Wellcome you all again!

after "aaaaaahhhh!!! zombies!!!!!" and while we play "aaaaahhh!!! this is madness!!!" I'm proud to invite you to join "aaaaahhh!!! the slaves got magic!!!"

player selection is extrictly handpicked. I have great expectations - tatical, roleplayish-wise, wit, and your good manners.

anyway, this game has a very special setting

fluff

The adventure happens on a very poor and broken country, ruled by terrible tyrants. opression is so severe the rules enslave their own subjects seeking only personal gain, all past rebellions were utterly crushed, the population is sick, hungry, poor and absolutely hopeless. The country is razed and walks the path of doom with a bloodied sword on it's neck.

all this poverty means that materials such as avarege armor, a good wepon, or even decent construction material is hard to come by. housings, carts, ships, tools, roads, temples, food - all things are poorly made with cheap materials.

admist such poverty, knowledge is underdeveloped. farming, smithing, building... all poor, all messed up. specialists are hard to come by, and mostly all population have no idea on how the world works. Accurate knowledge of magic and sobrenatural are almost inexistent, while wild stories and superstition are very common.

magic is extremely rare. there are very few casters arround, and usually they end up with great power over the others. The population greatly fears magic and casters, as they are unaware of its actual limits. very few individuals in the country actually understand magic.

crunch

low magic. there are no magic itens for sale. you may still be full casters and take crafting feats that work as normal. you may have time to craft, but it won't be infinite. you may need some kind of 500-gp-worth workshop to craft itens, but we will work that out.

low wealth. you start with no initial terasure. overall treasure will be greatly reduced (since you won't find magic itens all arround).

alternative rules that reduce the need for magic and armor, and a few more spice.
armor (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/armorAsDamageReduction.htm), defense bonus (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/defenseBonus.htm), reserve points (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/reservePoints.htm), massive damage (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/massaveDamageThresholdsAndResults.htm) (HD-based), action points (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/actionPoints.htm)

this will allow you to actually dispense armor, but still benefit form it in case you have one (bonuses dosen't stack), endure longer without need for magical healing and pull a stunt when you really need it

PC creation

base background: you lived a simple life and was taken slave when very young. since then you worked on a quarry in constant misery and pain. One day, MAGIC infuses into you, chaging your life forever. PC features are instantly learned, and you are able to do MAGIC (arcane, divine, psionic, manuevers, truename, supernatural... all end up being seen only as "magic")

level 6 gestalt PCs. no initial wealth. I would better see you all as humans, the dominant/only race arround. 40 point buy, max hp/level. casting classes are not compulsory, but hey, the point is that the PCs have magic while most of the world does not.

no full control of knowledge skills. You learned to do magic all in a sudden, but how and why are beyound you. the infused magic allows you to take a good intuition on stuff (identify a school of magic, recognize the difference between a elemental and a demon, find your way north) but it's not like you can sit down and write all you know to make the first library on the contry.

you will have some time to craft stuff. if you don't take the craft magic intens feat, consider at elast the craft skill. few will be able to forge adamantine for you.

wurm skin

Also, since Youre low on magical itnes, that wurmskin has to have some special propriety to be different from a usual leather armor. Here's my suggestions:

1 - all armor is masterwork
2 - instead of producing 2 light armors, you could chose to produce 1 banded mail (all to medium-sized creatures)

and

+5 bonus on escape artist checks
or +5 bonus on hide checks in woods or areas with undergrowth
or +5 bonus on grapple checks (only to innitiate a grapple or damage/hold/pin your foe, not to prevent it grapples or avoid damage)
or heavy armor is considered as medium armor

armor making

For future reference, here's a little look at what working this skin actually takes (by RaW):

Light Armor (I'm assuming Leather in function):
Make one Craft (Armorsmithing) check per week or per day
Multiply result by 12
If result equals 100 (or 1,000, if per day), the armor is completed
If result equals more than 100 (or 1,000 if per day), the armor is completed in less than a week
If result equals less than 100 (or 1,000 if per day), the armor is completed in more than a week, and require another check
If the result ever equals 8-11, you make no progress and do not multiply the roll
If the result ever equals less than 9, you ruin half of the materials used

Heavy Armor (I'm assuming Banded Mail in function):
Make one Craft (Armorsmithing) check per week or per day
Multiply result by 16
If result equals 2,500 (or 25,000, if per day), the armor is successfully completed
If result equals more than 2,500 (or 25,000 if per day), the armor is completed in less than a week
If result equals less than 2,500 (or 25,000 if per day), the armor is completed in more than a week, and require another check
If the result ever equals 12-15, you make no progress and do not multiply the roll
If the result ever equals less than 12, you ruin half of the materials used

This is assuming that they're not masterwork, of course, which requires similar checks all on its own.[/QUOTE]

warrior training

To turn his Communer level into a Warrior level, the Communer must train for 8 hours/day for 10 days, guided by a PC. At the end of this 10 day time (it might be interrupted) he must succed on a level check DC 15. If he fails, he does not change class. The training PC might grant several bonus on this check.

By the end of this 10 day period, the PC might make a DC 10 level check. If he succeds on the check, he gives a +2 bonus to the Communer class-turn check. Each 5 points he exceeds the check, he gives another +2 bonus. This represents the PC's overall quality at traning others.

By the end of this 10 day period, the PC might make a DC 10 charisma check. If he succeds on the check, he gives a +1 bonus to the Communer class-turn check. Each 5 points he exceeds the check, he gives another +1 bonus. This represents the PC's incentive and leadership at traning.

By the end of this 10 day period, the PC might make a DC 10 wisdom check. If he succeds on the check, he gives a +1 bonus to the Communer class-turn check. Each 5 points he exceeds the check, he gives another +1 bonus. This represents the PC's awareness at sharpening up weak spots of the Communers at the traning.

By the end of this 10 day period, the PC might make a DC 10 inteligence check. If he succeds on the check, he gives a +1 bonus to the Communer class-turn check. Each 5 points he exceeds the check, he gives another +1 bonus. This represents the PC's organization at giving a logical sequence to the training and a buildup of knowledge.

Each PC may train up to 20 people per 10-day. several PCs might train the save group (bonus stacks). The PC might make all the bonus checks to enhance the COmmuner's training, not just one or two.

Exciting!

My initial thought when you pitched the new game was Warblade // Factotum (going for low-ish magic, and Factotum I think fits well role-play-wise). Not so sure now. Think I'd still like to go Warblade, but perhaps with Psion, or even Duskblade again? Would I be able to channel spells and use a maneuver in the same attack?

Perhaps straight Wizard... haven't ever actually played a Wizard.

Any particular level of optimization we should aim for?

edit: What do you think of meldshaper classes?

Hello Beschoren, Vollmond.

Slavery is a thing of the past.

I would love to play a
Duskblade// Swordsage, Rogue or Spellthief. - Secret magic practicing urban slave
Scout // Warlock - a woods slave nearly recently killed by possession
Ranger // Ninja - Orpaned Bastard of a Noble Bastard, a pawn of a secret order
Monk/ // Paladin - His God speaks of freedom and revolt
Samurai // Truenamer - George of Accounting

In that order. :)

I have played with most of those varieties of rules. I also love some of the variant death rules, wound points... One of those.

I'd like to play a duskblade/binder combo. A vodoo knight type character.

