The situation was dire. Sliver forces were massing in numbers greater than the belegared automatons could hope to assemble, and they were being forced to retreat inch by inch.

"This is bravo-one, requesting air support. We are under heavy enemy attack."
"Your lucky day, Bravo-One. Air Support is Online and Inbound."
"... I didn't think that would actually work."

Ten seconds later, engineers high above finally managed to disconnect the docking bays from the ship. And they fell. And fell. And fell.

That night it rained fire.


"Out of the rubble on the field an arm stired. Slowly, it pulled itself out of the broken rocks and burnt metal, and pulled itself to it's feet. It was a human figured, coated in broken armor and covered in blood and gore, but alive. One of the dozens of grey figures picking their way across the waste rushed over within a few minutes, only relaxing it's vast cutting armament when it came within a few minutes.
"Oh, you survived, commander. It's over. We won."
The Gods Themselves had come against humanity, and they had won. There were maybe a hundred of them left, scattered and broken on the dying mothership above, that was now landing softly on the field. But they had won.
