What are some ways an illusionist can get rid of scribe scroll?

Combat Wizard -- Trade it for a bonus Fighter feat, like say, Improved Initiative.

UA/SRD has a few ways.

Eidetic Spellcaster (Dragon #354) trades out your familiar and Scribe Scroll to let you memorise spells inside your head rather than with a spellbook. Rather useful if you ever fear you may lose your spellbook (either in combat or capture) and you'd rather not lose your ability to cast spells.

Also, with Combat Wizard, you'll lose your bonus Wizard feats at levels 5, 10, 15, 20 in exchange for Fighter bonus feats, but you can still technically trade out those 'Fighter' feats for ACFs like Spontaneous Divination or Domain Granted Power - Magic Domain, and you'll probably PrC out after Level 5 anyway (or lower, if you decide on Master Specialist).

Possibly slightly less useful to an Illusionist, since they can pick up the Illusion Mastery ACF ('though they'll be out of luck if they want to cast non-illusion spells).

The specialist wizard variants have options to trade in stuff like familiars as well.

This is a great feature if you're anyone but an illusionist. You need to be able to trade your familiar in for Chains of Disbelief.

Chains of Disbelief is useless with no spellbook to cast your illusion spells with :smalltongue: It's a toss up, I think, and I would wager mostly dependent on the DM and campaign you're facing.

CoD is useful, I don't disagree; just providing options.

Illusion Mastery, done. Granted, you can only prepare Illusion spells when you lose your spellbook, but still.

Go shadowcraft mage. Now you don't need to prepare anything but illusion spells. Your illusions are more real than the real thing.

Mooks: AIEEE!!! IT BURNS!!!
Captain: You weak-minded fools!! Can't you see that the flames are mere illusions?! If only you had the strength of will to -- OH GODS IT BURNS HOTTER THAN THE REAL THING!!! AIEEE!!!

Fair enough

What are some ways an illusionist can get rid of scribe scroll?Don't forget the generic way of replacing any feat with any other feat you qualify for: Cast or pay someone to cast Embrace the Dark Chaos (FC1) followed by Shun the Dark Chaos (FC1). Costs 500 xp.

I'm not sure I understand... you're a wizard specializing in illusions, yes? Wizards get scribe scroll for free so you'd have it regardless. If you're talking about having your GM allow you to have a different free starting feat that's between you two and some of the choices already mentioned would depend on your character's history and how you were taught, etc.... If you're referring to if someone sees you reading from a scroll it would be giving it away that what's happening isn't real... then what about alternate versions of scrolls? In Complete Arcane (pg 138) they talk about if you make sure it meets the criteria for a scroll then you could use other things instead... like magic gemstones or incendiary powders or little origamis or some such. Things that would be single use, be used up (or emptied) in the casting, physically manipulated, etc...

Apologies if I misunderstood...

I'm pretty sure he was asking for ACF (Alternate Class Features) that can be gotten by trading out the Scribe Scroll wizard class feature.

My mistake. I haven't come across that in my game play so I'm not familiar with it. Oopski :)
