what to do w/ the resistant ex slaves
Getting these people out of the forest and on their way should be a priority - they could be a liability otherwise

what to do w/ the "hardened" ex slaves
Training these people as soldier seems sensible

what to do w/ the weak ex slaves
Korin might try teaching a few of these people religious rites. Strong faith could strengthen morale and community.

What to do w/ the guards
Korin is opposed to killing the guards. He'd probably be willing to take them as allies, but might require a ritual of atonement first, preferably something like a trial by fire, since it would show the former slaves their captors suffering for their actions, hopefully dampening any thoughts of revenge.

what to do w/ the camp
I agree with Xilef's ambush plan. I'd also like to start burning symbols into the wreckage of our targets, as a way to show that our attacks come from a unified force and hopefully spread word about our fight.

Long term goals
I think we should set up a few more outposts in the forest. maybe not right away, but when there are enemy soldiers hunting for us, having more than one site to fall back to could be a big help. Maybe a few central camps with a scattering of small hidden sites throughout the forest for if we need shelter at short notice. Perhaps Xilef's magic could make hidden rooms in trees or underground.

Nova is aggainst killing them or imprisonating any of them (since it's code), so he'll suggest to take them over the forest and tell them they're free and to not go on telling people about us if they get captured once more or propose them to live in peace in the ruined keep we got (this way they can keep it when wemove away from the forest etc);

what to do w/ the "hardened" ex slaves:
Train them as soldiers, but also Nova would like to see if any of them is capable of becoming a paladin and would gladly train him or her.

what to do w/ the weak ex slaves:
Let's put them in the keep safelyand use them to create farms, rebuild what is possible from the ruins, create traps, work as blacksmiths and crafters and bowyers and lumberjacks, cleaning, etc.

what to do w/ the guards:
Nova wants to interrogate them and them kill them as a punishment from the slavery they comitted (Nova is aggainst imprisoning the guards since it's break it's code, but is ok to kill them cause he's extremamely good and wants to purgeevil from the world).

what to do w/ the camp:
Loot, keep the tents, look for more treasures. Nova think the supply train probably got sacked by bandits or something and that waiting more than one week is waste of time.

long term goals:
Defeat the empire (obviously).
Nova takes a look at the map and suggest that it would be of great great help if we could in the near future free a city or capture the iron mine (so we can make better weapons and armors to everybody.
He's also interested in the possibilityof trainning clerics, but since we're the only ones who had the Dream Ithink it may prove fruitless, but can help creating some cultural group identity and raise morale and hope.
Also, Nova wants to research the legends of this forest and ask the guards and slaves if they know anything about the spirit of the forest etc (got curious).

Seanon wants to take them out of the forest as soon as possible, even if there are risks.

train them as crafter/farmers/etc. hopefully teach a bunch of them to read and write.

Seanon would imprision them for indefinite time, but maybe the "fire trial" thing might be a good idea. leave them to the whip for a week or so.

what to do w/ the camp:
Take out eveyrhting. he can summon mount to make the wagons work

long term goals:
for now: craft. masterwork wepons wepons are needed to make magical wepons, at least to your top followers. you also have mitrill and adamantine. he suposes that in a month you can make enought masterwork wepons.

for soon: having a little touch with a town or city, having a personal feeling of things. there is were most people will be... raiding more slaves camps will not be all that helpfull as the empire will just send more slaves (out of towns and cities)


Obs - Nova can't train clerics or paladins. magic/supernatural is rare in this world and PCs can't infuse it on others. at first, you can train them to be warriors (NPC class). if the new warriors get to lv 4 they might get a PC class, just like your current followers.

Ooohhh look at all that! I like gaming with you chaps. Seems like the consensus is:

1. Get rid of the resistant ex slaves ASAP. I was thinking of waiting until we learn about the supply train. Maybe we have someone (or something!) scout down the trail and see if there was a recent ambush or signs of a conflict?

2. Stay in the forest and establish outselves. With the loss of a lumber camp the Empire might come rolling in though. We'll need to figure out more about the forest spirit. If we can get "mystical" forces on our side that'll give us a huge advangate.