Love the title, by the way

I would better see you all as humans, the dominant/only race arround

Can that part be negociate ?
I was thinking shifter for my race for a druid/barbarian. (I would take the shifter druid sub level so no animal companion and no wild-shape)
I'm willing my character to have a human appareance and the shifter power come at the same times as the magic knowledge.
Pretty please ?

Ok, after research, I'm locked down to either Warblade // (Incarnate or Totemist) or Warblade // Psion.

Hi Duncfoo

Beschoren: what sort of enemies should we plan for? Any particular set of monsters that are common?

You say basic equipment is hard to come by - if we have some equipment, how badly will we stand out and draw attention to ourselves? (thinking of soulmelds that aren't easily hidden...)

edit: and it wouldn't be a vollmond char creation thread without extensive editing-in of questions

Is Azurin close enough to human? Born of 2 human parents, so I assume it works.

Flaws/traits?

Any preference on age or any other fluff? Should we already know each other, etc?

edit2: See? told you.

No initial treasure - do we have clothes, at least? Anything beyond that?

I assume we're to be a largely Good party, yes? Or are we just going to beat up on the current rulers and take over? Incarnate crunch is alignment-based, so it matters.

Duncfoo
2011-07-21, 03:23 PM
I would be ok with largely good party. All of my ideas are for Good characters right now.

I really want to play a Melee character, preferably a Duskblade. For all my games I've been in a support characters for the last 2 years and I'm tired of it. Seems most of use want to be Duskblades or Warblades though, except Zagan. Does anyone have other Gestalt characters they want to play?

vollmond
2011-07-21, 03:45 PM
Gestalt helps with that - easy enough to go melee // caster (though I skipped that option with Warblade//Incarnate...). Archivist would be a good match for Duskblade or Warblade.

I've been looking forward to playing a Warblade, but I could possibly be convinced to switch to be more of a support/blaster. Sorcerer//Favored Soul or Wizard/Psion//Archivist, perhaps? Will take some time to start over, but doable. Other suggestions?

Actually, the more I think about it the more I'm interested in going with dual casting classes  will go that way most likely.

2011-07-21, 06:20 PM
Hmm... Is that in the Mini book? Probably one of the few things I haven't read well. I just wanted to press my preference as I normally roll over for group effectiveness pretty easily.

I was thinking Duskblade // Rogue / Ranger for skill monkey needs
Maybe; Duskblade // Wizard (Abjurer) or Archivist / Arbjurant Chamion

Second option will stay the Scout // Warlock - At least it isn't pure support.

Anyways, the Warblade // Incarnate will have a whole load of options depending on the melds you choose.

This just in. Gestalt is fun. go go high power game. I have story ideas for the characters up the wazoo... I'm brainstorming right now.

Err, is what in the Mini book?

Anyways, the Warblade // Incarnate will have a whole load of options depending on the melds you choose.

True, just not many of them are helpful in a support role

Sorry. Archivist. Which book is that in?

vollmond
2011-07-21, 06:49 PM
Oh! Heroes of Horror.

edit: a series of further questions for the DM:

given the poor/low-magic setting, will there be any opportunity for wizards/archivists to learn new spells other than the normal each-level way? This greatly limits Archivist, especially, since that limits him to cleric spells.

cultural questions: how exactly does this society function? IE, is a large majority of the population under slavery, or is it some slaves and the rest just oppressed? if a large majority is enslaved, how do the rulers maintain control? (merely oppressed citizenry would presumably be easier to intimidate as their lives aren't quite as bad as outright slavery)

for example, do we have a whip-carrying overseer for every normal citizen, ordering them to work in the mills or at the fields any given day, or do we have a "judge, jury, and executioner"-style set of police for each village, keeping the people subservient and downtrodden, but mostly allowing them to go about their lives unmolested (IE, marrying, choosing whether to farm or weave or whatever)?

what goals do the rulers have, in either case? just staying in power? staying in power and living rich? something else?

are the rulers made up mostly of the few spellcasters that this setting has? are there any rulers without supernatural power - if so, how did they get into positions of power over others? are there any non-evil spellcasters around?

what languages are common? is there any influx from foreign lands (with attendant languages) or is it just everyone speaking common?

vollmond
2011-07-21, 08:19 PM
Anyone know where I can find a list of classes ordered by key ability? IE, Sorcerer in CHA, Wizard in INT, etc?

edit: Beschoren, are you allowing dual-advancement PrCs (Mystic Theurge, etc)?

I'll try to make this my last question...

Sorry it's taken me so long to post here. I forgot to subscribe and then forgot to come back and post interest.

Also, hi, Duncfoo! I look forward to playing with you.

I'm thinking either Bard//Cloistered Cleric - Main focus will be to buff and heal with some versatility or Bard//Warlock - Main focus will be to buff and debuff with some blasting. I could also do something melee, like a Barbarian/Bear Warrior//Paladin of Freedom or something ranged like a Rogue//Hit-and-Run Fighter, but I don't mind a support role. Whatever helps the party.

vollmond
2011-07-23, 11:15 PM
I have a Sorcerer//Favored Soul in the works right now, for utility/control/healing. If that's too much overlap with your concept, I can return to my original plan of Warblade // Incarnate. If not, I'll keep working on this. Not very good at judging what this party needs, given the options

I'd still be in favor of having a bard in the party even with my S//FS - a good bard player makes for great reading  that and my optimization-fu is quite unimpressive. I'm probably going to end up with someone who can only spam CLW and Summon Swarm :smalltongue:

My Duskblade/Binder combo is coming together nicely.

Backstory-wise, I'm thinking of him as the descendant of a group of nomads who were enslaved in ancient times. He's lived his whole life in slavery, finding peace and solstice in the beliefs of his people that have been passed down in secret for centuries.

When he recieved his power however, he came to a realization that the spirits revered by his people had been twisted with anger over the injustices committed against their faithful. He believes his power to be granted by these spirits in the name of freeing his people, and will fight against oppression with religious zeal.

I am finally settling ideas around a (drum roll)

Warblade // Artificer (I'm making the Mythweaver Sheet. I will edit to Linky soon... And yes it wasn't something I started with as an idea. You know how it goes with 3.5, too many options)

Uidon T'Trow was a skilled slave, an Iron Slave. Working the foundries day in and day out he showed a natural prowress with molten metals and any craft he put his hand to. Yet he was still a slave. He dreamed of filigrees, beautiful hammered metal flowers, the finest inlays of silver. But day in and day out he pounded out pig iron chains to enslave his fellow man. Uidon despised himself.

Days before the uprising he was given a task. A simple blade 3.5' in length with a long hilt. It was like making love to an anvil that day of work. Almost like hammering out his own future.

----

I am going for Quiet Warleader sort of concept. White Raven would be his main manuever school focus with either Stone Dragon or Diamond mind stuff mixed in (I could use some advise on this as it would be my first ToB Character). Artificer is, well, something I've never played but would give us a whole load of fun buff abilities AND allow us to craft within the team. Since we are going to be item light to start this may help us get items that help tie mechanics or character concepts together. I'm not much of an item heavy player, as I'm too lazy to read the whole Item Compendium, so its going to mostly be for everyone else.

Yep.

-----

Also, can you answer, even briefly, any of Vollmond or Lynworms World Building questions? It works that we wouldn't know TOO much being, well, slaves.

