First off, what system is this for? 3.5? For a second when I saw bloodlines I thought it might be Pathfinder.

I think the intent was for Bloodline levels to count as character levels for all purposes beside being character levels. But that makes for very weak characters, and stifles some of the fun of minmaxing bloodlines.

I believe the common interpretation of progression goes as follows:

{table=head]Level | Exp to level up | ECL for Exp calculations
Lvl1 | 1000 | 1
Lvl2 | 2000 | 2
B1 | 2000 | 2
Lvl3 | 3000 | 3
Lvl4 | 4000 | 4
Lvl5 | 5000 | 5
B2 | 5000 | 5
Lvl6 | 6000 | 6
Lvl7 | 7000 | 7
Lvl8 | 8000 | 8
Lvl9 | 9000 | 9
Lvl10 | 10000 | 10
Lvl11 | 11000 | 11
B3 | 11000 | 11
Lvl12 | 12000 | 12
Lvl13 | 13000 | 13
Lvl14 | 14000 | 14
Lvl15 | 15000 | 15
Lvl16 | 16000 | 16
Lvl17 | 17000 | 17
Lvl18 | 18000 | 18
Lvl19 | 19000 | 19
Lvl20 | 20000 | 20
B#= Bloodline levels
Lvl# = Class levels

As I understand it, there are two interpretations for Bloodlines. One is that taking a bloodline level increases your ECL (not entirely unlike Level Adjustment), whereas the other is that 'buying' a bloodline level costs the same amount of EXP as levelling up would, however it doesn't increase your ECL and your levelling up is merely delayed a while - as Jude_H's table above demonstrates.

I subscribe to the latter. Others the former. To my knowledge there's never been a definitive statement by WotC one way or the other.

Lvl17 | 17000 | 17
Lvl18 | 18000 | 18
Lvl19 | 19000 | 19
Lvl20 | 20000 | 20
B#= Bloodline levels
Lvl# = Class levels

Except that actually makes it strong not weak. If you are getting the value of having a level AND you get to count your level as equal to your class levels for XP purposes then you get ahead of the XP curve for a while since you will be getting more XP than everybody else. After a while you would get back to even but then you have blood line bonuses making you get ahead again.

The common reading back in the day was that each bloodline level was an actual level with no hit die. This is why most people think they are weak outside of a few niche builds (such as hellfire warlocks).

It does seem that most people around here like the reading that makes them more powerful though. You will just have to ask your DM becuase you are not going to get a consensus here.

This is the interpretation that I use, as it is the only one that has their abilities table make sense pre-epic.

Actually, an interesting note would be this thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=208703). It's a rather comprehensive, and well written, guide to Bloodlines, and it probably has just about everything you're looking for.

Beat me to it. But yeah, that should explain things pretty well.

you get to count your level as equal to your class levels for XP purposes then you get ahead of the XP curve for a while since you will be getting more XP than everybody elseEvery DM worth his salt limits XP. Otherwise everyone would be a crafter. Most DMs are aware that xp should not be a river. Therefore your share of the xp spent on bloodlines is xp that the party puts their share towards leveling, putting you behind them b

What levels am l taking feats?

As far as I recall the easy way of doing it is every three HD. Less questions that way.

No because bloodline levels don't give you hit dice hence why I went for that term.
