I've read it, and I liked it. Mara, Thrawn, and the stormtroopers all get a chance to shine, Car'das makes a reappearance, and the Big Bad of the story is pretty challenging.

Anyone else read it yet?

Zahn has a new Star Wars book out? Involving both Mara and Thrawn? Well, I've got to get ahold of that. Guess I'll have a second store to stop at tomorrow when I go pick up my copy of Catherine.

What time period is it set in?

Movies era- shortly after the Battle of Yavin (3 months after the events in Allegiance). Near the end, the Rebels are investing in cold-weather equipment- foreshadowing Hoth, though this may still be some time in the future.

Thrawn is still "Senior Captain Thrawn".

That said, the Second Death Star is already half-complete- and we see that the reason the generator didn't have forest cut down around it, was that the Emperor already had a trap in mind.

Tim Zahn's got a new Star Wars book? Looks like I'm going to the library as soon as I finish A Dance With Dragons.