I have returned! My character is still in progress, mostly just spell selection left. I see Beschoren is still being eaten by RL, so I won't feel too bad about taking this long.

No name yet, but thinking my character as a sort of mousy little guy. Weak, probably spends his days stuck on (in-world) stereotypical "women's work" since he's too weak to do real field work and the like. Bitter. Probably would have been an unhappy librarian if he were in our world. At least until he got magic.

Sorcerer 6//Favored Soul 6 (or Sorcerer 4 / Mystic Theurge 2 // Favored Soul 4 / Something Else 2 if Beschoren allows that).

of course we can negotiate. human looking but holding shifter powers is OK. i just don't remind from wich sourcebook i can find them... you know, to check the features. being WotC is OK.

vollmonds questions:

Most of the time you will be facing more humans. outsiders and giants may come by. anything other then that will be very sporadic.

You're not really sure how much attention you will call using wepons and armor. in fact, this will be a large issue when IC comes to life, and the plot may circle arround this.

Azurin?

1 flaw, 1 trait is OK.

no special preferences on fluff. you were taken young, before really understanting the world or society. inside the mine you were slaves, you at least knew each other.

intial itens: a few rasgs covering your genitals - on the lucky days!

alligement... is a piece of crap. I think we will discover what will happen as you play.

given the poor/low-magic setting, will there be any opportunity for wizards/archivists to learn new spells other than the normal each-level way? This greatly limits Archivist, especially, since that limits him to cleric spells.

I'm sorry they will be limited. you might find scrolls as loot, but you won't ever, ever buy one as if you were buying rice.

well, this society dosen't really "funcion". it malfunciotns. It is as if the leaders were slowly razing the land. lots of intimidation, opression, and slavery. more like whips for every citizen (chaotic evil) until there are no more citizens left.

you have no idea of the leaders agenda. that will come up IC. beting the leaders have easy acess to magic is a safe bet, however.

let's simplify leanguages. Just common for now.

edit: Beschoren, are you allowing dual-advancement PrCs (Mystic Theurge, etc)?

Sorry, gestalt forbids that. I'm sure they made a few gametesting. no no, no dual class levels on a single gestalt class.

Great thanks.
They're from eberron. Eberron Campaign Settings p18 or Race of Eberron p25 (lot of material for shifter there, I'll need this book) or even MM3 p150.

I'll get start right away and I'll edit this post with question if need (unless someone else post before that).

EDIT:
Can I take Whirling Frenzy (http://www.dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Publication:Unearthed_Arcana/Rage_Variant_-_Whirling_Frenzy) instead of rage on my barbarian side ?

Also for Barbarian, can I take the city brawler ACF ? I gain improved unarmed strike and two weapon fighting (but only with unarmed strike) and I lose martial weapon proficiency, meidum armor proficiency and shield proficiency. It's from Dragon 349 p92. I think it's very fitting for a savage warrior like I see my character to not use weapon, plus I know that you've used dragon before so.

For the Druid side, i'll take all three shifter druid substitution level (RoE p26), it replace my animal companion by a beast spirit that give me various bonus, resist nature lure with a bonus to init and ref save but with a penalty to will save. And finally replace wild shape with more use of shifting and later more damage with natural weapon.

For flaw I was thinking about beastly, it's also from dragon 324 p93. Copied in spoiler.
Flaw: Beastly
Prerequisite: Wild empathy
Effect: You are vulnerable to the following list of spell, as well as those which affect your own creature type: animal trance, calm animal, charm animal, dominate animal, hide from animal, hold animal.
Additionaly, you suffer a -2 penalty on all Charisma check-based skill check except Disguise, Handle Animal and Use magic device.
Anyone observing your mannerisme who possesses the wild empathy class ability can recognize this flaw immediatly.

Do we use the errata about weretouched master ? (It only affect the capstone so we don't need to really worry about it before level 10)

Would the spell blodd frenzy apply if I have whirling frenzy instead of rage ?

In what type of environment are we playing ? (cold tundra, hot desert, near water, that sort of thing)

How are women treated ? Same statue as other male slave, or are they relegate to women job (prostitution).

Edit2:
One more question but that should be the last. Could I use action point to gain an extra use of shifting ? Like with bonus use of class ability. (don't think I'll need it but I prefer to know in advance.

(don't think I'll need it but I prefer to know in advance.

whirling frenzy is OK. i use it often on my barbs.

city brawler ACF is alowed as well. it could interfere with the defense bonus for AC we are using, but then, the druid levels of the gestalt make it go straight.

those shifter druid class features are ok too

That flaw is OK too. now I'll to create a druid to antagonize, you just to explore those effects, bwahahahhaa

yes, blood frenzy works on whirling frenzy.

enviroment... i guess the tundra kind fits in better (because it's a crap to live in those conditions). no huge piles of snow and ice all over, however - that kind of thing annoys me.

women are not treated, are mistreated. besides all the usual and brutal work, they are prone to be raped by guards, bandits, their fathers, husbands, slaves, or anyone strong enought to force her to that. Yup, they are even more screwed than male slaves.

and yes you can use action points for extra shifting per day.

Great ! That will be a good opportunity to roleplay. It's a flaw it's normal that it get targeted.

So no enough to risk problem from the cold ? (It's for my spell selection, if I need endure element or not, and the character would know having lived there for a long time.)

Ouch, yeah. Still I think being a woman will fit this character better, might explain her stat of mind too. She will be a little unhinged.

and yes you can use action points for extra shifting per day.

Great.

I'm nearly finished, I'll post a link to my sheet and my backstory soon.

Edit: And Xilef is ready ! You can find her here. (http://www.coyotecode.net/profiler/view.php?id=11710)

And here her backstory:
Description: Xilef can barely be qualified as plain, some would even say ugly because of her animal-like look. She as long dirty blond hair arrange in numerous braid that fall to the middle of her back and she has some fur on the side of her visage as well as along her arm and leg. Her eyes are a vibrant yellow that can be a little unsettling particularly at night.

Personality: Xilef is crazy, not the in the dangerously crazy territory, she doesn't randomly attack people or speak about imaginary creature. No she simply does not see a real difference between human and animal. After all she's been treated as worst than an animal for all her life. She particularly revere cat above all, and would save the life of a cat before that of a human. If someone is nice to her she will purr, when angry she will arch her back and growl. She has a very cat-like demeanor it can be a little disturbing.

Backstory: Like nearly everyone else, Xilef is a slave, this is not normally a pleasant life. In addition to that she's a woman and she add been used and abused since an early age. In the very beginning she try fighting it but after repeated betting she just retire in her own world. Her only real companionship come from the cat that live in and around the carry. They aren't really friendly with anyone but they're not deliberately aggressive and that's a whole lot better than how most human treat her. A particular incident is to note, a few year ago a caravan transporting animal for the private zoo of one lord stop close to the carry. In one of the cage was a magnificent tiger and as soon as Xilef seen it, she feel to her knee in veneration. Since then she pray every day to the great cat, not knowing the word tiger, she pray for anything and nothing. She spent what little available free time she has observing the cats and comparing them to the tiger. It's a this point that her madness really manifest.

