make sure your players are never at full health, keep them running, scared, and hopefully cowering at your awesomeness. Seriously, they're great for some fluff for the region, if it's a humid area.

Hadozee, Phanatons, Beguilers, and--if you like--Arboreal Halflings (see the link below).

There are at least a few creatures that come to mind, like trolls and koblods, that can easly be refluffed as forest dwelling creatures.

Or Forestkith goblins.

I am always partial to the scaly ones. Lizardfolk tribes of various subspecies and dinosaurs and crocodilians in the swamp is an old standby of mine. Lizardfolk allow for some non-combat interaction, but provide something a bit more interesting than "we head to the tavern and roll gather information!".

You should also consider the Greenspawn creatures from MMIV as well as bats, spiders, snakes, and fey of a variety of kinds.

Expeditious Retreat Press has the Monster Geographica: Forest that covers forests and jungles both. Most of the online gaming stores carry it as a PDF.

Also consider Skiurids and Hobyas.

green dragons for forest or jungles, blacks can work in jungles hiding in big rivers.
elves of course but they basicaly go every where.
a lot of the basic low level huminoids are adaptable enough that you can stick them in any enviorment. just stick face paint on orcs give them blowguns and loin cloths and their you go jungle orcs.

Thanks, all, for these great suggestions. Please keep them coming. I've already incorporated many of your great suggestions--thanks to you.

A grove of Orcworts would be an awesome way to make a patch of jungle; the trees are too strong to be killed but the soldiers they send raiding are replaceable.

Races of the Wild, not technically a setting book, it has a bit of stuff for this kind of setting.

problem with an orcwort is they are so slow and have no ranged attack a low level warlock can kill them despite their huge cr just by taking the extended range invocation and walking backwards after every shot.