3. Guards get some "questioning" and to pass atonement or pass outa life.

It's nice not to have a lawful good paladin saying "No, you can't kill blah blah blah"

Also - I feel like what this is leading to; Let's build us a cult!

Another idea for the guards: hold them hostage and ransom them to the Empire if they do come near. POW treatment and all that.

With the state of this empire, ransom is not likely, and keeping prisoners isn't feasible for the long-term.

Also: an Empire that slaves its citizens wouldn't ransom fail guards.
Also, the last thing we need is the Empire knowing anything about us.

allright you can carry on any deadly interrogation you want IC, or prepare a public execution, trow them naked to the mob, etc.

you can make special intimidate checks: the guards are totally defeated already.... but sucessfull intimidate checks mean that they willl simply know more specific stuff to tell you (like how many were recently enslaved, how is the grip over the populace, were are the guards training camps, empire treasuries, important NPCs etc)

Korin seems to be the optimist of the group, at least where the captured slavers are concerned. He really wants to reform them and prove that they're nobler than those they fight.

yes I did

unfortunately my sheets and maps and books are not at hand at the moment, so I won't be able to hand you the correct XP right now.

there are 80 slaves willing to join you
40 of them are battle-able, while other 40 will have to work on suport roles
20 slaves refuse to join you and want to be set free as soon as possible

EDIT: you all may roll another diplomacy check on the ex-slaves, DC30 (no re-roll, no take 10, no take 20). if you beat it, one of the ex-slaves might have helpfull information regarding the spirit of the tick woods!

I was thinking of korin leading them in meditation and fasting in a pitch black cave, subjecting himself to the same trials he puts them through to show that they are not simply acts of cruelty. For those who chose to fight, he plans to kill them, since they've decided to die fighting rather than try for redemption.

ok, you're taking the 3 turncoat guards with you. You can still torture, interrogate, or execute them.

but I need a final decision on what will you do right now about the resistent slaves. Imprisionment will break Nova's code (and remove his paladin powers) so will you take them to the edge of the forest or just leave them there?

I belive that after you handle those resistent slaves you will head to the tower and craft/prepare

It's a few days (I think) travel to the edge of the forest. I was mostly keeping them prisoners to seperate them away from any planning. Let them tell stories of our powers not our plans.

Does anyone have ranks in Trap making? That could prove valuable.

A few random thoughts:
We need to talk to this forest spirit. Perhaps offer regrowing the timber cut area (with Xilef's magic?) in trade for clearing some timber to farm. This could also mess with the Empire? (WTF where is the lumber camp)

What happened to the supply wagon? We need to scout out more of the woods, more bandits could be about.

Our followers are awesome. I looked at the damage they were throwing around last fight and it was impressive. All of them were holding their own.

Oh, and traps. Does Elkal have trap making?

Xilef could not make such thing in the same day, since she prepared combat spells and stuff. to do this, she will have to move back to the camp and cast the spell

yes, an underground fountain goes directly into the tower. no need to worry about it.

while the "day off" things sounds nice IC, it may touble us for food production and crafting progress. we consider it is done IC but we will consider that you work every day (better progress when you're rested; or side-activities made between the 8 hours of work and 8 hours of sleep)

Waiting on Xilef's ressurection. consider that eveyrone gathered in a large room inside the tower to see her spell working.

Korin's trials... could have some spice.
* hallucionogenic stuff is poisonous
* physical test includes getting beaten by ex-slaves
* trial by fire will hurt a lot

I wanted to amke a single sheet for the newcoming warriors... sword-and-shield seems like a way to go. get some footman in there!

I'm considering you will shortly get back to the lumber camp and raise the vegetation to make it grow

once we sort those things out, we will fast-forward one month

having the incense be slightly poisonous and the trial by fire being dangerous, but the group bludgeoning doesn't sound like a good idea. Korin is trying to push the idea of forgiveness and atonement, and that seems a little to malicious for his taste. That, and it would be too easy for the beaters to get carried away.

to have 40 light footman (filling all equipment for the new slaves) you need more 15 swords and 40 large shield. you already have 40 light leather armors.

since you took 20 chain shirts form the camp, all your veteran follwoers got one. does any PC need a chain shirt?