Here is the complete character sheet for Korin Fal (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=314451). His information is on the sheet, but I'll repost it here

Physical Description
Korin Fal is big in every sense of the word. He towers over almost anybody, with massive muscles and broad shoulders visible beneath his dark skin. His black hair is short, and his eyes are emerald green, and seem to shine from within. His stare tends to unnerve people, and his face rarely shows any emotion.

Personality
Before recieving his power, Korin Fal was a quiet and obedient slave whose size and self assuredness made his captors nervous.

With the change in ability that came over him, a fire seems to have been lit within Korin's soul. He is passionate, focused, and uncomprimising in his ideals. He speaks with conviction, acts without hesitation, and allows nothing to stand in his way.

Backstory
Centuries ago, a group of nomads calling themselves the Fal were captured and enslaved. Though their freedom was lost, their legends and beliefs continued on, passed from generation to generation by word of mouth. Their faith in their guardian spirits kept hope alive, and through this hope, the endured.

Korin Fal had faith in these beliefs, to an extent that astonished those he encountered. In spite of the harsh reality his people endured, he believed wholeheartedly that the spirits of his ancestors would guide events to lead the Fal to a brighter future. There was no need to rebel, or resist, or complain, because the spirits were working to fix everything.

One night, however, he had a dream. He saw the spirits of his ancestors, twisted with pain and rage, held in chains of bone. The ancestors spoke to him, all at once, with a single voice.

"As the Spirits shape the land, the land shapes the spirits. It is a great cycle. When our people suffer, we suffer with them. We have fought with all our might, but the forces on this side are to great. Only in the mortal world can our people be saved. You have a faith stronger than any other. Be our champion. End this suffering. We entrust this task to you."

Korin Fal awoke a changed man, and not just in terms of the power he had been granted. His mind, which had been content to wait for the spirits to release him, one way or the other, was now fully awakened, and focused on his goal.

The bars shall break. The injustice shall end. This nation shall fall.

You don't need loads of ice and snow to die from freezing. spend the night in the open with no clothes and no fire and you will be in trouble.

What i mean is that weather can be brutal, even if it's not an artic setting that forbids you from moving to the outside. game starts at the end of summer.

@zangan: I like the cat thing. Also, you might have been pregnant and aborted many times over the years - if any child ever survived is up to you.

Binders gain access to supernatural abilities by binding vestiges to themselves. In my character's case, it represents him channelling his ancestor spirits. The ignore special requirements allows me to bind vestiges without worrying about any special conditions they might have. It's kind of like what escew materials is to a spellcaster.

Edit: Binders are from the tome of magic

OK...

Crafty's a Duskblade//Binder.

Duncfoo's a Warblade//Artificer.

Vollmond's a Sorcerer//Favored Soul.

Zagan's a Druid//Barbarian.

Is that right? It seems that everyone except Vollmond is a capable melee combatant, which leads me to believe that we don't need any more melee. Between he and Zagan we should have most of our casting covered... but what we don't have is a sneaky-type/skillmonkey. Looks like I'm going Bard//Rogue!

@Beschoren - Did you mean you are unfamiliar w/ Artificer? Its in the Eberron Player's Guide (I think, may have been campagin guide). Its a crafting / magic item focused classes that gets a limited "Infusion" spell list that allows them to enhance items by providing effects like "Pick a +1 Weapon / Armor Enhacement to add to the Item". Infusions take 1 minute to cast (typically) but can have that reduced to 1 round by spending 1 action point. They also get Use Magic Item, Open Lock, Search, Disable Device to make a passable trap monkey... Hopefully that wasn't unneeded!

@ Lyndworm - I may have Open / Disable / Search already covered for skills if you want to spread those skill points otherwise... Although they can be useful for 2 characters to have.

Uidon T'trow (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=316125)
Physical:
Uidon T'trow is of medium height a stocky build. He has worked underground or in a factory forge for so long his skin is pale. Uidon keeps his head and face shorn of hair, if only to give the lice and fleas less places to hide. His head is very blocky with a strong brow and chin defining his face. His eyes are dark points in his face surrounded by wrinkes from squinting into his fires. His hands are large for his arms. They look like hands made from gnarled wood and are covered in many burns and small injuries all the way up his forearms.

Personality

Uidon approaches problems in systematic ways. Things are heated, bent and quenched. This is a state of mind he has forced himself into. He is bright and speaks in direct forceful terms. Uidon is not eloquent and is often stubborn and grumpy when proven wrong. These moods never last long as his more logical side wins out and a problems then disected in quickest way possible. Uidon had become a teacher and leader among the craft slaves, a position he was rightl uncomfortable with. Uidon is a slave and has had the mentality of a slave until recently. His only goal was to avoid the lash, although he has never sold out others to avoid punishment. Uidon's goal was not to be the nail hammered or the board unsecured but simply to do quality work. Until...

Backstory

T'Trow is not even a family name. Its a city of slaves far to the south that has been in slavery before the slaves even know. T'Trow is a mark that means this thing is nothing. Uidon has never seen outside of the slave-city walls, literally never seen beyond the walls of his compound. He showed competence in the child pen's with mechanics when he released the catch on his pen using a stiff peice of straw that had blown in over the wall. No children escaped, all just froze as the gate swung open back and forth for hours before a guard came. Uidon was beaten. From there on in Uidon sought only to avoid the gaze of his slavers. Uidon was assigned to the Craft Slaves at a young age and worked in the foundrys ever since. He crafted his own chains when he came of age, watching the guard's laugh as they manacled him with the barely cooled pig iron. He kept his eyes down as they did so.

"Art" was something constant in Uidon's mind, not that he had a name for it. He had seen other's hauled off for drawing in the dirt, picking designs in wood or adding uneeded filagree to a wagon wheel. The overseers knew the creative types were a danger and they were culled. Uidon hammered and welded all the metal works that he was handed but in the shower of sparks or the steam of a quench he saw beautiful designs. Flowers, of which Uidon had seen few, became an obsession of his and madly he fought his hands to hammer no design other than function into each metal platter he produced. Uidon's work were exceptional in sturdiness and design even then and he was noticed.

Uidon was eventually given his own position of "power" teaching the rudimentary metals skills to new Craft Slaves as old ones died. His own abilities with metals improved and the project he was assigned became more complex. It started with a set of cutlery, which was counted in front of him while a guard held an axe ready to chop him down. It was the elegance of a butcher's knife, a crude cleaver really. It needed a flared handle and if given just another hammer and quench, introducing another fold, the blade would have... But no, the thought itself was death. Eventually the needs for weapons somewhere overwhelmed the need for The Empire to to never let a slave know a weapon themselves and Uidon was ordered to produce a brace of functional swords. Each one that left his station was of the highest quality. To Uidon all he saw was what was missing parts. The petal motfit that would curve up from the guard, the patterning on the blade, the pommel insert that was loving hands, a skull, a wire basket. After picking up his first finished blade he looked across the room and saw the world level. The floor dropped out from under his fear with it. The only thing seperating him and guard across the room now was 20 feet of floor, and some chainmail, which this sword would thrust through... Quickly he put the sword down feeling his brain whirling into a frenzy about the future. It would have to be a future with a sword he saw. He hammered through the day dreaming of crossing that 20' and practicing another Art that he had never known he had.

