Managed to get myself slightly confused trying to work out an encounter level. What encounter level would it be for a party to take on:

1 level 5 human rogue
1 level 5 human adept
3 level 1 human rogues

Go here: d20srd.org (http://www.d20srd.org/)

Over on the right hand column, there is a link to an encounter calculator.

Plug in the info you have (you have to figure out the CRs of each foe).

You can also include the level(s) of you player characters, and it will calculate how much XP the PCs should recieve from defeating the encounter.

EDIT:

The human rogue5 is CR 5.

The human adept5 is IIRC, CR 3.

The human rogue1s are CR1.

You might add one EL if the NPCs are in an environment that helps them and hinders the PCs.

Why do you need to know? That's not a wise-ass question- it changes the answer.

If you're looking at it for awarding experience, you can award experience based on the pieces and it should work out the same as it would if you had the overall encounter level calculated.

If you're looking at whether you party can handle it, that depends tremendously on your party size and composition and on terrain/encounter specifics. It's really the two level 5's that are the determining factor here- the level 1 rogues could be largely irrelevant except as brief meatshields. A well-prepared 3rd level party could possibly handle this (depending on how you set the encounter up), a 4th level certainly could, and it would be a walk over for a 5th level party.

This doesn't give you a definite number, but hopefully it helps some.
