Looking back, I think it's a been way too long of a time since I've really posted a picture of myself here(I doubt most of you even know who I am, since it's been so long since I've been in FB. :smalltongue:). So, I guess it's time for a picture dump.

First off, me as a baby. I tell you, I was a dinky one.

And, recently, I had a terrible shaving incident. There was fur everywhere I tell you. :smalleek:

After:

Part 1, The horrific damage (and sunburn):

Part 2, My abysmal (and blurry) attempts at covering the shameful lack of fur. :smallfrown:

In Sweden you're not supposed to wear a bridal crown if you're not a virgin and you're not supposed to have a white wedding gown if you had borne children. The amount of energy people used to put into determining the bride's reproductive status frightens me sometimes.

I have to agree. Of course, this means we'll have to see a picture of it when it gets all curly again.

And your irritation because some people happen to really like something you don't and express frustration when people assume things from that show are from something entirely different makes it okay to be angry when they've done absolutely nothing to you but be on the same forum? And you've never been frustrated because someone didn't get a reference you made or assumed the reference was to something else?
I didn't say what he did was okay; I said he had a point. There is a distinct difference between the two. Now, if you want to continue this, please take it to private messages, so that we don't fill the thread with off-topic, irate posts.

Getting the thread away from ponies, if only temporarily, here I am. Not owning an actual camera, I had to make do with my phone, so the dimensions are somewhat odd and the quality is at best, mediocre. I blacked out certain things to CMA just in case of...something. I don't know, it's policy.

Go ahead.

On facial hair, it depends. Some people it doesn't suit. But some it does. In the end it's down to personal choice.
Myself, I was very opposed to the idea of growing my facial hair until I decided to do it for a show last year, and since then I've kept it, remodelling it every few months. But I do intend to go back to clean-shaven eventually. At some point.

It is commonly known as a bristlenose. I can't imagine why.

The official name is ancistrus. It isn't very scary when it's only four inches long.

Of course, when it grows to giant size and moves to R'lyeh, then it's scary...

It's pretty! Some kind of sea anemone?Nope, it's a type of bivalve, like a pippi or I guess like a clam (also there were giant clams). It has allll those tentacle thingies so anything wanting to eat it will grab a mouthful of those, which break off, leaving the predator with a somewhat less satisfying mouthful of yum, and the tentacle thing with its life.

edit: I bought a new dress-thing today. Here is a picture of it, with mah purple pants. Pay no attention to the terrible hair - it's dirty so it's in a ponytail which isn't very good for photo-taking. Also I made that necklace.http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h287/serpentine16/photos/DSCF6792.jpg

edit mk 2: It was decided a headscarf would be better (given that I can't wear hats), so another picture was taken. If you'd rather not look at me twice, you're best off just looking at this one.
Also in this one you can almost see the ring I made.http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h287/serpentine16/photos/DSCF6795.jpg

It's like you don't even comprehend all my posts mentioning I'm 4'10'' until there are accompanying photos. :smallwink:During my time in the service, I had the opportunity to serve with two women who were under 5' tall (at different times). The later one, we used to tease her because according to state law here, kids have to be in a booster seat until they're 4'9". Now, most of the ads don't mention an age limit for this, so we'd ask her why she doesn't have the mandatory booster seat in the driver's seat. :smallcool:

To make it even more humorous, her ex-husband was kind of on the tall side, which her son inherited, so he didn't need to have one.

I want to know about this host-family thing. Do you know Japanese? I'm contemplating a trip, and such, but I don't speak any Japanese...

Home stay? Its a type of program where you travel to a different country in High school or college, and stay with a family in that country, going to school in that country, with classes in that country's language.
I knew Japanese before I left, and it helped some, but the point of a home stay is that you don't necessarily need any language experience to be able to go. There were several people who went who didn't speak any Japanese before. I went for 6 weeks, but they have year long programs as well, and people who go for a year long program learn A LOT unless they become intensely homesick and come home.
I think I remember you saying somewhere that you are from Australia. There are actually not a small number of Australian exchange students to Japan. My friend who went had a class mate at his school who was Australian.

I wish commercials here were like that. .-.

They're ****ing INSANE in Japan. I am using all caps, which I normally don't do, to show just how crazy they are. Like, legitimately, Japan has the weirdest commercials I have ever seen. They also have some really cool commercials, but those tend to be sort of hard to find. Like, there was a commercial for insurance that had a montage of influential women in Japan, and then everyday women as well, and it was really cool to see the progression of women in Japan, but then the next commercial is a group of dancing nutcrackers who appear suddenly in a girl's bedroom in the morning, wake her up, and then give her some lemon flavored drink, and they sing and dance and she does it with them. WTF?