Nah, I almost have more skill points than I know what to do with, frankly. Besides, no one but me has Trapfinding (unless Artificers have it, but I didn't think they did). If you want to be trained in Disable Device and/or Open Lock that's fine by me, of course, but I think I've got the situation covered. If nothing else, you could use Aid Other checks to boost my check, I guess.

Can I take the Arcane Performer (http://www.realmshelps.net/cgi-bin/featbox.pl?feat=Arcane_Performer) flaw?

Hum, DC is a bit too low, i think. You will have 9 ranks in perform and at least +3 modifier to cha at this level, allowing you to cast up to 3 level spells even rolling 1 - and you only get 3 level spells in the next level!

what I mean is that the flaw won't actually hinder you at this level, much less in the next ones. Either chose another flaw or we must rise the DC.

I never played with one, PC or NPC. I'll take a look on eberon's player guide just to see the mechanics (like those crafting points)

----------------------------------
Just to remind you we're using the defense bonus (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/defenseBonus.htm) to remove the need for armor.

Duskblade//Binder = +6AC

Warblade//Artificer = +6AC

Sorcerer//Favored Soul = +6AC

Druid//Barbarian = +6AC

Rougue//Bard = +5AC

Sorry, I didn't really think about how easy the DC would be... Howabout changing it to 10 + 1/2 ECL + Spell Level? That would make the DC 13 + Spell Level at this level and next level, but the level after that it would increase to 14 + Spell Level. At level 20 the DC would be 20 + Spell Level.

hum, actually it stacks...

From SRD
"Base Save Bonus

A saving throw modifier derived from character class and level. Base save bonuses increase at different rates for different character classes. Base save bonuses gained from different classes, such as when a character is a multiclass character, stack."

In gestalt saves might become fuzzy when you mix good and poor saves in 3 or more classes (like a ninja/fighter/psy warrior:smallredface:)

i can't find the table that discribes fractional saves with ease...

oh, and what WTM in your sheet stands for? also, why is it level 5 on the druid side of the gestalt? were' playing level 6

I think that makes it. your perform modifier should allways be a bit bellow the highest spell level you can cast, so there is allways a small chance fo failure, at least for your best spells. set then.

That's not what I mean I don't want to add the bonus from druid and barbarian but from barbarian and weretouched master.
I know how fractional bab and save work its just that I can never remember if you multiclass or prestige class in a class that offer the same good save if you get the +2 bonus twice. Example

Barbarian have good for save, 2+1/2 level. The weretouched master also have a good fort save, still 2+1/2 level.
With the normal method five level of barbarian give you a fort save of +4 if you add WTM 1 you get +6.
With fractionnal save and stacking +2 bonus you have +7 (6/2+2+2)
With fractionnal save and non stacking +2 bonus you have +5 (6/2+2)

I'm not sure I'm clear.
After checking UA (p73) with example it seem that the +2 bonus stack. I let you be the judge.

oh, and what WTM in your sheet stands for? also, why is it level 5 on the druid side of the gestalt? were' playing level 6

Druid 5 was a typo. WTM is weretouched master (ECS p85) it's a shifter Prc that give you various bonus on shifting.

Kanros Jartik (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=321650)

Background:
Too small to be of much use at physical labor but gifted with a swift mind and small fingers, Kanros was made to be an assistant tinkerer. It was his job to fix and build things such as locks, clocks, and the various pulleys used in the mines. At night he would do his best to entertain the other slaves and keep their morale up by singing, but it wasn't long until his voice was noticed by the people in charge. So by day Kanros worked on the machinery and by night he sang for his captors, with little time to visit the children he had sired and even less time to sleep. The demanding schedule soon became too much for him and his work began to slip. When a pulley failed and killed one of the overseers it was tracked back to Kanros and the overseer's father, a man of great standing in the eyes of Kanros' captors, demanded retribution. Kanros' only son was killed before his very eyes as punishment. That was twelve years ago, and he hasn't sang a word since.

Since we have casters, do we at least get spell component pouches and divine focuses? Pretty please?

Can we have "free" gear? IE, clubs and slings have no GP cost (presumably these would need to have been hidden somewhere to keep from getting in trouble, but any of us could have made them easily enough from detritus lying around the ghetto)

Well, i don't want to simply remove this challange, nor prevent you to use your class skills, but we can work out stuff...

gliterdust - Ground mica = dirt
mount - A bit of horse hair = your own hair
grease - A bit of pork rind or butter = spit
mage armor - A piece of cured leather = what are whips made of?
summon mosnter III - A tiny bag and a small (not necessarily lit) candle = Well, that can't be hard to find
silent image - A bit of fleece = any rasgs will do

shield of faith - A small parchment with a bit of holy text written upon it. = er... use your creativity!

Overall, I think we can have fun by using makeshift material components

There are about 70 slaves and 35 overseers/managers in the quarry.

The slaves are kept in 3 pens: two underground (where you extract stones) and another outside (where you craft stuff, load carts, do other things). they are nicknamed Pit, Hole, and Rain. The entire complex has the area of about 5 soccer fields.

Each pen traps you with natural cliffs or caves and have 2 poor iron gates. some overssers stay inside the pens wiping you all day long, some keep watching the exits while the others sleep/get drunk.

All slaves are humans, lv 1-3 communers, curently shaken and fatigueted.
You avarage oversser uses a whip and bashes with a club to repress you.
Some stronger ones also have whips but also uses and trow spears
There are some professional soldiers for when lethal repression is required (including among the overssers) they got armor, shields, swords and bows.
An ogre, Gulnash, is the head overseer. He enjoys killing slaves.
A single manager keeps this crap from falling apart. He is with the soldiers most of the time.

There are 3 other quarries in this region, much like your own. the closest town is about two days away.

Wow. Xilef is a total blender.

Nah, my blender is a warforged totemist//swordsage with minimum thirteen attack per round. (more if I really optimize him)
Xilef is, despite her potential power, more and attempt to optimized a fluff concept than to make a melee beast. (I droped wildshaped and animal companion for example)

Warning to the other player, Xilef won't bow down she will attack nearly immedialty. If you want to do something first or convince her to no do so you need to act to prevent it.

I like the spell variety. My only suggestion would be to get Close Wounds (Cleric level 2 spell). It gives you an ranged immediate action heal that combos well with the favored soul ability that gives temp hp (forgetting the name...). Knowing my dumb though touch of healing already covers that. For later if needed... Elation is an awesome level 2 spell I have never seen it used.

I was looking again at the defense bonus (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/defenseBonus.htm) variant and it says nothing about losing it while flat-foted, only that it adds to touch attacks.

clearly they missed the flat-footed part. Let's rule out that you lose your defense bonus if you're flat-footed. Please note that anyone wearing armor as DR (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/armorAsDamageReduction.htm) will still keep his current armor bonus if caught flat-foted, even if he lose the defense bonus

of course, if you have uncunny dodge then your defense donus apply as well as your dex bonus.

Honestly, I don't see Seanon as being religious to any degree (I think he will be surprised at his healing abilities more than anything else), so I have no particular preference as long as the favored weapon is one we have access to

Great. i've just got a great (?) RP idea to highlight Xilef madness. When she cast spell she always see the result has being cat-like in a way, even if you need to really streach thing for it. For example if she cast summon monster I to get a wolf, she get a wolf and everyone see a wolf but she thinh it's a linx. If she cast entangle she don't see just vine entangling people she see cats made of vine tripping people up. Mechanically it doesn't change anything of course, but her power come from the Great Tiger and so her magic reflect it, in her view.

