With the Skarn Monk ACF it lets you bind souldmelds to your hand slot, but I can't tell what list they are from. Could I bind Sphinx claws to that slot for pounce by any chance?

You could but you would need to be able to shape that soulmeld to begin with. Notice that you could do the same exact thing with any class just by taking shape soulmeld (sphinx claws) and bind chakra (hands).

The racial substiution levels give you a limited version of the Shape Soulmeld feat along with the ability to bind a soulmeld to your Arm chakra. The versions Skarn Monks get for this is 1 soulmeld off of the Soulborn list. They can then bind that soulmeld to their Arm chakra.

To figure out what this means, you should read the section on Soulmelds in the book and then look at the Soulborn list for which soulmelds they can bind to their arms.

Your best choices for this seem to be the Bluesteel Bracers and the Mauling Guantlets. Bluesteel will give you and all allies within 30 ft a +2 to initiative. The Mauling Guantlets will give you +2 to strength checks (grapple, trip attempts, etc.) along with doubling your critical threat range.


You might also decide that you don't like any of the arm chakra binds because they aren't that great and they take up your arm slot that most monk characters use for getting an AC armor bonus. In that case you could technically pick a different soulmeld from the soulborn list and just not bind it to your arms. (Or you could take the Shape Soulmeld feat and bind a soulmeld from another class to your arms.)

Also, you wouldn't get the oppurtunity to bind anything to your hands by taking the racial substiution level. It gives you the ability to bind soulmelds to your arm chakra, not your hand chakra.