Seanon will work on making that MW battleaxe into a +2 battleaxe. (for Uidon I think)
He could turn that MW breat plate into a +3 breatplate, giving it DR 4/-
the MW shield could turn into +2 shield
We also need MW longsowrd for Nova and a MW composite longbow for Elkal.

once PCs have magical wepons, it would't hurt the veretan followers to have some (returning +1 spears, Keen +1 longbows, Whilwind +1 longspear)

Because of the White Raven tactics stuff I have to stick to a long sword so Uidon will have to say no to the Battle Axe (Unless Beschoren you want to wave those weapon requirements?). The +2 Shield would be useful for Uidon. He always has a shield out. Not sure about the breastplate.

Uidon also can use Unseen Crafter and has feats and abilities to assist in crafting. Retain Essense allows him to drain XP (as craft reserve) from magic items.

Hardened Ex Slaves we can train as Foot Soldiers. Lump them in with Lucky, We can get them Sword and Board start and add a reach weapon after? For the Weak Ex Slaves we can train them with crossbows / bows / Slings?. I am not sure if commoners even get a weapon proficiency though...

We are limited to Character Level from an Erata by Beschoren earlier (a smart errata I think, that spell alone could destroy the world's economy; Image if someone Extended (or Permanent!) those guys.)

So max of 8 currently running for both of us. Stats for them:
I have +9 Ranks in Weapon Smithing, +6 in Armor, +5 in Blacksmithing for them.

Ok, let's have the ex-slaves that are crafters Aid Another Uidon's Unseen Crafters, and with +11 to their weaponsmithing they can craft 2 longswords each/ week (16 total). So in 2 weeks we have 32 longswords; week 3, 4 of Uidon's Crafters make longswords (bringing the total up to 40) and the rest start on armor. Still Aided by the ex-slaves they have +8 to armorsmithing and produce 9 studded leather armors each/ week (36 after week 3). Then, in week 4, they can all make shields. Each produces 30 heavy wooden shields or 10 heavy steel shields/ week.

Thoughts? Maybe we should give them better armor? Also, if we only need 40 shields for now, we have 4-6 of Uidon's crafters in week 4 that could make something else. Reach weapons?

Also, Elkal himself will not be crafting. He will be doing other things, like searching the tower top-to-bottom for secret caches of magical items/ scrolls, exploring the world/ forest for animals to train, and trying to trade for animals as described in a previous long OOC post.

longsowd DC: 15
quick craft: +10 DC
weponsmithing: +15

in 1 week, 8 unseen crafters produce 33 longsowrds with no aid. that's enought

followers aid another: +2

if 2 unseen crafters work in the same wepon at diffrerent work shifts, they will end it more quickly. this way they can produce 4 MW wepons in the last 3 weeks - two masterwork longswords (for uidon and nova), a masterwork composite longbow for elkal and a masterwork longspear for lucky



Uidon's crafters

large shield DC: 12
armorsmithing: +8

in 2 weeks, 8 unseen crafters produce 48 large shields with no aid. that's enought

followers aid another: +2 (includes veteran followers)

so by the end of your crafting spree, you get enought and spare longswords and shields for the new recrutis. You also get MW wepons for all wepon-using PCs, your veteran lancer and your veteran archers. Seanon will make them all +1 magical by 7k in 14 days of work. deal?

1) Elkal already has a masterwork comp. longbow, but I'm happy to get it enchanted. So lets give the one his crafters are making to one of our veteran archers.

2) Elkal will not craft anything. Assuming a 28 day month (4 weeks) he will spend 4 days worshipping, 4 days meeting with/ spending time with followers for morale/ information purposes, 4 days "resting", 1 day searching the tower for hidden caches of items/ secret rooms, and the rest of his time a) searching for animals to train/ capturing them and b) traveling to Kavatch and flying above the town invisibly to gather information about the town--basically just see if it still exists/ is in shape to trade but not revealing himself yet. He will also ask the followers about Kavatch.

