Today, you can finally begin your Pokemon journey. At Professor Elm's lab, you are given your starter Pokemon, and a Pokedex. The old man smiles broadly.
Professor Elm: It's been a while since trainers have actually come to my lab to begin their Pokemon journey. Many have had their Starter Pokemon and Pokedex delivered to their home town. It's good to see trainers who wish to start traditionally, especially in these times. Wild Pokemon seem to have started combining their efforts to hurt trainers.

The last word isn't even out of his mouth before there is a loud BANG, and the doors to the lab burst open. A Machop stands in the doorway. It looks very angry, and is flanked by a Psyduck and a Ralts. Neither of them look pleased either.

Professor Elm squeals and dives behind his desk, with intermittant prayers that you will save him.

Ralts's growl lowers both of your attack power (Pete, your Skitty is now attack power is now 5, Christy, your Eevee is now attack power 4), then Eevee's Tackle powers in to it. The force of the tackle knocks Ralts out cold. Skitty's Tail Whip affects Psyduck, as it lowers it's defense, while Machop Leers at Eevee. (Eevee's defense is now 5). Psyduck then uses Water Sport, lowering the effectiveness of ground type moves.

Eevee's Tackle takes Machop off it's feet, and just as it pulls itself back up, it sees 11kg of pink fury fly toward it. Skitty's tackle sends it straight out the doors of the lab, with a horrendous crunching sound.

Eevee and Skitty gain 90 EXP! Eevee and Skitty both reach level 4! Each Pokemon has three stat points to be spent! Skitty learned Foresight!

Machop is dead, no EXP awarded.

With the final Pokemon defeated, Professor Elm walks out from behind his desk. After a few minutes looking for a ladder, he retrives Psyduck from the wall, and scoops up the Ralts.

Professor Elm: I'll heal these Pokemon, and set them free on Route 29 when they have recovered. Thank you for saving me and my lab, even if you did have to kill a Pokemon to do it.

Christy, you manage to hear a noise, despite your fatigue. This noise however, goes unnoticed by Pete.

This tiny warning allows you to avoid the small two-brown coloured bird that attempts to Tackle you. Pete has no such luck. (15 damage to Pete, HP now 35)

A quick look around sees that there are four of these Pokemon around you.

The Pidgey intelligently divide themselves. One goes for Eevee, one for Skitty, one for Totodile, and the little bandit goes for Pete.

Vs Eevee:
Accuracy: 7
Damage: 2
Eevee manages to shake off the hit with no damage taken.

Accuracy:19 (CRIT)
Skitty, however, takes 40 damage, taking it down to -20 HP

Damage: 19
Totodile is dealt 18 damage from the Tackle, knocking it to 5 HP

Vs Pete:
Accuracy: 8
Damage: 8
And Pete's shin takes another 14 damage (5 HP remaining)

Eevee's counterattack, however, takes the leered-at Pidgey out of the fight.

Christy's shin now takes the damage, for 19 HP lost (down to 36)

Vs Totodile:

Totodile is hit for 8 damage in total (15 HP remaining)

Totodile's Scratch hits one of the Pidgey hard, and it looks badly beaten.
Pete's Slingshot pellet hits his own mini rival in the skull for minor damage. However, it looks quite surprised by the attack.

Totodile's Scratch cuts deep, and blood pours out of the wound of the now-unconscious Hoothoot. But somehow... it's still breathing.

Christy, Eevee excitedly climbs on to your shoulder, as Cyndaquil runs round you happily. Pidgey and Hoothoot barely give you a second glance, however.

It took until 12 noon to reach the pokemon centre. After waiting thirty minutes, two people walk up to you both, A woman and a man.

Mysterious Man: You're the guy that brought in that weak Hoothoot, huh? Why not just let it die like the worthless piece a meat it is?

Totodile's scratch slashes the pokemon, and KO's it.

Eevee's Tackle hits, and KO's Bronzor. Pidgey then... oh, that's interesting.
Pidgey attempts to escape from you.

Escape check: 3

Pidgey falls flat on his face in his attempt to run.