... how does this work?

I could live on a farm for a few months. I plan on doing so, actually, move in to the family farm for a little while, but I've lived all of 3 years outside of the city.
Funny story, when I was still living in the suburbs, when all the neighbours learned we were moving back to the city, they were all saying "Oh my god, how will you sleep with all the transit! And people are so unfriendly! And there's" they whisper "homeless people!"
So, when we move in, I'm about 6 or 7, I turn to mum, and ask her "Mom? Why is everyone on their porches smiling and saying hello?"

Yeah, the cold distant suburbs are so much more friendly than the big metropolitan accepting city. :smallamused:
As for the noise, do you know how loud damn birds are?
And homeless people, never bothers me.

I lived on a farm for a while, far away from civilization. I hope to never do something like that again. I very much like having stores and restaurants and a library within walking distance, not to mention an Internet connection that isn't a boondocks Internet connection.

Oh man... I cannot decide which I like more, the really cool undergrowth there or the squiggly little tree trunks.

Also, the name of that town with the good food wouldn't happen to be Iron Town would it? >> The lake shots remind of that for some reason.

... how does this work?

There's a bunch of farms in the middle of the (small) city that I live in. Not very big farms, mind you, but still. We actually rent out our farmland to a neighbor farmer, and he grows soybeans. Along the street I live on, two of the farms have horses, and lots of people grow corn. There is also one Christmas tree farm.

There are very few trees in Japan until you get to the sort of out of the way areas. In the cities, they have almost none, which is super weird when compared to the town where I live in in America, where there is at least one tree for every house, usually more. The trees they have are also really weird, as you mentioned with the squiggly trunks, but then also they tend to have very few leaves, and in the forests that are by the highway (less so in the mountains) they get really tall.

Iron Town as in the place in Princess Mononoke? I don't get any other references to that name. Well, it was kind of too small to call a town, and it didn't look like it even had any commercial residences, else I would call it a thorp, because I love that word, but it was really just like a collection of shops.

Correct, I was referring to Mononoke. I was imagining a walled town in place of the temple and giant wolves running about and such. Maybe a few kodama. >>

The other night, a girl from my last work invited me out for drinks and stuff. I'd only met most of the people there maybe once or twice, but we all got along well (although one girl was just recently single, I think, and kinda... affectionate with everyone's boyfriends).
So... Mmmm, boozamahol:http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/228850_10150723032655324_771245323_19576009_167244 0_n.jpg

This seems to depend on where you are, though. In the area that I live, there are trees everywhere. You can't look up without seeing trees, and I live in a city with 200,000 people in it. Even in some of the bigger cities, like Kyoto for example, there are lots of trees (although, like in all big cities, they tend to be centralized in certain areas). Head out to the suburbs directly neighboring those big cities and you'll see even more trees, pretty much the same as in America.

Mountains tend to be similar from what I've noticed, although most of the ones here are absolutely swarming with trees both big and small. The common feature seems to be the undergrowth that Trog noted, which is abundant everywhere you go. I'm having trouble finding some pictures to show what I mean without digging into old folders on my computer, but there's two separate mountains in this post to show what I mean. It's not the best example considering that the first one was noteworthy because of its lack of trees and the second was a mining town for about 400 years and, thus, kind of sparse as well, but you can see all the mountains in the background completely coated in trees and the underbrush in both places.

http://ifeellikeagiant.blogspot.com/2011/07/darth-humid-and-tomas-rainbows.html

If anything, I feel like there's more trees here than the area I grew up in. And that's saying something considering I spent my childhood in a place called Grass Valley and my young adult life about a half an hour from Sacramento (also referred to by some as "The City of Trees". Seriously, there's so many trees there that people are known to develop allergies after moving there).

Yeah, it definitely depends on where you are. I was using the things I had noticed in Tokyo and Gunma, which are very different from Kyouto, or at least one would assume. For Gunma, anyway, it is really hot, and although it does rain, it isn't all that often, and it snows (although mostly on the mountains) so the trees don't exactly have it easy, but there were literally no trees in Maebashi, which is the capitol of Gunma. Also, super hot all the time.

You and Naoko are freaking adorable, man. I have been reading your blog for the past 10 minutes.

Yeah, the heat is ridiculous. I come home for lunch breaks, and there's been times when my apartment was 37 degrees celcius. With humidity. That's pretty much "kill me now" status in my book. Of course, the Winter is so cold that we have freaking snow storms, so we have quite the temperature variance here too.

Haha, thanks. It's all her, though. I just kind of bask in the afterglow and give off the illusion of also being adorable.