3) Unrelated, lets give the barbarian half-orc a chain shirt and masterwork weapon if we have ones to spare.

4) Elkal does still plan to outfit the militia with crossbows to have them serve as a crossbowman corps in major battles.

esorscher 3.5 breaks time down a little differently. You can spend 8 hours resting, 8 hours training and 8 hours working in a day. So you could work on a magic item / tracking etc, work on a Role Play element [training, scouting, something] and still be rested.

Beschoren - I think the homoculus only continues work if Uidon is away. I'll read up on it later.

Uidon can make most magic items at this point, so if you want something throw me a request. I'm still thinking things up.

Proposal:
A level 1 or 2 wand for buffing / secondary use
Scrolls:
- Dispel Magic, Downdraft, Updraft, Fly, See Invis,
Potions:
- Want a potion made?

Make your Armor / Weapons magic / Masterwork?
- Uidon will make a Masterwork shield for himself and enchant it to +1

Something for spying / divination? Nondetection? That might be neat. I'm not sure Uidon knows enough about magic.

What about something magic to help w/ food or water?

I am still brainstorming.

In that case, Elkal will craft... something. A masterwork weapon for our barbarian, a personal gift. Presented to him as part of a ceremony celebrating the spirits and recognizing their power over his reincarnation. (No offense Xilef) Yes, a great axe. (Craft +13, takes about 2 weeks). He'll work on it every day and also do all those other things I mentioned previously.

As for ideas for Uidon, maybe a decanter of endless water? That way we have a water source for farming. Maybe he could enchant this weapon for the half-orc?

BeschorenI like how this is working out, even if it is slowing down for a moment. Xilef being the Mother (Discipline, Provider), Korin being a spiritual leader, Nova leading the troops, Elkal being our finder... Good stuff. It's a good moment for roleplaying.

Is everyone ok with the narative stuff around Uidon? I'm just making up stuff wholesale, but don't want to steal anyone's thunder.

Honestly, I think all PCs got a thunder, flashing one way or another. indeed, good oportunity. a month is going by as you post. is there any issue?

how will korin handle the physical trial? i was thinking consecutives str-dex-con checks over fatigue and exaution

the last trial by fire would be more about fortitude and reflexes. only after that they would be judge by korin and the ex-slaves.

hum, like... climbing the remains of the tower? i can conly think of several climb and ballance checks

sorry if things are a bit slow, we're at an important and long RP part for all PCs. soon we will get more monsters!

Elakal does not find anything specially remarkable in the tower. he find a few secret mini storage spaces (like a loose brick or a fake front) but notthign that would really impact your lives.

He finds that the water source is natural and starts from underground. it seems to be a safe and reliable resource.

He also makes a lot of friends. People come to him (and to the other PCs) to know more about the spirits and how they should live their lives.

Nova sees that there still some ex-slaves holding a grudge on the guards, despite all the talking. only the outcome of the tests and time living side by side could put an end to this. one way or another... At any rate, Nova does not think the guards will be assassinated at the first chance

Many stop to ehar his songs and his stories. He gathers little extra knowledge on the Spirit of the Thick Woods. there does not seem to be a way of contacting him directly to do your bidding

from what he heards from the ex-slaves, life in the towns are not much better than in the slave pits. Farmers are robed by criminals, guards or their neighbors. Drugs and desiase rampage on every street, condamming all public places to a constant filfth. Any kind of resistence by the population is faced with extreme brutality by the guards or the bandits. They already knew slaves had revolted some 2 or 3 weeks ago using mysterious powers, but many doubted it. there are a few urban legends too, but it is difficult to tell if any of them has any kind of sense or is a wild halucination form this poor people

Hey guys, just pointing out that if you have Freedom of Movement on you (which Seanon cast on everyone but Elkal) you can go through the black tentacles without getting grappled--"The subject automatically succeeds on any grapple check made to resist a grapple attempt"

A reminder about the Blur effect on everyone's armor. It's a swift action to active and then it last for 5 rounds, usable 3 times a day (for 15 total rounds).