Hum, deities... You can take any published one you want. There's no organized religion at all in the Country, plenty of room for shaministic/minor gods. Being a favored soul, however, does not require you to worship things - you are simply "chosen" and touched with power - seanon dosen't have to be religisou jsut because he casts divine spells.

as for wepons you will find, well, i don't think it will be a problem. most martial wepons will be arround, and those that don't might be crafted.

Nothing to contribute for destroying the gate. I could perhaps summon a toqqua (wilef would see a lava panther) to burrow below it and create confusion to the guard behind. But I'm not sure it's worth the loss of ressource and time (1 round summoning).

er, not sure you noticed on the map, but the gate has 2 "gates".

one is closed and locked (lines 6-7), the other is open (lines 2-3) and has several slaves on the other side.

you might need to break both if you can't prevent the 2 one form closing.

The gate, and the bars, are made of iron. It's locked by a large lock with a large chain, you can try to brust it (strenght check) or hack it down (dealing with hardness and hit points)

Duncfoo, in this game the PC playing order dosen't really matter, so don't worry.

Isually I rule out that you take the "most benefical order" - so you can react acordingly some circunstance or buff. You cna atc after or before any PC in the "players turn". you may also change or re-post your actions according to the others decisions (I'm pretty sure none of you will actually cheat to change your actions just because of a bad roll)

of course, "most benefical order" also apply for the bad guys, like focusing all zombie attacks on a PC only if an evernation spell hits (good time, heh Logan?)

So i had the summuned ape take a move action and attack one of the slingers, cutting off any escape route. since th first attack was a critical hit threat, I used the second to confirm it... and, well, it kills the slinger

lindworm?
I've been quite sick over the past week or so, sleeping most of the day. My personal computer's been out of commission for some time, and I've not felt well enough to find another one from which to post until quite recently. However, I feel quite a bit better now and would like to resume my normal activities. I'm very, very sorry I've vanished.

Regarding the game at hand, what level spell did Kanros attempt to use, so that I can mark it on his sheet?

I want Xilef to charge at the slinger in F3, to do that she need to jump above the one in F5 and I'm not sure of the DC if it's a long jump I need a DC 5 for jumping 5 feet if it's a high jump it's 20 or 24. But what's the DC for both combined ?

I'll roll here for the check and let Beschoren decid on the DC.

Long Jump

A long jump is a horizontal jump, made across a gap like a chasm or stream. At the midpoint of the jump, you attain a vertical height equal to one-quarter of the horizontal distance. The DC for the jump is equal to the distance jumped (in feet).

so to achive 6 feet tall (jump over the wounded overseer) at the middle of you jump (line intersection 4-5) you would need a long jump check of 24.

as amazing as the stunt is, is perfectly legal and you rolled just enought to do it. Xilef succeds on the overhead jump. you generate an AoO from the F-5, and E-5 overseers however (E-5 drawn his club as he moved)

it's ok, eveyone has RL from time to time.

I suposedly used a bardic song use, not a spell. in this turn already you finish the "start" of the song (a full round action) and can move, attack etc as normal.

this also means that you bardic music inpire courage bonus is on. everyone gets +2 on attacks and damage (thanks to song of the heart)

Also, the AoOs made by Kanros and the ape kill the overseer curently at E-4

As a player I know that our current foe aren't really our oppresor and are barelly above slave on the totem pool. But my character clearly remember being abused not sooner than yesterday so she not inclined to show mercy.

Zangan: yes, encounter over. xilef can hear the ogre overseer still shouting, but can't tell if someone is coming or not.

Crafty: between intimidate, diplomacy and clear displays of magic, the slaves are now much more prone to do exactly as you say. Indeed, they striked at the fallen guards by cowardice and anger.

Ducnfoo: good reminder on Reserve hit points. they are there not to overload one of you with the healing burden.

I think it's a good point for you to discuss what and how to do. This game should be pretty open and revolving on your actions (like, not accepting the slaves to kill helpless prisioners and effectively putting yourself in the leader's position).

The reminder of the cave is not long. in 1-2 minutes you can reach the exit.

There's a manager on the mine that orders the ogre. You rarely see him and are not sure of why the ogre obeys him - but you are pretty sure this manager is no warrior or adventurer, much less a mage. At any rate, the ogre has "free pass" on several subjects and considers the quarry his playground. It would not be surprinsing that the ogre himself is chosing how to repel the rebelion.

There's a town nearby - Phillg - that recives the production from the nearby mines (remember that are 3 slave-fueled mines in this region), produces food and trade. It takes about 12 hours to get there on foot..... Being a slave, you don't know much more about it....

being a slave, you don't know much about the rest of the country either...

That's more than enough info for me. We might want to take this manager alive if possible.
And 12 hours travel time mean that they can for backup fast unless they have magical mean to communicate but that seem doubtful considering the setting.

I'm concerned as to the viability of waiting in the cave. we have no rela supplies, and the guards might just decide to collapse the place and let us starve.

Despite my genre savvy-ness, I think we should split the party. One group stays with the other slaves and fortifies the cave's defences. the other group can make hit and run attacks on the guards to keep the heat away from group one. If we can keep them paniced and confused, we can neutralise the advantage their numbers give them.

I can enhance some of the bullets using my Artificer infusions so that our "artillery" is more effective. I can do the same just for simple rocks and such. Each spell takes 1 minute to cast and can give any ammo a +1 enhancement. So maybe a flaming or something on their ammo?

I agree with Crafty.

I am against staying in the cave. We are recently freed slaves in the middle of an uprising. I think we are all malnourished, without food and water and facing a enemy who's expectations aren't yet set. What if they throw a scout or two in and start finding out our powers?

Uidon would be for freeing the slaves and spending maybe 5 minutes or less rallying and preparing them before charging forth from the cave and slaughtering / capturing their over seers. Longer then that we are just allowing them to beef up defenses / send for help. Imagine you are this Ogre. You are probably just excited to butcher a few slaves. Give him a few days of losing people to us and he is just going to call the next town.

Maybe one ambush before an assault out of the cave.

We don't need to wait long, an hour or two should suffice. Plus collapsing the cave seem improbable to me, you would need lot of noisy work for that or explosive. We'll heard the first and the second seem really doubtful.

Here are a few of my tactical opinions

I do think that the cave could serve as a good defensible position, but I dont think we should just wait for the enemy to come to us. If we just wait for the enemy to make the first move, they'll probably attack all at once and overwhelm us

if the members in our group with speed and/or stealth take out a few ranking enemies, it will comprimise their structure and keep them disorginised.

We should try and take the armoury if possible. With so many armed men here they should have some kind of storage facility, and claiming it will make their ammunition limited while giving our followers access to decent gear.

Taking their food stores would also be a good move if it seems like things are going to become drawn-out.

Getting onto the clifftops would be another good move. Our followers can harrass any guards below with sling stones, and a full on zerg rush by the guards would be far less effective.

Finally, we should try to take prisoners where possible and practical. They may know more about the facilities here or the surrounding countryside, and if we can persuade them to join us then some actual combat experience would strengthen our forces.

Those are my thoughts on the situation. Does anyone have any other ideas or should we start coming up with a plan of action?

Sorry for bossing around a little in character. Just keeping it rolling.