Totodile, Skitty, Pidgey, Cyndaquil, Eevee and Pidgey all gain 76 EXP! Both Pidgey's reached level 4! Eevee and Skitty reached level 5! Totodile reached level 6! Both Pidgey now have 96 EXP! Eevee now has 196 EXP! Skitty now has 166 EXP! Totodile now has 276 EXP! Cyndaquil now has 201 EXP!

The instant Bronzor goes down, the man recalls it and they make a break for it, pushing through the crowd to do you.

Congratulations!
Both Trainers can reach level 1 for winning their first rival battle.

Kira1402

It's roughly 2pm. Checking the Town Map, you find that heading East then North will head you towards Blackthorn City, and heading North from here will allow you to reach Dark Cave.

PeteBain
2011-07-29, 12:55 PM
"Right," I say, having had a bright idea, "this Pokedex thing is really beginning to annoy me. I mean, we're both seeing the same pokemon, at the same time and yet we BOTH need to log it in our pokedex. Yet all the data is out there on Prof. Elm's computer to relay back to us both. If we were to unify the frequencies and reset the signal, we could force the computer to resend all the data."

Regardless of whether Silver looks like he understands me or not, I continue.

"Basically, our pokedex could be linked. Every time I log a pokemon, you get the data and vice versa. It would even work for the catch data. That way if you catch a pokemon I don't particularly want, we both get the info in our pokedex. Sound good to you?"

Tweaking a few things in the back hasn't done anything discernibly good or bad to the Pokedex. Neither Pokedex has new information, but that could be caused by the fact neither of you are attempting to retrieve information by scanning a Pokemon.

"Cool. I'm a Ranger myself. Sort of fell into it though, not really planned. We were in here last night, tried to stop a couple of hooligans who started a battle right here in the centre. They escaped, but my efforts earned me this Stylus."

I point to my belt, then to Hoothoot.

"Then this Hoothoot that I wounded in the forest decided it wanted to be my companion."

I look at Shierak with a small amount of concern.

"I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about."

I also make a mental note not to make any sudden movements around him.

OmegaBane

"Can you see this not giving a Hoothoot? I've had it for the past ten minutes. I'm off to bed."

I recall all my pokemon and head to the trainer rooms.

There is a knocking on the door at 8am.
Nurse Joy: Hello? You asked to be woken when we had word on Ralts' condition?

arcmage91
2011-07-31, 06:40 PM
shakes head awake then rises

"how is it?"

The Pharmacist

OmegaBane

Kira1402
2011-07-31, 06:42 PM
Nurse Joy: It's healthy, at least. It's waiting downstairs. According to Chansey, it wants to give you one chance to catch it. Apparently, it feels it's the least it can do after you saved it.

The Pharmacist
2011-07-31, 06:44 PM
If he fails can I catch it? seems only fair? :)

arcmage91
2011-07-31, 06:47 PM

Kira1402
2011-07-31, 06:50 PM
Nurse Joy moves over slightly, and her Chansey nods at you and leads you outside. It stands at the side of the battle, to save either from death if needed.

PeteBain
2011-07-31, 06:50 PM
"You guys have fun with this, I'm going for a shower."

I leave the others to their battle and will reconvene when they're done.

Kira1402

Ralts nods at you, and growls at Hoothoot:
Accuracy: 12

Hoothoot's attack goes down even further.

Hoothoot looks away from you haughtily, Christy, and doesn't obey your command. Ralts growls again, lowering your attack even lower.

The Pharmacist

The Pharmacist
2011-07-31, 07:02 PM
I turn to nurse Joy

if Silver does not give a good battle to Ralts, may your chancy convey that I would be glad to battle with it and have it by my side in future battles if I win? :)

arcmage91
2011-07-31, 07:03 PM

Hoothoot seems to mull the idea over.
During this time, Ralts growls again.

Hoothoot decides to agree with your deal, and tackles Ralts. Very lightly.

Ralts again growls, though your attack cannot fall any lower.

Kira1402
2011-07-31, 07:14 PM
Hoothoot turns to you with a less than respectful look, and then barrels in to Ralts as fast as it can. Ralts pushes itself up with all it's might and growls again.