Nova cannot reach the winged armed demon he wants to in thsi turn. I'll advance him 5 foot on his direction and have him full-round the little demons arround him instead

also, the little demons have 2 AoOs on xilef as she charges the winged armed demons. they were flying right over her head.

I just realized Korin rolled the wrong saves...


they were suposed to be 2 wills and 1 fort. It's ok, you said you were busy. I'll keep the rolls but change the modifier.

correct will save modifier for that ocasion is +7 (+6 base, +3 mass conviction, -2 snakelike shadow).

he fails the 1║ will save and takes -4 on attack, damage, saves and skill-ability checks
Then he fails the 2║ will (his bonus is reducted to +3) save and must make a fort save
He makes the fort save and halves the ability damage, even with the -6 penality

so all his attacks on the dance of death have a -4 penality (and a +1 bonus from haste he forgot!). So all attacks he roled on IC post #1007 have -3 on attack and -4 on damage



Korin is forced a will save DC 18 as he hits the wingless large demon or he gets fatigueted. I'll roll it here and now to avoid waitingThankfully he flikered away from the snakelike shadow and his penality on will save is only -4.

EDIT:FINAL RESULT: Korin is fatigated, recicing a -2 penality on strenght and dexiterity! all dance of death attacks after V3 recive further -1 on attack and -2 on damage. So in total, his dance of death is performed at -4 attack and -6 damage. sorry if there was any confusion!

outcome of this turn:

Nova targed the winged armed demon that was out of reach. hits small guys instead.
Korin got massive penalities (-4 on attacks, wepon damage, saves, abilities and skill checks, -2 str, -6 dex and -4 wis, can't run or charge, but could made dance of death)
Xilef misses all attacks, but destroyed many images
Uidon now must make a lot of saves
I kinda of moved Elkal 60 feet toward the battle... it greatly made mapmaking easier (he was the only guy to the west). if this was incredibly horrible for him just let me know and I won't make such moves again. also his spell still holds 2 monsters.
Seanon was worthless. maybe xilef would like blood wind this turn?

Big winged armed demon generated another image, attacked Korin, and teleported away
Big wingless armed demon focused on giving penalities to Uidon. He escaped the tentacles

any questions/issues? Big battle with lots of things going on.

I think you're right but note that the text was slightly changed in the Spc (p33). Notably it say that you use your normal melee attack bonus (so Str instead of dex) but firing into melee and cover should apply.
As for duration that was changed too, it's only one round but affect all natural weapon instead of just one for x round/level.

Anyway, rolling my fort save:

I'm all for it, their AC is really monstrous and we need all the help we can get, their main offense being fort save vs negative level, more AC won't really help anyway.

Still waiting for Korin position before acting.

trip attacks are ok. you failed both touch attacks this turn, however. Don't forget that the class defense bonus is effective versus touch attacks.

Elkal's ray should hit pretty easely, however

you kind of might actually lose this battle. But since this is not the "real game" I will let that happen if that happens (big bosses won't play dumb so you can win). but if you DO win, even with overpowering foes playing at full power, you get special stuff besides XP. Everyone gets full shares of XP despite casualties. I think that's ok, right? a challanging challange for a change

Song of recklessness: it allow you to lower your AC to add as much penalty you take in b˘nus to attack rolls. Up to your base attack b˘nus.

This way Nova could do a power attack and still hit, but lowered his AC to hit the boss.

It's effective against one effect (no duration) but I only failled one save, the one with a DC 22, I passed all the others.

really really. I've checked the Flicker "spell" on Tome of Magic book, and it explicit says so.

no, you may not. you can reach things up to 20 feet high (10 feet from your size plus 10 feet from your reach). you do can jump/teleport up to attack them, but that makes full attack impossible.

Nova can use Lay on Hands to heal people around (he didn't took much ddamage).
Also, he can heal ability damage thanks to the Caduceus Bracers, if anyone need it.

