How horrible for balance are guns?

Not horrible, especially when the DM rules that on a nat 1 they blow up and do something like 1d6 damage to the wielder.

There are several existing stats for guns in the DMG. Pages 145 and 146 have them.

I heard they are bad for they don't do anything special and don't have good stats

I mean, sure, you may as well just go for a bow or whatever. But guns allow for a completely different flavor. All kinds of different flavors. And the future weapons are crazy.

Edit: (Also, a gun can be fired with one hand, unlike a bow. Ranged dual-wielding is possible.)

Yeah, just need the RAW.

I'm referring to the ones that can, in theory, be made.

Just go for the ones on pages 145 and 146 of the DMG. There are already perfectly decent basic rules for them.

The ones that blew up in that adventure were supposed to be the more primitive sorts of guns. It was a piratey adventure, so the DM wanted to have pirates with guns. He just didn't want modern guns.

Look at this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129009&highlight=Guide+Gunpowder). Ask me questions.

I use the the guns in the DMG for my game, the musket and pistol specifically. The only change I made was for the damage die to explode on max damage. So if you roll a 10 for damage with a pistol, you get to roll the d10 again and add that to the damage.

Theres some guns in the Ravenloft books because it's meant to be Renaissance, but they aren't very good and require exotic proficiency. I'd ask your DM if you can just have the proficiency since it won't break anything.
