Hey everybody I know that blasters are typically bad in regards to how capable wizards can be. I want to be a blaster though.

level 9 and human. Right now the only (other) 2 things for me that are for sure is I am going to be a wizard 5/War Mage 4 ( not the base class, the PrC from Age of Mortals)

Other than a couple of the sudden meta magic feats I don't knwo what else to be running for here.

any tips on othe feats and suh will be nice, and yes I do plan on going into incantrix after I finish war mage.

just really need to know if I need anythnig that isn't too obvious.

Skip the suddens and go for mitigation of the good stuff. Metamagic School Focus, Easy Metamagic, Arcane Thesis.

Arcane Thesis on Orb of Fire, with Searing Spell, Energy Admixture and some 0 level metas will blow anything away at your level. That'll leave your level 1-3 spells for utility and buffs.

Dweomer Keeper+Arcane Thesis on Orb of Fire+Energy Substitution+Born of the Three Thunders=Victory.

Make sure to pick up the true strike spell, as well. For a 1st level spell, it grants you a +20 insight bonus on your next attack roll, to make sure you never miss with that orb of fire.

With Arcane Thesis and Maximize Spell you should be just fine on damage. And for your other spells, dealing with crowds won't be a problem if you grab the big three (cone of cold, lightning bolt, and fireball), for the ability to blast away a bottle neck, stop a hoarde that's heading straight for you, and clearing the space around one of your rogue friends.

Do you want to be a one or two spell specialist, or generally capable with any of your spells? For a specialist, Arcane Thesis is the obvious choice; Fire spells work well for it, because Searing Spell makes them very reliable damage. Orb of Fire plus an area option, if you can spare the feat to Arcane Thesis a second spell, well.. Fireball is still the standby for this.

General advice: Empower. Empower Empower Empower. Empower also affects any static benefits you are getting to the spell's total, which means this works amazingly well with the damage-per-die benefit you're getting from War Mage. If you go with fire spells and especially Arcane Thesis, then Fiery Spell is another excellent metamagic; 1 spell level gives you another +1 damage per die. Even without doing anything silly with Incantatrix, an (Arcane Thesis) Empowered Scorching Fiery Fireball will be doing (((d6+4)9)1.5) as a 4th-level slot.. that's a damage range of about 67 to 135, averaging 97ish. And I *think* you could fit that in your current levels, but I don't know the prereqs on War Mage so maybe a couple of your feats are stuck on that. You should definitely be able to do it if you can use Flaws for extra feats.

Thou art a scholar and a saint.

The plan goes as follows:

Build cannon.

Load it chock-full with wizards.

Blast away.

Sorry. :smalltongue:

If your DM allows it, take the Incantatrix PrC from Player's Guide to Faerun, it is a very good prestige class, especially for those using metamagic a lot, which you will be.

Ok to qualify for Warmage I need these 3 feats Combat casting, Escheew Materials, and Weapon focus. Of course i am going to take combat casting, and my weapon focus will be the super cool weapon focus: rays.

as a human wizard I get 4 feats+1 bonus and scribe scroll.

so after the prereqs for war mage I get 1 feat and 1 bonus .

Hmm. That's a pretty annoying set of prereqs.. and I don't know of any decent alternate ways to acquire that particular set. And you're wanting to get into Incantatrix, which means you need Iron Will and a Metamagic as well. So those are going to be your other 2 feats; it's really just a matter of which metamagic you want. I'd go with Empower, because of what I said in my last post.

Fell Drain is also good, though it may have prerequisites, I don't remember.

For your area spells get some kind of shaping to leave your allies out, or protection from energy. Generally the area spells are better too. Half-killing 6 things is better than sometimes fully killing 1 thing. Boom boom 6 dead vs. boom boom 2 dead.