I agree with Crafty on his basic assessment. We are coming out into a kill zone with gates around us and archers on the cliffs. The more time they get the worse that will get.

Maybe have Xilef or Kanros scout forward and run like hell back if there is a problem?

I have an idea to put "Arrow Attracting", "Spearblock" and "Hammerblock" on the shield if given another minute. Combined with "Roaring" on Uidon's armor its pretty nasty. Attracts projectiles, reduces the damage by 5, and spits the projectile back at the shooter if it does less then 10 damage.

let uidon stand next to Korin as he walks up, maybe have xilef climb the bluff with some summon support, break out some illusions to confuse / distract. Have the slaves hang back and bombard until we crack thr gates?

I love tactical planning. Sorry for double post.

You all know this mining camp pretty well, if you want to know something about it just ask me.

the "staff room" inside the caves is pretty small - just minor infrastructure for the guards within the inside pens. Wepons, armor and suplies for the entire camp are outside. You surely won't find enought for all the 29 of you.

The cliffwall on the platos are all 30 feet high and climb DC 15, and some spots have traps to prevent the slaves from climbing it (chance on d%). be mindfull of climb checks rules when under attack.

And yes, the Ogre would be overjoyed to kill several slaves.

how do the guards access the cliffs? if they use some kind of ladder, then one person could climb up and drop it down to the others.

I think we shouldn't try to be to effective early in this battle. If they think we pose a serious threat they'll call for backup uickly, but if we seem like we just got a little lucky then the ogre will treat it like hunting animals and be much more likely to let his guard down.

Let's see, Seanon could summon some scouts, but they'd cost a 3rd-level spell and wouldn't last long. Alternatively, I can give a nice +8 to spot for anyone who does scout. Or a transferable spycam... just have to touch a guard or somebody. Unfortunately, no invisibility-type abilities.

For more active tactics, I have mist and illusions... could make it easier to get out of the cave when we go, at least. Want some horses for a cavalry attack?

It seems unlikely they'll try to collapse the mine - they've put quite a lot of work into opening it up. Assuming the manager person can control the ogre... I expect ogre boy would be happy to drop it.

Crafty Cultist
2011-10-25, 12:18 AM
Collapsing the mine doesn't sound likely for the ogre either. By the time he had the other slaves dig our bodies out we would be to messed up to eat.

I'm still for taking the plateau. If we break through the gate, Xilef can use her speed to get onto the plateau and stop them bombarding us from the high ground.

If we jam the locks on the eastern gates, we can close that path, at least temporarily, which will make the area south of the west gate.

Dropping the rope bridge to the southernmost plateau would create a makeshift ladder, and destroying the north rope ladder and the shoddy staircase would prevent any guards from making their way up.

Duncfoo
2011-10-25, 12:07 PM
Oh I like all of that from Seannon. I think for sure the Mist / Illusions will be useful. And Summons are always nice.

What I propose;
I throw "Aporter" (+3 Armor Enhancement) on Korin. This gives him dimension Door 2x a day. He seizes the cliffs by porting up there and slaughtering. If things go sideways, port back out.

Uidon draws initial missle barrages and hopefully survives due to his various AC buffs and armor enhancements. He then tries to seize or"defend" the main gate or directly engage enemies in that courtyard.

Xilef supports as needed; Either by attempting to climb the cliffs, assisting Uidon if he is getting overwhelmed. She could also scale the two gates or attempt to break the lock... Or breaking out some Druid control?

Seannon Throws some mist at the cave mouth, a second in the courtyard if things get hairy for Uidon. Possibly summons to support Korin on the cliff and then lay waste/support as desired.

Kanros uses some pre buffs and then supports as needed using Illusions / spells. Can Kanros scout? maybe also have him go check out what we are going to run into. Also Possibly support Uidon/Korin with some ranged attacks or spells. If things are going well maybe pick the locks @ the slave gates?

Slaves = Have them support from the Mist with ranged attacks? Maybe if some of them show som spine they can join us in the courtyard. If we break down the two gates I think we should encourage the slaves to rush into the caves. Gets them out of the line of fire, joins their charged up breathren.

Yep, thats a wall of words.

Crafty Cultist
2011-10-25, 12:23 PM
If I dimension door up to the cliff, which should be first priority, knocking down the rope bridge so it can be used as a ladder or cutting off the guards paths up there?

If I teleport to the southernmost plateau then cut the bridge down, I can then teleport across the gap and keep the guards from cutting the other end while Xilef climbs the bridge. Then we can take out the paths and the soldiers together.

If I teleport to the main plateau first, I can destroy the pathways myself. That means fewer guards to fight, but I would have to face the men already there without support.

How about you go best judgement on that. It really depends on how many people are on the cliffs, etc. Southern place gives you a good start, easy to defend approach. No good plan survives contact.

Is everyone ok with this plan? It will require one more minute for me to do some buffs, and then I'll burn an Action point on making my infusion for Korin @ 1 round when he has his armor again before combat. Lets discuss this some IC.

Dropping the rope bridge to the southernmost plateau would create a makeshift ladder, and destroying the north rope ladder and the shoddy staircase would prevent any guards from making their way up.

The staircase, even poorly made, is way to solid to blow up with some regular attacks. fireball-like special attacks could do the trick, but i think you don't even have one of those.

the rope ladders can be cut off and used a birdge, yes. Two slashing attacks against AC 14, harness 0 and 2 hit points (or 2 brust checks DC 23) will cut the bridge. mind which end you're cutting, would you?

Beshoren: Among the keys that we get from the guard does one could open one of the outside gate ?

perhaps. you can't really tell. you could test some of them on the 4 gates you have on your reach

note that the heavy, western barred gate (that gives acess to the inner camp where the guards live) does not open with a key-and-lock. It's barred with a heavy iron bar and does not open form "your side" of the gate, it opens only from inside.

Kanros uses some pre buffs and then supports as needed using Illusions / spells.
Unfortunately, Kanros can only cast dancing lights, detect magic, inspirational boost, and prestidigitation. He does know invisibility and some image spells, but he can't cast them without an eyelash and sum gum arabic or some fleece (respectively).

Can Kanros scout? maybe also have him go check out what we are going to run into.
Fortunately, he is indeed a pretty good scout. +12 Hide/Move Silently and +8 Listen/Spot.

Also Possibly support Uidon/Korin with some ranged attacks or spells. If things are going well maybe pick the locks @ the slave gates?
As I mentioned, spells aren't really an option right now. Ranged attacks Kanros can do, though, and he has +12 Open Lock.

Even if I can't break the stairway easily, a few power attacks should damage the steps, right? Once we make the top couple of steps unbalanced, the enemies climbing up will be harried by unstable footing and if they slip then gravity will deal with them for us.

Using the dimension door ability, could I bring someone up with me? I doubt Xilef will listen to much strategy in the heat of battle, but if she goes feral and starts slaughtering everyone it will make bringing down the bridges a lot easier.

I forgot Dimension Door isn't just you! That may work our really well bring Xilef up there. It will save her a turn of climbing, some traps damage / effects. I say we have the few of us walk out (witin 5' of Uidon), taunt these bastards, and then Xilef and Korin can port to the best place @ that time.

It worked ! Weird problem never seen that before.