He can heal 28 hp (healing ability damage takes 5 hp worth of my healing pool).
Can remove fatigue, daze and sickened conditions too.

Let's try and ask questions that give us the most information. Instead of, "are we being tested" how about "who is testing us?" if no one is testing us, no one is the answer. otherwise we find out who is testing us. "what are all possible meanings of our presence here?" instead of "what is the meaning of the dream" as one) the giant might not understand or agree that we are dreaming when we are here and two) there might be multiple meanings--what it means to us, to him, etc.

General and specific at the same time rather than open-ended.

- it also says the dreams are in part of your making - a way of having your "extra magic" dissipate

Yes you can change the classes. I just don't want him to sudenly start raging with a spiked chain.

Keep in mind that some of the stuff he does (healing, haste, mass conviction, prayer) might be worthy to keep in your list, since no one else does it.

Blood wind is a swift, close range spell. allows you to use natural wepons as ranged, trown wepons, with all bonus and penalities associated to it. Seanon uses it on xilef sometimes, so she can full-round people at afar.

growht of might gives a +2 bonus to strenght, for several minutes. the recipient may increase that bonus to +8, for 1 round, but this ends the spell

well, that's an odd request

usually it takes the snake whole turn to swallow something, as part of it's attack.

if you want to go down i guess you can one of your attacks to auto-lose the grapple check to bring you to it's stomach. be mindfull you should take crushing and acid damage in the process, and in the next turn the snake will not havy any trouble pinning you down while attacking the others.

once inside the snake, you could slash your way out, dealing X damage VS a certain AC, as normal.

so, yes - you can trow yourself in her stomach. it will use one of your attacks and you will take X damage in the process. in the next turn, the snake may attempt to pin you.

no, you're still grapling. you follow normal rules for grapling (I belive you will desire to make normal attacks at -4 penality, and not make grapple checks to deal unarmed damage).

and yes, the mosnters innards are esier to hit and damage than from the outside.

I'm okay with delaying, that armor looks pretty useful, and we could give all of our followers (conceivably) heavy armor that acts as medium. And the +5 to grapple checks would have been handy.

Well no obviously, but I've taken a few minute to reread the threads, I've found 3500xp from the dream fight( that I missed somehow :smallconfused:), but I can't find any xp from the camp fight.
I don't think it's enough to level up but one more fight should do it, I don't know.

that camp fight would have been at least 2000 xp. mostly because of the plot advancing, since you had to share XP with your followers. I can't recall the numbers and CRs of the creatures.

any decisions on the wurmskin?

If we got 2000 XP from the camp fight (that we didn't previously receive) + 1500 XP from the wurm then that is enough for us to level up. Elkal had 33100 on his sheet, not sure about Seanon though. On that note, does Elkal stay at party level even though he wasn't at the wurm fight?

I am for moving away from the Wurmskin, maybe taking a sampling for ourselves to either keep or sell in the city. This could be a good ploy for us to have, simple hunters coming in with a catch.

My reasoning; going back and forth to our camp would eat a lot of days and put more followers at risk for what could be a small return. All of the armor would need to be processed and without us at the camp it won't really matter. Maybe take enough for 1 or 2 suits?

Unless someone has a good argument the other direction.

Elkal levels up with the party. he will have his own challanges by himself. Seanon has the same XP as everyone

you can all level up then!

and yes, you would be able to make jsut a few armor - surely less then a dozen light armor suits

I was just making the Nova's level up when I figured out I had the ability to cast paladin's spells and wasn't using it :smallsigh:

Can i get the spelless paladin varaint and exchange the level 1 spell slot for extra bonus feat? If yes, I'll get Awesome Smite (bonus) and Divine Power (level 9).

Woo leveling! I hadn't even been tracking XP just enjoying the game.

If we now have access to the all mighty teleport (It's hard to imagine we have that now!! Slaves a month ago!) then I don't see why we can't get this to our army and keep them growing in awesomeness.

I forgot what I was even going to do with Uidon.