Anyway, if we can both port we may not need to cut the bridge.

checking something: No it won't work the aporter property work only on the one wearing the armor. And it's not +3 it's a straight 20 000gp.

Crafty Cultist

My plan for claiming the plateau is roughly as follows

1. Korin and Xilef teleport to the southernmost plateau

2. Xilef runs across the bridge to engage the guards there and keep them from severing that side of the ladder. Meanwhile Korin deals with any guards on the platform where they arrived.

3. Once Xilef has crossed the bridge, Korin will cut the ropes to make an impromtu ladder for those below, then dimension door over to the central area, then cut the rope bridge leading to the northeast.

4. Xilef continues dealing with the guards already on the plateau, while Korin holds of any trying to climb the steps, and tries to damage the stairway while doing so. Any others who have climbed up will try to find objects to form a barricade to make the top of the steps better defended.

As for the gates below, I think that jamming the locks on the north east gates would be a good move. even if our keys work in them, I doubt we have the only set so their not really that defensible. assuming the gates have bars, we could attack any enemies approaching enimies from makeshift cover. nothing will stop the enemy doing the same, but a long, drawn out fight like that is preferable to them rushing us all at once

the barred gate we can't really interfere with, so we should set up defenses that utilise the choke point for the greatest possible benifit.

aporter here... I'll check some rules on Uidon crafting skills to see if a flat +20k is doable instead of a +3 bonus

APORTER
Price: +20,000 gp
Property: Armor or shield
Caster Level: 10th
Aura: Moderate; (DC 20) conjuration
Activation: Standard (mental)
Your eyes skip around this aqua-tinged item, as
if having difficulty precisely locating it.
When it is activated, a suit of armor or
shield that has this property transports
you and your equipment to any spot
within 800 feet that you can visualize or
specify, as the dimension door spell.
The aporter property functions two
times per day.

I either missed or forgot that, and I am thrilled to read it now. OK, I should be able to find suitable replacement materials for all of my spells. We should proceed assuming that I am capable of casting from a list of: dancing lights, detect magic, ghost sound, prestidigitation, inspirational boost, silent image, invisibility, and minor image.

If I can find the right items, I may also be able to cast the following: alarm (bell and silver wire), message (copper wire), and glitterdust (ground mica).

I agree. It should be noted, however, that overtly offensive actions will end the invisibility spell. Indirectly offensive actions are allowed, however, and the specific example of "[cutting] the ropes holding a rope bridge while enemies are on the bridge" is actually in the spell's description.

Ground Micca = Ground Shale, Obsidian Flakes, "Ground Shiny Stone"
Yes, I figure just about any shiny, powder-like substance would work. We might be able to find something like that, but I wouldn't bank on it just yet.

Bell & Silver Wire = Fine Thread & 2 rough metal pieces
That one seems to be stretching it to me, but it shouldn't be too hard to just make a rough bell. After all, any hollow bit of metal that makes a reverberating noise when you hit it is a bell.

Coppe Wire = Tiny tiny copper flake (hey, it doesn't say how much!)
Not specifically, but it does say "short piece of," so I'd assume it has to at least look like wire.

If I used the aporter ability to appear above a guard, could I crush them with the weight of my armor?

yes. since you're about 125lb with your armor, you deal 1d6 for 10 feet of falling. remember you might hurt yourself if you fall too much.

The trick is ending in the same square as your opponent. let's houserule this out:

make a touch attack. if you miss, you land in an safe adjacent square.

make a trip attempt with a +2 bonus for every 10 feet of falling.

This would generate an AoO, but he's likely to be flat-footed.

make a jump check as if jumping down (DC 15). if you succed, you consider your fall 10 feet shorter to determine the amount of damage you take. if you don't have at least 1 rank in jump and fail the DC by 5 or more, you end up prone. mind armor check penality.

if neither you and your target fall prone, your target is pushed 5 feet away to another square (since he's lighter)

deal?

How about we have the slavers join us after the initial round or two? We can soak up some of the alpha, possibly get the rope bridge cut / left gate taken down and have then help us swarm up the cliffs and over the remaining slavers.

I think we'll be fine. Glitterdust and a few other effects will hit whole bunches of the slavers, we got some pretty powerful effects rolling. Lets go bananas on these suckers.

I can get the left gate down with Mountain Hammer and go defensive (+Displacement) for fighting the Orge until we've cleaned up more of these slavers. Again, most plans are totally going to get blown out by what happens. I am looking forward to this fight

-------

More specific: Lets move A,21 Area and pre buff / Summon for the battle, have the slave start behind us. If Seanon wants throw out Obscuring Mist.

Have Korin, Seanon, Xilef (Kanros stays Invis) walk within 5' around Uidon to F,21 = Using Attracting + Roaring to hopefully hit enemies with own projectiles

During this time Kanros can try and pick the lock on the 1st slaver gate?

Move to around H,17 (Same Formation)- Make Some Speeches / All Hell Breaks Loose

Have Korin Teleport to 1st Bluff and begin cutting bridge, Xilef moves to begin climbing cliffs.
Seanon disables / buffs as appropriate

If no combat, move forward

Have signal for Slaves (Combat breaking out), Slaves start double moving forward = Split into 3 groups:

3. 1/3 to climb or destroy the right gates to slave pens

The cliffwall on the platos are all 30 feet high and climb DC 15, and some spots have traps to prevent the slaves from climbing it (chance on d%). be mindfull of climb checks rules when under attack.

Using the cut-off rope brigde reduces the climb DC to 5. it also greatly reduces the chances of you setting off a trap. be mindfull of the slavers over there, you can't simply enter their square.

I don't think the slaves should start climbing the bridge until Xilef or Korin is defending the top. When the bridge is first cut, it should look like an attempt to prevent the guards from overwhelming, so they'll probably focus on more important things, but when the reason for cutting thebridge is revealed they'll act quickly to stop themselves being overwhelmed.

Also his the hypogriff dazzled too ? He was summoned at the mine entrance.

Kanros unlocks the gate (a single move action to open it. He can reach the next gate with a 5 foot step).
Not to contradict you, but the entry for Open Lock says it requires a Full-Round action. If you want to rule that it only takes a Move action that's great, but I wanted to say [/i]why[/i] I put down a longer time.

The reason I bring this up is because Kanros only spent a single Move action last round (by your ruling), leaving him with a Standard/Move unused. Since he can 5ft-step to the next gate as a free action, he could theoretically have made another Open Lock check to open the second gate in the same round.

Would it be too terrible of me to ask if such a thing would be allowed now that we've moved on, freeing up this round for Kanros entirely?

Nice move with the Bigby's Crafty. Poor guy didn't have a chance.

I was thinking of hitting Kanros with White Raven Tactics to get him into the fight after unlocking the gate.

Oh, that's not really what I meant.
You unlocked the gate as a full round action.
Now you have to pull it back (open it) to acess the next gate, as a single move action.

so, this next turn, you spend a move action to open the gate you unlocked, a 5 foot step to reach the next gate, and starts unlocking the next gate (a standad action part of a full-round action).

by the end of the next round you finish unlocking the gate (a move action part of a full-round action) and still have a standard action left to use as you want.

I've just realise something. I want to appologize because I don't have itterative attack, my Bab is only +5 and not +6. Somehow I was sure that you get itterative attack at +5 bab instead of +6. So yeah sorry.
